Imagine TV fails to boost ratings sans Swayamvar

MUMBAI: For the second consecutive week, Imagine TV has proved that its fortunes are heavily dependent on the Swayamvar franchise.

The channel, which had crossed the 100 GRP (gross rating point) mark two weeks back with the culmination of Swayamvar season 3, Ratan ka Rishta, slumped to 65 GRPs in the immediate week after that.

Even in the week ended 23 July, the channel remained stagnant with 66 GRPs under its kitty.

After the first and second season of the Swayamvar series, Imagine TV had also seen a drastic fall in ratings.

Meanwhile, for the week ended 23 July the status quo has been maintained among the Hindi general entertainment channels. Star Plus continues to lead with 316 GRPs (last week 320) followed by Colors with 267 GRPs (last week 271), according to Tam data for the Hindi speaking markets.

Zee TV, which was witnessing a fall over the last few weeks, was the top gainer in the week. The channel saw a 35 GRP jump in the week to close with 220 GRP (from 185). Sony Entertainment Television, however, is still in pursuit and ended the week with 193 GRPs (from 182 in the last week).

Sab, meanwhile, fell to 124 GRPs from 133 in the preceding week while Star One and Sahara One were at 36 and 33 GRPs respectively.

Sony narrows gap with Zee TV

MUMBAI: Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV continue to maintain their top 3 positions among the Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs). But the channel that keeps coming close to Zee TV is Sony Entertainment Television.

Sony is just three GRPs (gross rating points) away from Zee TV. Losing rating points for the third straight week, Zee TV clocked 185 GRPs for the week ended 16 July, down from 193, while Sony mopped up 182 GRPs (last week 184).

Star Plus and Colors have strengthened their positions with 11 and 19 GRPs (gross rating points) respectively, according to TAM data for the week ended 16 July (C&S, HSM, 4+).

Colors added most GRPs during the week on the back of Balika Vadhu (5.55 TVR) and Uttaran (5 TVR), ending with 271 GRPs (last week 252). Balika Vadhu regained its position as the No. 1 show in the GEC chart.

Star Plus, on the other hand, pocketed 320 GRPs. Channel‘s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai became second best show during the week, garnering 5.26 TVR.

Meanwhile, Imagine TV, which was hovering above 100 GRPs since two weeks on the back of the season four of its flagship reality show Swayamvar – Ratan Ka Rishta, has seen a mighty fall. Imagine TV lost 39 GRPs to end the week with 65 (last week 104).

Meanwhile, Sab remained steady with 133 GRPs (last week 131).

Star One and Sahara One were at 37 GRPs (last week 36) and 31 GRPs (last week 30) respectively.

  • Swayamvar 3 ends on a high with 5.1 TVR

Swayamvar 3 ends on a high with 5.1 TVR

MUMBAI: Imagine TV‘s flagship reality series, Swayamvar, has not lost its charm yet. Even if the third season of the show, Ratan ka Rishta, could not match Rakhi Sawant‘s oomph factor or Rahul Mahajan‘s on-screen marriage, it did fairly well and lifted the channel to over 100 GRPs (gross rating points).

In fact, the show even did better than Imagine TV‘s high budget Zor Ka Zhataka – Total Wipeout, where the channel had invested in Shah Rukh Khan to get him as host.

The three-hour finale of Ratan Ka Rishta on 3 July got a TVR of 5.1, according to Tam data. Even the two-hour Sangeet ceremony episode on 2 July had managed to clock a TVR of 2.8. The ‘Mehendi‘ episode on 1 July got a TVR of 2.3.

Though Ratan Rajput‘s wedding managed to match the performance of Rahul Mahajan‘s finale, it couldn‘t match up to Rakhi‘s Swayamvar. Rakhi‘s finale (Faisale Ki Raat) had touched a whopping 8.4 TVR, that too when the bombshell had not married on the screen.

Imagine TV, however, could not change its position in the GEC pecking order and remained behind Sab with 104 GRPs. In the week before, the channel had sprung up to 107 GRPs.

Meanwhile, the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre has seen a marginal dip in the overall GRPs (gross rating points) during the week ended 9 July. However, the order of the GECs has remained unchanged.

As per TAM data for week 28 (C&S 4+, HSM), Sony Entertainment Television (Set) was the only Hindi GEC which gained during the week. On the back of its fiction show Bade Acche Lagte Hain, the channel added 11 GRPs and closed with 184 GRPs under its kitty as compared to 173 GRPs in the prior week. The show reached a peak TVR of 3.8. However, it still remained at No. 4, below Zee TV.

Zee TV, which recently donned a new look, has lost 12 GRPs in the week. However, it maintained its fourth position in the GEC chart and closed with 205 GRPs. In the previous week, the channel had shed 11 GRPs.

Overall, the GEC segment has shrunk 26 GRPs in the week. For the week ended 2 July, the total GRPs of the Hindi GEC genre stood at 1309 compared to 1283 in the week under review.

Meanwhile, genre leader Star Plus and No. 2 Colors maintained their positions, even though their GRPs dipped marginally. Star Plus closed the week with 309 GRPs (from 311) and Colors with 252 GRPs (253 GRPs in the last week).

Sab remained at its place with 131 GRPs (from 134 last week). Meanwhile, Star One and Sahara One pocketed 36 and 30 GRPs respectively.

Colors gains to widen gap with Zee TV

MUMBAI: Colors, which had dropped ratings to stand dangerously close to Zee TV, has now widened the gap as it gained 33 GRPs (gross rating points) in the week ended 25 June.

Colors ended at 263 GRPs, up from 230 GRPs in the trailing week, while Zee TV maintained its status quo with 228 GRPs.

Star Plus continues to stay ahead, adding eight GRPs to end the week with 292 GRPs, according to TAM data (C&S, 4+, HSM).

Sony Entertainment Television, on the other hand, shed 11 GRPs to close the week ended 25 June with 150 GRPs. Sab maintained its position with a score of 137 GRPs (last week 138).

Imagine TV clocked 81 GRPs (last week 89), while Star One and Sahara One were at 35 GRPs and 29 GRPs respectively.

Among the top shows on the GECs, Pavitra Rishta (Zee TV) stayed ahead with 5.4 TVR, followed by Colors’ Balika Vadhu (4.8 TVR), Star Plus’ Saathiya (4.43 TVR), Zee TV’s Ram Milayi Jodi (4.4 TVR) and Star Plus’ Pratigya (4.35 TVR), according to Tam data.

Jethalal most favourite character on Hindi GECs

MUMBAI: Jethalal, the lead character of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has become the most favourite fiction character.

As per the seventh edition of Ormax Media’s Characters India Loves (CIL), Jethalal, played by Gujarati actor Dilip Joshi, is the first male character to top the charts since the study’s inception in August 2009.

Jethalal’s share has seen a consistent growth from 1.5 per cent in the first track to 9.8 per cent in the seventh track.

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is the top rated show of Hindi general entertainment channel Sab.

Ormax Media predicts 2.6 TVR debut for Sasural Simar Ka

MUMBAI: Colors’ latest fiction show Sasural Simar Ka, which is launching tonight at 7.30 pm band, will open with an average TVR of 2.6 in the debut week, predicts Ormax Media.

The prediction is based on the media research and consulting firm’s awareness tracking tool Showbuzz. Ormax Media said that depending on the content quality, the TVR can be 10-15 per cent on either side.

The show has replaced Rishton Se Badi Pratha, which moves to the 7 pm slot. It will be a 62 per cent jump for Colors as Pratha was averaging 1.6 TVR on the same slot.

The show will however face competition in its slot from Star Plus’ Sasural Genda Phool (3.5 TVR) and Zee TV’s Chhoti Bahu (2.2 TVR).

Showbuzz tracks awareness of new programs across six markets. Data over the last two years has been used to create a predictive model for fiction shows. The model predicts the opening week reach of the launches, which can then be used to arrive at indicative TVR, assuming a certain level of content. Ormax Media said.

The model takes into account the marketing buzz created by the show, the performance of the slot, competitive scenario, overall channel performance, audience flow from one show to the other and the category of the program (fiction/ non-fiction).

The company claims that error margins have been less than 15 per cent in most predictions done using the model so far.
