    Mondelez elevates Nikhil Nicholas to global brand director of Cadbury Dairy Milk

    ZURICH: Mondelez International has promoted Nikhil Nicholas to global brand director of Cadbury Dairy Milk, placing him in charge of one of the confectionery giant’s most prized assets. He will be based in Zurich.

    Nicholas, who has spent more than 16 years at Mondelez, was most recently global marketing manager for Cadbury. His career has taken him across Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur and Zurich, spanning sales, innovation and category leadership. He has been closely associated with Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk and chocolate innovation in Asia-Pacific, as well as leading marketing for South East Asia.

    Starting out in customer development and sales roles in India, he steadily climbed through the ranks, moving into brand management in 2013. By 2019, he was senior marketing manager for equity and innovation in South East Asia, before taking on the region’s chocolate marketing lead. In 2023, he shifted to Zurich to handle global duties.

    The promotion cements his role as the custodian of a brand that has defined affordable indulgence for generations and remains central to Mondelez’s global chocolate portfolio.

    Air India expands Lufthansa partnership to spread its wings across Europe

    MUMBAI: Air India is soaring to new heights in its partnership with the Lufthansa Group, expanding its codeshare network to offer seamless connectivity between India and Europe. The enhanced deal, which now includes Austrian Airlines, adds close to 60 new codeshare routes, bringing the total to nearly 100 flights across 12 Indian and 26 European cities.

    For Indian travellers, this means greater access to 26 European destinations and three key American cities beyond Air India’s hubs in Frankfurt, Vienna, and Zurich. Passengers can now book Air India-coded flights on Lufthansa, Swiss, and Austrian Airlines, making travel to cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Munich, and Stockholm smoother than ever.

    On the flip side, Lufthansa Group customers can now connect to 15 Indian destinations with Air India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Kolkata, and Pune. The partnership also extends to Air India’s international routes to Kathmandu, Melbourne, and Sydney from Delhi and Mumbai.

    Air India chief commercial officer Nipun Aggarwal stated, “Our goal is to enable our customers to travel seamlessly across the world via Air India and its partner airlines. Expanding our partnership with Lufthansa Group strengthens this mission and elevates the travel experience for our passengers.”

    Lufthansa Group chief commercial officer Dieter Vranckx said, “We are thrilled to enhance our cooperation with Air India. This partnership will offer greater travel flexibility and reinforce Lufthansa Group’s commitment to the Indian market.”

    As both airlines are part of Star Alliance, frequent flyers can continue to earn and redeem miles, while elite members enjoy priority services, additional baggage allowances, and access to premium lounges.

    Subject to regulatory approvals, the expanded codeshare flights will soon be available for booking, promising a smoother and more connected travel experience for passengers across India and Europe.

    Pan Nalin’s ‘Angry Indian Goddesses’ at Rome Film Festival

    MUMBAI: The cast and crew of Indian director Pan Nalin’s film Angry Indian Goddesses is on a roll. After winning many a hearts across the globe, the movie is now officially the only Indian movie selected at the Rome Film Festival, which will be held from 16 to 23 October.

     

    Overall, 37 films from 24 countries are playing in the Rome Film Festival this year, out of which Angry Indian Goddesses will be the only Indian movie. Last year Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider had bagged the People’s Choice Award in the world category at the Rome Film Festival.

     

    A story of seven girls at a wild bachelorette party made with Goa as its backdrop, the film was honoured the Grolsch People’s Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival and was screened at the 35th Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax. It will be screened at the 11th edition of the Zurich Film Festival (ZFF).

    A busy year for newspapers around the world

    NEW DELHI: Though the entire world is being overtaken by a convergence wave riding on the wings of digital technology, those in the newspaper industry are trying their best to keep the print medium alive through various methods including tackling newer subjects or blending newer technologies.

    The World Association of Newspapers has slated a large number of events this year to keep alive the spirit of reading, which continues to grow despite the growth of television and the Internet.
    A World Newspaper Advertising Conference and Expo is being held on February 22 and 23 in Zurich (Switzerland) to examine what newspapers are doing to increase advertising revenues and market share. The meet is being hosted by Swiss Press.

    Early next month, there is a meet on ‘Digital Winners – Mobile Strategies for Newspapers’ in Oslo (Norway). Hosted by Telenor Broadcast and to be held on March 8 and 9, the meet will focus on how newspapers can follow the strategic lessons from mobile, Television and internet to make money from digital media. The conference will highlight what mobile solutions are available and why these have to be included in multi-media strategies. Subjects to be covered include ‘Mobile marketing; experiences and success stories’, ‘The digital user revolution’, and ‘Disruptive changes in the media industry’, ‘Adopting to the new business environment’.

    The Seventh World Young Reader Conference and Expo from March 25 to 28 in Washington will explore the full range of new strategies and tactics newspapers for reaching young readers who are accustomed to getting their news and information through non-traditional means. Hosted by the Newspaper Association of America Foundation, the meet will feature speakers from around the world. Studies will include those of cases of how newspapers learned to think young throughout the organisation without alienating the core readership both in print and via other multi-media channels, ‘Connecting a social network generation to our paper: how we did it’, ‘Myspace.com in print: how we did it’, and ‘Newspapers in Education (NIE) that works: How to get started or get even better in this core strategy for anyone who still wants to be doing print in 15 years’.

    The Sixtieth World Newspaper Congress, the 14th World Editors Forum, and Info Services Expo 2007, are being held in Cape Town from June 3 to 6. Hosted by the Newspaper Association of South Africa, the meet will discuss “Quality Journalism in the Digital Age” in nine sessions and eleven social events. Subjects include ‘The multi-newspaper newsroom is born!’ talking of the first newspapers that manage merged newsrooms, ‘Integrated newsrooms: what print does best and what online does best’ with examples of working mergers between print and online newsrooms, ‘Sharing best practices: five examples of newspaper cooperation’ where five prominent editors from around the world will present new ways of cooperative work among newsrooms and ‘Reuters Master Class on Web 2.0: is user generated content bringing anything new to news?’ by Reuters which is a partner of the 2007 Forum.

    Other events include the Third Middle East Publishing Conference is to be held on April 17 and 18 in Dubai on “The Middle East – The New Newspaper Revolution” to explore the rapid change occurring to newspapers in the region and around the world, and the World Digital Publishing Conference and Expo and World Editor and Marketeer Conference & Expo will be held from October 17 to 19 in Amsterdam (The Netherlands).

    MUMBAI: News broadcaster CNN will air CNN Future Summit: World in Motion on 23 November. The event will be held at Singapore to discuss the future of travel on earth and beyond. Lengendary astronaut Dr Buzz Aldrin, the world’s first female space tourist Anousheh Ansari, Professor Lion Guzzella, Chair of Thermotronics at Zurich’s ETH and designer of the world’s most fuel efficient vehicle and Ian Pearson, a futurologist at the UK’s British Telecom, complete the distinguished panel.

    Aldrin was the second man on the moon. The panel will discuss on how our lives are set to be dramatically changed by stunning advancements in the world of travel. CNN anchor Richard Quest and his guests explore how close we are to the reality of a family vacation in space, in addition to looking at the possible benefits of a driverless car, hypersonic air travel and other areas which indicate that science fiction is rapidly becoming science fact.
