MUMBAI: Colours has announced Seher Hone Ko Hai, a socially charged family drama centred on a mother’s fight to secure a future her daughter is being denied. The show, which premieres on 2 December at 10pm and airs Monday to Friday on Colours and JioHotstar, marks the return of Mahhi Vij and Parth Samthaan to prime-time fiction.

Set in Lucknow, the series follows Kausar, played by Mahhi Vij, who was pushed into marriage as a child and is determined not to let her daughter, Seher, meet the same fate. Seher, portrayed by Rishita Kothari, dreams of becoming a doctor. But her father, Parvez, played by Vaquar Shaikh, plans to marry her off into an influential family headed by Osmaan, played by Deepak Qazir. Mahid, Osmaan’s grandson, is played by Parth Samthaan, whose character is undergoing treatment from Dr Farid, played by Apurva Agnihotri.

The narrative hinges on Kausar’s attempt to stop Seher from being forced into marriage and to ensure she gets the education she wants. The series blends themes of agency, aspiration and generational trauma.

Parth Samthaan described Mahid as “a beautifully conflicted soul”, adding that the role is the most challenging of his career. Mahhi Vij said returning to fiction as Kausar “feels like coming home”, calling the character a tribute to mothers who push against rigid norms to create better futures for their children. Rishita Kothari said playing Seher was an honour, noting that the character represents “countless girls who dream with a silent fire”.

Seher Hone Ko Hai continues Colours’ tradition of programming anchored in social realities, aiming to spotlight the struggle for education and autonomy faced by many young women.
