Zepto ties the knot with Britannia for a shaadi that wasn’t real

MUMBAI: Who says you need a bride and groom to have a big fat Indian wedding? Zepto just proved otherwise with its Great Indian Fake Shaadi, a no-nuptials bash that turned Chattarpur’s Ira Luxe into the wildest wedding that never was. In partnership with Britannia, the event saw 300 plus guests, top creators and brand partners show up for a night where nothing was real, but everything was reel.

Britannia, the title sponsor, quite literally led the baraat kicking off the evening with the Britannia Pure Magic Baraat and a flash mob to Bingo!’s viral Tedhe Medhe Bhojpuri anthem. The result? A spectacle that felt like a cross between a shaadi, a music video, and a meme come to life.

Shaadi.com joined the fun with a digital roast by founder Anupam Mittal, taking a hilariously self-aware dig at India’s dating scene, while Manforce Epic Condoms added some cheeky sparkle with a vibrating bed installation that had guests blushing and grinning in equal measure.

The celebration was co-powered by a who’s who of brands Nivea, Haldiram’s, Bingo Tedhe Medhe, Manforce Epic Condoms, Shaadi.com, Close-Up, ITC Fabelle, and Minimalist making it less of a wedding and more of a brand baaraat. Rebound – Detox Shot, Hershey’s, Sugar, and Wildstone joined in as supporting partners, ensuring the party stayed powered through the night.

The creative chaos was choreographed by Meragi, a real wedding planning startup that turned Zepto’s tongue-in-cheek concept into a content goldmine. With sangeet performances, spoof rituals, and brand-led installations, the venue became a playground for creators with over 100 influencers flooding social feeds in real time.

“The fake shaadi trend isn’t just a meme anymore, it’s a cultural moment,” said Zepto chief brand officer Chandan Mendiratta. “We wanted to kick off the wedding season by owning that moment and turning it into something bigger. The fake shaadi reflects how Gen Z celebrates with irony, energy and endless content.”

For Britannia general manager for marketing Siddharth Gupta the evening was a perfect fit for their indulgent new range. “The Great Indian Fake Shaadi was such a fun and unexpected way to start the wedding season. It was full of laughter, energy, and indulgence, much like Britannia Pure Magic. Guests experienced our new choco creations that turn every bite into an irresistible delight.”

At the end of the night, there were no pheras, no tears, and definitely no bidaai but there was plenty of laughter, content and chaos. Zepto’s Fake Shaadi wasn’t just a stunt; it was a sly mirror to how India’s wedding season has gone from ceremonial to cinematic. Because who needs “I do” when you’ve got “I post”?

  • Credit where it’s due as festive shoppers swipe big this Diwali

Credit where it’s due as festive shoppers swipe big this Diwali

MUMBAI: Looks like this Diwali, Indians didn’t just light up their homes, they swiped their way to sparkle too. A new survey by Paisabazaar reveals that over 42 per cent of credit card users spent upwards of Rs 50,000 on festive shopping this year, signalling that big-ticket buying is firmly back in fashion.

The festive cheer wasn’t limited to diyas and discounts, it spread right across credit limits. About 22 per cent of respondents spent between Rs 50,000 and Rs 1 lakh, while one in five splurged over Rs 1 lakh on their cards during Diwali. The survey, which covered over 2,300 users, paints a clear picture of India’s growing comfort with credit as a strategic spending tool.

When it came to what they bought, home appliances topped the wishlist at 25 per cent, followed by mobiles, gadgets and accessories at 23 per cent, and apparel at 22 per cent. Furniture and décor made up 18 per cent of spends, while gold and jewellery accounted for 12 per cent proof that both sparkle and substance drove shopping choices this season.

But it wasn’t all impulse. The study revealed that 91 per cent of shoppers planned their purchases around card-specific offers and festive deals. Less than 10 per cent relied solely on their card’s standard cashback or reward structure. Clearly, today’s consumers are not just shopping, they’re strategising.

“Consumers are using credit cards more intelligently, timing their high-value purchases with festive offers and card-linked deals,” said Paisabazaar CEO Santosh Agarwal. “This growing financial awareness shows how value and convenience are driving credit card use.”

The benefits are paying off too. Nearly 71 per cent of respondents owned shopping-specific credit cards that offered cashback or festive rewards, while 15 per cent received seasonal deals even without such cards. For many, cashback remained the biggest draw chosen by 20 per cent of users followed closely by co-branded offers (19 per cent) and accelerated reward points (18 per cent).

Among those opting for EMIs, No-Cost EMI emerged as the clear winner, attracting 56 per cent of users, while 29 per cent chose EMIs to unlock extra discounts and 10 per cent used them simply to spread payments more comfortably.

Interestingly, shoppers were equally at home online and offline 48 per cent said they preferred a mix of both. The hunt for better deals drove most of them to e-commerce giants, with 83 per cent claiming they found the best discounts on platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. Together, the two dominated with a 43 per cent preference rate, followed by Myntra (15 per cent), Meesho (10 per cent), and other platforms such as Ajio, Nykaa, Zepto and Tata Cliq accounting for 32 per cent collectively.

Paisabazaar, head of credit cards Rohit Chhibbar summed it up aptly: “This festive season marked the rise of the value-savvy shopper, one who plans, compares, and capitalises on every offer. Cashback, rewards, and no-cost EMIs have made credit cards indispensable for festive spending.”

In short, this Diwali, shoppers didn’t just chase lights, they chased the right swipes.

  • Complan hits the right note with Zepto through iconic jingle comeback

Complan hits the right note with Zepto through iconic jingle comeback

MUMBAI: Who knew adding a nutrition drink to your online cart could spark a singalong? Zydus Wellness has brought back the legendary ‘I am a Complan Boy / Complan Girl’ jingle, turning it into a sonic surprise for Zepto users. Now, every time shoppers add Complan to their basket, they’re greeted with the nostalgic audio cue, blending childhood memory with modern-day quick commerce.

But this isn’t just a sentimental throwback. In today’s scroll-fast, tap-quick economy, brands have barely seconds to grab attention. By weaving its jingle into the very moment of purchase, Complan is making sure it’s not just another product on a crowded app shelf,  it’s a tune you can’t shake off.

Zydus Wellness CEO & w holetime director Tarun Arora explained: “As digital habits evolve, brands must embed themselves in more intuitive ways. This is not just about reviving a jingle, but restoring identity and emotional connection in a transactional space. Complan has always stood for care and trust now we’re carrying that into Q-commerce with meaning that lasts beyond the tap.”

Globally, sonic branding has found success among digital-first brands, but Complan is among the first legacy nutritional drink powders in India to embed an audio cue directly into Q-commerce platforms. The strategy strengthens recall in environments where traditional ads are invisible.

Zepto chief brand and cultural officer Chandan Mendiratta called it a natural fit: “Every Complan order now becomes a moment of recognition, not just convenience. By embedding an iconic sonic signature, we’ve added a sensory layer to digital shopping making nourishment memorable.”

Early signals suggest the experiment is striking the right chord. In a retail space dominated by speed and efficiency, Complan’s nostalgic notes could well prove its most powerful differentiator, ensuring the brand owns not just the shelf, but the soundtrack of shopping.

  • Google’s quick move to boost brand sales with Commerce Media Suite

Google’s quick move to boost brand sales with Commerce Media Suite

MUMBAI: When it comes to India’s shopping habits, “add to cart” is now often followed by “arrives in 10 minutes” and Google is making sure brands don’t miss the ride. The tech giant has launched its Commerce Media Suite, an AI-powered solution designed to help brands and merchants tap into the surging quick commerce and e-commerce markets. The suite works through Google Ads, letting advertisers reach high-intent shoppers across Search, Shopping, Youtube, Display, Discover, and Gmail, directing them straight to product listings on marketplaces like Blinkit, Swiggy, Zepto, and Myntra.

The timing is no accident with the festive season around the corner, competition for eyeballs (and wallets) is fierce. “Today, consumers demand immediacy and convenience, clearly demonstrated by the rise of quick commerce,” said Google India director for omni-channel businesses Bhaskar Ramesh. “Commerce Media Suite opens fresh pathways for discovery across Google and Youtube, driving stronger results for brands during peak demand seasons.”

Early adopters are already seeing gains worth bragging about. ITC Aashirvaad Select clocked a 4x return on ad spend on Blinkit, while Renee Cosmetics reported an 11.5 per cent bump in sales and a 48 per cent drop in cost per order.

For Blinkit, the solution is a match made in delivery heaven. “Google’s Commerce Media Suite offers brands a significant opportunity to cut through the noise and connect with the modern consumer,” said Blinkit director of ad monetisation and pricing Anish Acharya calling it a “game-changer” ahead of the festive rush.

Beyond just reach, brands get Google AI-driven performance, first-party marketplace data, product-level measurement, and self-service transparency effectively marrying campaign spend to actual sales impact.

Or as Renee Cosmetics head of eCommerce Jitendra Rawal put it: “It’s allowed us to efficiently connect with customers looking for our products and significantly drive incremental sales.”

With India’s quick commerce sector in overdrive, Google’s latest play might just help brands click with customers in more ways than one.

  • Zepto zips into 10-minute medicine service

Zepto zips into 10-minute medicine service

MUMBAI: Zepto is betting that Indians want their paracetamol as fast as their groceries. On 7 August Aadit Palicha, chief executive of the quick-commerce firm, announced the launch of Zepto Pharmacy on LinkedIn.
The service promises to deliver common medicines—from headache tablets like Saridon to antibiotics—within 10 minutes.

But the rollout is cautious. The pharmacy service is live only in select areas of Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR and Hyderabad. Palicha said his team has spent 12 months perfecting “the customer experience, supply chain, and compliance at a small scale” before this limited launch.

“Our objective is to keep operational standards extremely high and not scale too rapidly given the complexity of this category,” he explained. The measured approach reflects the regulatory hurdles and safety concerns inherent in medicine delivery—a stark contrast to Zepto’s typically aggressive expansion in groceries.

If executed well, Palicha believes the service could “seriously improve the lives of millions of customers across the country and help make important medicines easier to access when we need them the most.”

The move marks Zepto’s latest attempt to diversify beyond groceries, where it competes fiercely with rivals like Blinkit and Instamart. Whether Indians will embrace ten-minute medicine delivery with the same enthusiasm they have shown for rapid grocery runs remains to be seen.

The latest feature, ‘Consumer Persona’, promises to make your data talk and it’s fluent in insights, psychographics, and pin code-level purchase patterns.

Think of it as a personal shopper for brands only smarter, faster, and built with data science. Whether it’s figuring out why someone didn’t add that chocolate bar to cart, when they’ll most likely return for dog food, or how diet preferences shift across Delhi vs. Dadar, Zepto’s persona engine has the answers.

“From multi-agency guesswork to real-time decision-making, this changes the game,” said Zepto chief business officer Devender Meel. “Brands can now engage with AI-powered personas, test messaging live, and optimise their campaigns in the moment.”

    Zepto ATOM’s suite now includes:

    ●    Chat with Synthesised Personas: Marketers can interact with AI avatars that mimic real customers to pressure-test ideas and pricing.

    ●    Hyperlocal Campaign Launcher: Roll out ads based on city-level psychographics or cart behaviour in minutes.

More than 100 brands, including Tata Consumer Products, Mars, Henkel, The Whole Truth, Sid’s Farm, and Bagrry’s, are already aboard. Since launch in May 2025, Zepto ATOM has logged 40,000 plus usage hours, with over 1,500 brands participating in trial phases.

“Zepto GPT and pin code-level Geo insights have helped us pivot strategies at lightning speed,” said Shriram from Tata Consumer Products. Mensa Brands’ Ananth Narayan added, “It’s like having a crystal ball for e-commerce, but better because it’s data.”

As the quick commerce race heats up, Zepto’s making sure brands don’t just keep up, they get ahead, one consumer insight at a time.

  • Libas and Zepto’s billboard chemistry is turning heads in Mumbai

Libas and Zepto’s billboard chemistry is turning heads in Mumbai

MUMBAI: The streets of Mumbai are heating up, and it is not because of the weather. It’s the billboards in the city turning heads, garnering attention, and sparking conversations. Libas, India’s leading ultra-fast fashion brand, and Zepto, the 10-minute delivery app, have unleashed a playful OOH (Out-Of-Home) campaign that’s got everyone doing double-takes. Blending fashion-forward wit with lightning-fast delivery, the OOH campaign reflects the spirit of spontaneity that defines the brands.

Strategically placed in high-footfall locations like Prabhadevi, these billboards are doing more than just advertising; they’re entertaining passersby. The campaign perfectly captures the mood of today’s digital generation: quick, bold, meme-worthy.

Libas head of marketing, Nisha Khatri said, “We wanted to have a little fun with our audience while highlighting how seamless shopping from Libas has become. Zepto’s strong logistics capabilities will help us bring our customers closer, as we strengthen our omnichannel presence. With this association, we are empowering modern Indian women with instant access to our products. And what better way to tell that story than by entertaining the entertainment capital with some good-humoured banter on billboards?

The banter-packed campaign isn’t just fun. It is part of a larger push by Libas to expand its omnichannel presence and engage with a younger, digital-savvy audience. After all, fashion doesn’t wait, and now, neither do Libas shoppers.
