    BARC week 20: Sun TV back to pole position again across genres

    MUMBAI: Week 20 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) All India data has been seeing the pendulum shift back and forth as the IPL season 9 backed Sony Max was again relegated to second spot by Sun TV and by a substantial margin at that. Star Utsav moved up to seventh from the tenth position in week 19, while Zee Telugu, the only other regional channel among the top 10, returned to tenth place from the previous week’s ninth slot. The list covers the top 10 channels across all genres.

    Returning to the top slot once again, Sun TV reported 950618 Impression (000s) in week 20 as compared to 944626 Impression (000s) in week 19. Sony Max lost ratings with a score of 881515 Impression (000s) from 944851 Impression (000s) in week 19 to fall back to second place.

    In the ding dong battle between third and fourth spots, Star Plus once again climbed to number three in week 20 with 702036 Impression (000s) as compared to 664177 Impressions (000s) in week 19. Colors was fourth with 668837 Impressions (000s) as compared to 703707 Impression (000s) in week 19

    Zee TV retained fifth space in week 20 with lower ratings of 627367 Impressions (000s) as compared to 639647 Impressions (000s) in the previous week. Sony Pal remained at number six with 497247 Impressions (000s) as compared to 503774 Impressions (000s) to the previous weeks ratings

    Star Utsav moved up to seventh place while pushing down Zee Anmol in week 20, with 461430 Impressions (000’s) as compared to 453454 Impressions (000’s) in week 19

    Life OK also retained eighth spot with 456716 Impressions (000s) as compared to the previous week’s 471354 Impressions (000s).

    Zee Anmol moved down two places to ninth place in week 20 with 451646 Impressions (000s) as compared to 500101 Impressions (000s) in week 19.

    The only other regional channel in the list of top ten channels across genres, Zee Telugu, returned back to tenth spot in week 20 with 432613 Impressions (000s) as compared to 46866 Impressions (000s) in week 19.

    Rural HSM Data

    Sony Pal garnered the first position with 382703 Impressions (000’s) followed by Star Utsav with 364512 Impressions (000’s) and Zee Anmol with 352241 Impressions (000’s) stood at number three.

    Zee Networks’ Hindi GEC channel Zee TV bagged the fourth spot with 267343 Impressions (000’s) while another FTA Rishtey grabbed fifth spot with 261310 Impressions (000’s).

    Colors stood at sixth spot with 221685 Impressions (000’s) followed by Star Plus at number seven with 215485 Impressions (000’s) and Life OK at number eight with 160105 Impressions (000’s).

    In rural data, Big Magic stood at number nine with 157675 Impressions (000’s) and Sab TV with 107724 Impressions (000’s) grabbed tenth spot.

    Urban HSM data

    Star Plus replaced Colors leading the Hindi general entertainment channel (GECs) with 431857 Impressions (000’s) followed by Colors with 414213 (000’s) on second slot and Zee TV with 315703 Impressions (000’s) at third place.

    Life OK, Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Channel bagged fourth, fifth and sixth position with 283930 Impressions (000’s), 264192Impressions (000’s) and 216711 Impressions (000’s) respectively.

    &TV with 127052 Impressions (000’s) stood at number seven while Sony’s free to air channel Sony Pal grabbed eighth spot with 113523 (000’s) and Zee Anmol at ninth with 98875 Impressions (000’s).

    Zee TV appoints new European syndication head Janice Strangward

    MUMBAI: Sunita Uchil, chief business officer, International ad sales, Global syndication and production of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) announced the appointment of Janice Strangward as head of European sales syndication based out of London. Strangward previously held senior executive roles at Discovery Networks Europe, Passion Distribution, EOne and Al Jazeera Media Network.

    Zee TV brings season 2 of ‘Dance Singapore Dance’

    MUMBAI: Zee TV, the flagship channel of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL), has announced the return of its highly popular reality dance competition, Dance Singapore Dance season 2. The open category competition is open to all residents of Singapore aged 16 and above, and aims to provide a platform for amateur and experienced dancers to showcase their talent. Pre-registration for the show has begun on www.apac.zeetv.com/dsd and auditions will take place on Saturday 28 of May 2016 at 9 am onwards at the La Salle College of the Arts, 1 McNally St, Singapore 187940.

    Zee TV Senior vice president International business Tripta Singh said, “We are delighted to return with Dance Singapore Dance S2 after a highly successful launch Season. This year we have increased the prize money for the winner to S$15,000 and included cash and other prizes for the first and second runners-up. After the finale of Season 1, we continued to groom the dancers and provided them with on-ground opportunities in the Asia Pacific region to perform and showcase their talents. Dance Singapore Dance is not just a TV show but a platform for aspiring dancers to take their talent to the next level”.

    Dance Singapore Dance is a localised version of the popular Dance India Dance series. Returning for its second season, the show will bring together aspiring dancers from different backgrounds and cultures from across Singapore. The winner and finalists from Season 1 were catapulted to fame with many of them gaining experience through various on-ground events organized by Zee TV and their partners.

    After the audition process on 28 May, the top 12 dancers will be shortlisted by an international panel of judges. These 12 will then get to train with some of the industry’s best choreographers and their performances will be featured on the show ‘Dance Singapore Dance Season 2’ on Zee TV, which will be broadcasted across 18 countries. The top three winners of the competition stand to win prizes of up to $20,000.

    From the audition rounds to the various studio challenges, the 12 episodes will culminate in one dancer winning the title of “Singapore’s Best Dancing Star”. The winner of Season 2 will take home S$15,000 and the First and Second Runners-Up will also be awarded prizes.

    Dance Singapore Dance S1 Winner Shahrin Johry:

    Shahrin Johry, 33, is the winner of Zee TV’s Dance Singapore Dance. A professional dancer/choreographer at Maya Dance Theatre, Shahrin recently concluded his full-length production, KA; he used a portion of his prize money from Dance Singapore Dance to produce the hour-long dance piece. While contributing to the local art scene, the production was a gift to his teachers who have taught him and moulded him to be an artist.

    A street dancer in his youth, Shahrin thirst for knowledge initiated him on a journey to learn different dance forms and genres, leading him to learn Bharathanatyam dance vocabulary for creation of works inspired from Asian aesthetics and dynamism and eventually enrolling in Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore to further hone his artistry.

    MUMBAI: Channels run on their popularity and reach more than anything else, and BARC is the ladder to measure that. Week 19 of BARC rating has yet again delivered a game-changing data break-up by dividing ratings into rural and urban categories. 

    In week 19, Broadcasters’ free to air channel (FTA) have madetheir its presence in top five channels across Rural Hindi speaking market (HSM) where Zee Networks’ FTA Zee Anmol topped the chart. 

    Rural HSM Data 

    Zee Anmol garnered the first position with 397738 Impressions (000’s) followed by Sony Pictures Network’s free to air channel Sony Pal with 386861 Impressions (000’s) and Star India’s FTA channel Star Utsav with 355620 Impressions (000’s) stood at number three. 

    Zee Networks’ Hindi GEC channel Zee TV bagged the fourth spot with 283082 Impressions (000’s) while another FTA Rishtey grabbed fifth spot with 282625 Impressions (000’s).

    On the other hand, &TV made its entry in top ten channels across Urban HSM with 119686 Impressions (000’s) at number seven while Sony’s free to air channel Sony Pal grabbed eighth spot with 115399 (000’s) and Zee Anmol at ninth with 101704 Impressions (000’s).
