Shouvik Roy rises to top notfch marketing role at JioStar

MUMBAI: Shouvik Roy has landed the senior vice president’s job at JioStar, where he will head marketing and programming strategy and insights. The appointment marks a swift promotion for the executive, who spent nearly 13 years climbing the ranks at Disney Star.

Roy’s new role, which he assumed in November, puts him at the helm of marketing strategy for the merged entertainment giant. His last position at Disney Star saw him leading marketing for Star Plus, the company’s flagship entertainment channel, a role he held from January 2023 through to December this year.

The Mumbai-based executive’s career at Disney Star began in 2013 as an assistant marketing manager for Star Jalsha and Jalsha Movies in Kolkata. He steadily rose through senior manager and assistant vice president positions before being named director in April 2022.

Before his Disney Star stint, Roy spent nearly four years at Idea Cellular, where he led events and activations for Kolkata and West Bengal. Earlier roles included account management at Matrix Direct Communications and a brief spell in public relations at Nataraj Group.

Roy’s appointment comes as JioStar consolidates its position in India’s fiercely competitive entertainment market. With over 16 years in brand management under his belt, he inherits a portfolio that will test his mettle in programming strategy and consumer insights. The industry will be watching whether his Disney pedigree translates into JioStar gold.
