Zee TV flies high with Zee Rishte Awards

MUMBAI: Zee TV, the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from the Zee Entertainment Enterprises (Zeel) stable, emerged as the biggest gainer of the week ended 24 December with 208 GRPs (gross rating points) in its kitty. However, it did not help the channel to better its position among the Hindi GEC ladder.

As per TAM data for the week 52 of 2011 (18-24 December), Zee TV added 53 GRPs to its previous week‘s tally of 155. The jump can be attributed to the telecast of Zee Rishte Awards 2011 on Sunday that clocked an average TVR of 4.71 over a period of three-and-a-half hour. Meanwhile its flagship dance reality show Dance India Dance 3 also opened with a 3.7 TVR, helping the channel up its ante.

Meanwhile, the leading GEC Star Plus too showed an improvement in performance and clocked 344 GRPs (last week 330). Channel‘s five shows- Saathiya Saath Nibhana (6.53 TVR), Diya Aur Bati Hum (5.99 TVR), Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (4.45 TVR), Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai (4.16 TVR), Is Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (3.95 TVR) continue to be there in top 10 list while it adds on Sasural Genda Phool too (4.05 TVR).

Set shed 11 GRPs and recorded 235 GRPs (last week 246). Its two shows that were in top 10 last week- Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Comedy Circus Ka Naya Daur saw a dip in viewership.

Incidentally, Life OK has opened to double of what Star One had been averaging week-on-week. In the week 51, when Star India pulled the plug on Star One, the channel had clocked 44 GRPs.

Interestingly, the last big launch, Colors, had opened with total GRPs of 81, when it was launched in July 2008. Other Hindi GECs like Imagine TV (then NDTV Imagine) had debuted with 55 GRPs in its first week of launch (20-26 January, 2008); 9X recorded a GRP of 21 when launched while Zee Next crawled with a 6 GRP in its opening week.

The channel got a push in its ratings with upfront shows like Rajeev Khandelwal hosted Sach Ka Saamna, UTV Television produced Saubhagyavati Bhava (highest average rating), Mahadev and Meri Maa.

Life OK lags behind market leader big brother Star Plus, Sony Entertainment Television, Colors, Zee TV and Sab.

Media observers say that the channel has pumped in big monies on distribution and promotion of the channel and the daily programming strategy is something new. If the content clicks with the audience, the channel may see further jump in ratings.

Zee TV marketing head Akash Chawla said, “This year we are extremely high on new media. Also, a major focus will be on BTL activities. This is a holiday season and we know majority of people are going to be out, so we intend to tap them through on-ground activities.”

MUMBAI: Zee TV, the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) from the Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel) stable, has seen a 32 GRPs (gross rating points) rise in the week ended 12 November, as its new 8 pm fiction property, Hitler Didi, got good eyeballs.

Star Plus, which maintained its numero uno position, clocked 310 GRPs (last week 335). The 25 GRPs loss can be attributed to fall in the overall ratings of its fiction shows.

Set was the biggest loser in the week, which saw a 27 GRPs fall. However, it was because in the previous week the channel had aired KBC 5 episode in which a common man had won the grand prize of Rs 50 million. The two episodes had clocked 7.1 and 8 TVR respectively.

Ormax predicts 60% slot growth for Zee with ‘Hitler Didi’

MUMBAI: Zee TV‘s latest fiction show, Hitler Didi, may have a first-week average TVR of 1.6 at the 8 pm slot.

The predicted opening is a 60 per cent growth on the current rating of 1 TVR for ‘Shobha Somnath Ki‘.

The predictions are according to Ormax Media‘s predictive model based on their awareness tracking tool Showbuzz. The media consulting and research firm said that the actual TVR may vary by up to 15 per cent, depending on the actual content of the programme.

As per Ormax, the show has scored 15 per cent on Unaided Awareness and 84 per cent on Total Awareness on Showbuzz amongst female audiences, in the week before its launch. This is the best performance for a Zee TV fiction show on Showbuzz since the last two years. In November 2009, ‘Yahan Main Ghar-Ghar Kheli‘ had scored 17 per cent and 78 per cent respectively one week before its launch.

Showbuzz tracks awareness of new programmes across six markets. Data over the last two years has been used to create a predictive model for fiction shows. The model predicts the opening week reach of the launches, which can then be used to arrive at indicative TVR, assuming a certain level of content.

The model takes into account the marketing buzz created by the show, the performance of the slot, competitive scenario, overall channel performance, audience flow from one show to the other and the category of the programme.

As per TAM data for the week ended 8 October (HSM, C&S 4+), Colors added 50 GRPs to its last week‘s tally to collect 255 GRPs. For the Viacom18 GEC, the strategy of shifting three of its primetime shows to the afternoon slot seems to have worked. Bigg Boss 5 gave the channel an average TVR of 2.1 during the period Monday-Saturday.

For Colors, the debut of fifth season of the big-ticket reality show (fourth on the channel) has got reasonably good ratings, when compared to the previous seasons. • Hindi GECs prepare for big action in October

Hindi GECs prepare for big action in October

MUMBAI: The pecking order of the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre, which has remained unscathed since the launch of KBC (Kaun Banega Crorepati) on Sony Entertainment Television (Set), is expected to shake up once again after two weeks.

As per TAM data for the week ended 24 September (HSM, C&S, 4+ years), Star Plus continues to lead (289 GRPs) with Set in hot pursuit (270 GRPs). At the same time, the gap between Set and number three player Colors (211 GRPs) has widened to 59 GRPs.

However, the order might change soon as the GECs are either going to launch new shows or are tweaking their programming – some are even doing both.

Colors, for instance, is launching its big-ticket reality show Bigg Boss 5, starting 2 October. The show will this time have two hosts – Salman khan and Sanjay Dutt – to pull audiences. The channel at the same time is axing its non-performing show Mukti Bandhan while Laagi Tujhse Lagan and Na Aana Is Des Laado, two primetime shows, are being pushed to afternoon slots.

Meanwhile, Star Plus’ dance reality show Just Dance is coming to an end on 1 October and will be replaced by the second season of MasterChef India sans Akshay Kumar.

Set is also beefing up its primetime. So far the channel is having a dream run with KBC, which is giving it an average weekly TVR of 5.4. It will launch a romantic drama show, Kuch To Log Kahenge, an adaptation of Pakistani television drama Dhoop Kinare, starting 3 October. Notably, Set’s dependence on non-fiction has dramatically come down and more dailies are getting good eyeballs for the channel. These include Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Crime Petrol and Saas Bina Sasural. With Kuchh Toh…, the channel is expecting a similar response.

Zee TV is aunching a new reality show, Star Ya Rockstar, after the completion of Saregamapa L’il Champs. Zee TV will also be launching a couple of fiction shows in October.

Even Sab, which is hoping to cross 200 GRPs by end of the fiscal, is axing its non-performing show Ammaji ki Gali and replacing it with the male-protagonist show – Don’t Worry Chachu.

At present, Zee TV has settled at number four and closed the week with 176 GRPs, ahead of Sab (123 GRPs). Imagine TV registered 78 GRPs followed by Star one and Sahara One with 39 and 33 GRPs respectively.
