NEW DELHI: K Aravamudhan (Aroo, to his friends) has landed the executive vice president gig for legal and regulatory affairs at JioStar India, capping off nearly two decades of climbing through the ranks of India’s broadcasting heavyweights.

The appointment comes as little surprise. Aravamudhan has been a fixture in Star India’s legal and policy machinery since 2007, weathering ownership changes, regulatory storms and the seismic merger that created JioStar—the entity born from the union of Reliance’s Viacom18 and Star India.

Before nabbing the executive vice president title, Aravamudhan served as head of public policy at both Star India and Viacom18, a dual role that positioned him perfectly for the merged entity’s top legal slot. His CV reads like a roadmap of India’s media consolidation: stints as executive director of government relations at Walt Disney Company India, senior vice president at Star TV Network, and various legal and regulatory roles stretching back to 2007.

“Looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities this position will bring,” Aravamudhan said, keeping it characteristically diplomatic.

He’s spent 18 years mastering the art of regulatory approvals, government relations and compliance in one of the world’s most complex media markets. Now he’s doing it for India’s biggest broadcaster.
After nearly two decades of keeping Star India on the right side of the rulebook, Aravamudhan is finally writing his own.
