Vidhi Singhania comes home with Thehraav in Mumbai
MUMBAI: In a fashion world racing from trend to trend, Vidhi Singhania is choosing to slow down. After a five-year absence from the city, the celebrated textile designer returns to Mumbai with Thehraav, a stand-alone exhibition that feels less like a showcase and more like a homecoming.
For Singhania, Mumbai is not just a pin on the map, it is where her creative story began. Thehraav, which translates to pause, reflects a journey spanning over three decades and a renewed commitment to what has always defined her work: Indian handloom, artisanal skill and quiet elegance.
At a time when speed often trumps substance, the exhibition champions mindful creation over mass production. Each piece is rooted in the rhythms of hand weaving, shaped by Indian artisans whose craft carries generations of patience, precision and pride. The focus is firmly on Made in India, where every textile tells a story rather than chases a moment.
The showcase brings together Singhania’s signature handwoven Kota and Banarasi sarees alongside contemporary yet timeless silhouettes. Visitors will find shirts, blouses, jackets, co-ord sets and a carefully curated wedding collection, all unified by a respect for tradition while speaking comfortably to modern wardrobes.
Though the designs reflect evolving sensibilities, they remain anchored in heritage, presenting handloom not as nostalgia, but as a living, breathing art form.
