Zee TV’s Disruptive teaser campaign for Haiwan Grabs Eyeballs

MUMBAI: A collaboration that has spelt glorious success on television time and again, Zee TV and Balaji Telefilms are back again to reinvent the genre of science-fiction with elements of drama, romance and action for Indian television audiences with Haiwan: The Monster. This weekend primetime thriller is a magnum opus that promises to unleash the biggest monster viewers have seen so far on television. With the launch of this high-octane sci-fi drama, Zee TV introduced a disruptive campaign to pique people’s interest, generate curiosity, spark off conversations and have them guessing what’s coming their way!

By way of a teaser, the character of Haiwan was introduced to audiences across Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat through a series of intriguing unbranded billboards featuring just the eerie eyes and fingers of the Haiwan with a warning message “Shehar Mitaane Aa Raha Hu Main”. This was strategically supported by RJs talking about such citings in the cities, asking listeners to guess what they thought the billboards were about, click pictures with the billboards and post it on social media with their interpretation of the same. Memes and posts by social media enthusiasts reacting to the campaign set the internet abuzz with speculation about the billboards.  With an integrated approach cutting across mediums to drive conversations on the Haiwan, Zee TV had audiences sharing elaborate interpretations, resulting in a whopping number of engagements across Zee TV’s digital platforms.

In the second phase of this campaign, the hoardings finally revealed the brand, the show name, the characters and the concept. The social media platforms, too, were used to unveil the concept through interesting memes and video graphics. As a response to this, the engaged audience not only appreciated the initiative but also drove conversations on the Sci-Fi genre across Twitter and other social media platforms, leading to high-intensity organic promotions for the show.

Haiwan : The Monster follows the story of long-cherished friendships and a love triangle that sees a bromance turn to bad blood!  The show premiered on 31st August at 7 pm and boasts of an extraordinary cast including Riddhima Pandit, Ankit Mohan, Param Singh, Hiten Tejwani, Dalljiet Kaur, Manini Misra among others.

Two Hindi GECs – Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) flagship channel Sony Entertainment Television or SET and the Viacom18 flagship channel Colors returned to BARC’s across genres list on all platforms at the cost of two Hindi movies channels in week 34 of 2019.

Six Hindi GECs, two Tamil channels and one channel each from the Hindi movies and Telugu genres made up BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms in week 34 of 2019. From the Network’s perspective, there were three channels from Star India, two channels from SPN and one channel each from B4U, Enterr10, the Sun TV Network, Viacom18 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (Zeel). Eight of the channels in the list were on the pay platform and two were free to air or FTA.

In BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on the pay platform, there were five Hindi GECs, three Telugu channels and one channel each from the Hindi movies and Tamil genres. There were three channels each from SPN and Star India, two channels from Viacom18 and one channel each from the Sun TV Network and Zeel in BARC’s across genres list on the pay platform. Besides the eight pay channels that were present in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms, the two more channels present in the across genres weekly list on the pay platform were SPN’s Hindi movies channel Sony Max and the Network18 associated Telugu GEC ETV Telugu. The Sun TV Network’s flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV headed the across genres on the pay platform weekly list.

In BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on the free platform for week 34 of 2019, there were three channels each from the Bhojpuri, Hindi GEC and Hindi movies genres, and one channel from the Marathi genre. Four of the channels were from Enterr 10 Television, three were from B4U, two were from Zeel and one channel was from Skystar during the period under review. Quite obviously, Dangal headed this list also.

As mentioned above, Dangal headed BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms in week 34 of 2019 with 860.070 million weekly impressions as compared to second rank and 827.063 million weekly impressions in week 33.

Sun TV slipped a place to second rank in week 34 of 2019 with 850.711 million weekly impressions in week 34 of 2019 as compared to first rank and 902.564 million weekly impressions in the previous week.

  • BARC week 33: 2 Hindi movie channels push out 2 Hindi GECs from across genres list

BARC week 33: 2 Hindi movie channels push out 2 Hindi GECs from across genres list

BENGALURU: Hindi movies such as Vidroh Lets Fight Back, Policewala Gunda 2, Dangerous Khiladi 3, and Dil Hi To Hai (Jackie Shroff) helped push up free-to-air (FTA) Hindi movie channel B4U Kadak to fifth rank in Broadcast Audience Research Council of India (BARC) weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms in week 33 of 2019 from sixth place in the previous week. The four movies were among the top 5 Hindi movies programmes in the combined urban and rural Hindi speaking markets – HSM (U+R) as well as in rural HSM – HSM (R) per BARC’s weekly lists of top 5 Hindi movies programmes in HSM (U+R) and HSM (R).  Week 33 of 2019 (Saturday, 10 August 2019 to Friday, 16 August 2019) is the week or period under review.

Two other Hindi movies channels, Zee Cinema and Sony Max, both pay TV, thrust their way into the same list at eighth and tenth ranks respectively during the same week. Movies beamed on both these two pay Hindi movies channels had higher viewership in urban HSM or HSM (U) based on their presence in BARC’s weekly list of top 5 Hindi movies programmes in HSM (U) only. Two major Hindi GECs – Colors and Sony Entertainment Television which exited the BARC across genres list on all platforms, however had the solace of retaining their presence in BARC’s weekly list of to 10 pay channels across genres with improvement in their respective ranks in week 33 of 2019 vis-à-vis week 32. BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms had three Hindi movies channels in the week as compared to only one in the previous week.

Four Hindi GECs, three Hindi movies, two Tamil and one Telugu channel comprised BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms. From the network’s perspective, there were three channels from Star India, two channels each from Sony Pictures Network India (SPN) and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd and one channel each from B4U, Enterr 10 Television and the Sun TV Network. Hence there were more regional languages – especially Telugu and Tamil, and Hindi movies combined than there were Hindi GECs in BARC's weekly lists of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms during the period under review.

In the case of BARC’s weekly list of top 10 pay channels across genres, like in week 32 of 2019, there were five Hindi GECs, two each of Hindi movies and Tamil channels and one Telugu channel in week 33. The channels were the same in week 33 as in week 32 with some shuffling in ranks. From the network’s perspective, there were three channels each from SPN and Star India, two channels from Zeel and one channel each from the Sun TV Network and Viacom18. In BARC’s weekly list of top 10 pay channels across genre in week 33 of 2019 were occupied by a Tamil (Sun TV) and Telugu (Star Maa) like in week 32. A Hindi GEC in the form of Star India’s flagship Hindi GEC Star Plus was at third rank in this BARC list in week 33. As mentioned above, the eight pay channels in BARC's weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms were also present in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 pay channels across genres, along with Zee Cinema and Sony Max in week 33 of 2019.

This article’s focus hereon will be on ‘all platforms’ – BARC publishes three across genres weekly lists – on all platforms, on pay platforms and on free platforms. There were eight pay channels and two FTA channels in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms in week 33 of 2019, same as in week 32.

Sun TV Network's flagship Tamil GEC Sun TV reclaimed first rank in BARC’s weekly list of top 10 channels across genres on all platforms in week 33 of 2019 with 902.564 million weekly impressions as compared to second rank and 870.981 million weekly impressions in week 32.

At second rank in week 33 of 2019 was Enterr 10 Television’s FTA Hindi GEC Dangal with 827.063 million weekly impressions as compared to first rank and 872.724 million weekly impressions the previous week.

Star India’s Telugu GEC Star Maa retained its third rank in week 33 of 2019 with 761.055 million weekly impressions as compared to 767.337 million wekly impressions in week 32.

Star India’s flagship pay Hindi GEC Star Plus also retained its fourth place in week 33 of 2019 with 751.106 million weekly impressions as compared to 719.127 million weekly impressions in week 32.

As mentioned above, B4U’s FTA Hindi Movies channel B4U Kadak climbed to fifth rank in week 33 of 2019 with 683.075 million weekly impressions as compared to sixth rank and 651.413 million weekly impressions.

With Over 2 Billion Views, ZEE TV’s #DanceKaJungistaan Challenge goes viral on Tik Tok

MUMBAI: With a view to leverage the fan frenzy that surrounds the return of a dance franchise as iconic as Dance India Dance and to create an exciting touch-point for viewers to feel actively included in the mass anticipation and countdown towards the launch of its seventh season, the marketing machinery of Zee TV has innovated yet again by partnering with the short video platform Tik-Tok. With the latest season introducing an all-new format of weekly knock-outs much like a sports league where 16 dance champions representing the 4 zones of India will be pitted against each other in the #DanceKaJungistaan, the Tik Tok #DanceKaJungistan challenge invites fans to replicate the unique hook-steps choreographed by the coaches of the 4 zonal teams – North Ke Nawabs, East Ke Tigers, West Ke Singhams and South Ke Thalaivas as a sign of their support to their favourite zones on the show. In its first two hours of announcement, the dance challenge was viewed by over 25 million users across the globe and a week down, it has crossed a staggering 2 Billion Views and continues to receive entries from various age groups as the challenge has gone viral on the Tik-Tok app.

Prathyusha Agarwal, Chief Marketing Officer, ZEE commented, “The impact Dance India Dance, as a franchise, has had on the lives of countless aspiring dancers from every corner of the country stands testimony to its hallowed position as the singular game-changer for dance on Indian television. With the new season of Dance India Dance presenting audiences with a hyper-competitive format between the four zones of the country, we were keen to ride on a platform that lets fans take over the signature moves of each zone and make them their own and demonstrate their fandom for DID. With Tik Tok fast becoming the platform for mass creative expression and entertainment in India, it was the right avenue for democratizing the power of the DID stage and making it even more accessible. We are overwhelmed by the kind of response to our dance challenge and it only encourages us to further innovate and provide interactive experiences for our viewers.”

Sachin Sharma, Director, Sales and Partnerships, TikTok India said, “TikTok provides an opportunity to brands to connect with its target audience in the most entertaining and engaging way. Through 15-second short videos, everyone engaging on TikTok is making every second count." He further added, "We have seen a lot of dancers and choreographers making interesting content and sharing it with the community at large. The enormous success of ZEE TV’s #DanceKaJungistaan Dance Challenge is another example of how TikTok inspires users to share their passion and creative expression through their videos. We look forward to finding more synergies with the team at Zee to promote their content on TikTok."

The exciting season kicked off with the judges trio – superstar Kareena Kapoor Khan, the King of Hooksteps and the Boss of Dance – Bosco Martis and the ultimate swag star – the reigning rapper with killer moves – Raftaar dancing up a storm in the grand premiere episode and the journey of Jungistan has barely begun.
