TRAI connects the dots for a future-ready network
MUMBAI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is giving its rulebook a reality check as it opens public consultation on the “Review of Existing TRAI Regulations on Interconnection Matters.”
In a world where 5G, satellites, and seamless streaming are the new buzzwords, TRAI’s move aims to make sure old wires don’t trip up new technology. The regulator is reviewing nine existing regulations that shape how telecom operators connect, share networks, and charge one another, the invisible handshake that keeps your calls, messages and data flowing smoothly.
From the early days of dial-up to the dawn of 5G and beyond, these interconnection rules have powered India’s telecom story. But with networks now more digital than ever, TRAI says it’s time to plug into a framework that’s ready for the next generation of connectivity, from IP-based interconnections to satellite links orbiting above.
Stakeholders have until 8 December 2025 to send in their comments and 22 December 2025 for counter-comments. The consultation paper is available on www.trai.gov.in, and the regulator has assured that all voices, from tech giants to small operators, will be heard. Because when it comes to keeping India connected, TRAI clearly believes it’s good to talk.
