MUMBAI: National Geographic has lifted the curtain on its Best of the World 2026 list, showcasing 25 destinations that promise awe, adventure and meaningful travel in the year ahead. The annual selection, announced today, serves as a globe-trotting mood board for anyone dreaming of their next great escape.

Handpicked by the brand’s editors, travel writers and global partners, this year’s list encourages travellers to rethink how they explore. Instead of the usual hotspots, the guide spotlights places that spark connections with nature, culture and local communities. You will find everything from safaris in Rwanda’s Akagera National Park to museum trails in Pittsburgh, with journeys stretching from the Philippines to Finland and four stops across the United States.

Designed as inspiration rather than itinerary, the list caters to every kind of traveller. Families, food lovers, wildlife enthusiasts and thrill seekers will all find something to tempt them. The destinations stand out for their cultural milestones, rare experiences, dramatic landscapes and commitment to sustainable travel. Whether it is trekking the badlands or marvelling at Japan’s frosty “snow monsters” in the Zao mountains, the collection mixes the surprising with the spectacular.

National Geographic editor-in-chief Nathan Lump, said the goal was to spotlight places that feel fresh and unexpected. “We wanted to highlight destinations the algorithms are probably not serving you, like Khiva in Uzbekistan. At the same time, we included some compelling places that are easier to reach. Whatever kind of traveller you are, we hope these ideas help you reconnect with the joy of discovery.”

The full Best of the World 2026 package, complete with striking photography and immersive reporting, is now live at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld. Travellers can join the conversation online using the hashtag BestoftheWorld.
