    Zee Studios comes on board to release the internationally acclaimed Love Sonia

    MUMBAI: On the heels of success of their latest film, Dhadak, Zee Studios comes on board to release one of the most intriguing films based on human trafficking, Love Sonia, on September 14, 2018 which has got standing ovations across screenings.

    Alongside marquee films, Zee Studios has always believed in also backing content-driven cinema. Following successful films under their banner such as Secret Superstar, Parmanu, and most recently, Dhadak, the studio is now all set to release this powerful film.

    Director Tabrez Noorani expresses, “I am extremely happy to associate with Zee Studios, they have put their night behind content driven cinema and I am glad now they will be releasing Love Sonia in India. Both Amar, our Co- Producer, David and I are elated to have Zee Studios on board.”

    Executive producer of the film Shalini Thackeray says, “I am extremely happy to have Zee studios partner with us again . The movie is extremely important to us and it is good to have partners that believe in the content and want to make sure that it will reach  out to the audiences in India.”

    The film is a hard-hitting story of a 17 year old girl who risks her life to rescue her sister from a vicious human trafficking network across India, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

    Tamasha Talkies and Samraaj Talkies in association with India Take One Productions, Cinemantra Entertainment & Dynasty Consulting Group are presenting Love Sonia. The film is Tabrez Noorani’s directorial debut, produced by the Academy Award nominated producer of Life of Pi, David Womark andTabrez Noorani. Co-produced by Amar Butala and Executive Producers include Shalini Thackeray, Deepak Nayar and Pravesh Sahni. The Dynasty Consulting Group was instrumental in setting up the movie.

    The film has a strong ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Rajkummar Rao, Anupam Kher, Sai Tamhankar, Adil Hussain, Demi Moore, Mark Duplass with Freida Pinto and introducing Mrunal Thakur and Riya Sisodiya.

    Presented by Zee Studios, Love Sonia releases on 14th September 2018.

    Zee Studios International’s Secret Superstar hits it big in Taiwan

    Zee Studios International has collected $700,681 from its release of Aamir Khan-starrer Secret Superstar in Taiwan, making the movie the widest Bollywood film in the country. The film, which also features Zaira Wasim, lit up the box office in India.

    The distribution company began the next phase of the international release for the film by opening in a key territory, Taiwan, on 24 November 2017 across 73 screens, a record for an Indian film in the Chinese-speaking territory.

    Vibha Chopra, head – Zee Studios International (film marketing, distribution and acquisition), said, “Content is what wins hearts worldwide and Secret Superstar, which is heavy on content, is proof of that. So much so that it is the widest Bollywood film release in Taiwan. We are happy to see how positively international markets are reacting to the film.”

    After releasing across markets such as the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, Singapore, UAE, Pakistan, Turkey, Malta, Hungary, and the rest of the world, Secret Superstar is serving as a bellwether for Zee Studios International and Aamir Khan Productions.

    “Given that Secret Superstar has connected with various audiences across the globe, we are excited to see how well the film does in the coming months in other territories as well,” she added.

    In the movie, Wasim plays a teenage girl named Insia who dreams of becoming a singer. The film is about how she fulfils her dreams by keeping her identity hidden.

    Zee Studios to produce Indian shows’ adaptation in Canada

    MUMBAI: Entertaining the world for over two decades, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has achieved another milestone by becoming the first Indian broadcaster to set up a production company in Canada.

    A few of the initial productions that are in the pipeline include adaptations of the smash-hit format of ZEE’s homegrown sitcom, ‘Hum Paanch’ which is being produced in its British version as ‘Lala’s Ladiez’ and an Anglo-Spanish sitcom ‘Love Thy Neighbour’ (working title) which is adapted from the ever-popular home grown format ‘Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain.’

    ZEE Studios International marks ZEE’s entry into global production for mainstream audiences which will facilitate production requirement for ZEE’s diverse platforms as well as international markets. The production company, located at Vancouver, British Columbia, will be headed by Subhadarshi Tripathy who will be supported by a local team.

    Tripathy will jointly report to ZEEL MD and CEO Punit Goenka, and CEO – international broadcast Business Amit Goenka.

    Amit Goenka said, “Canada is known as a large production hub for various Hollywood companies, as the country offers the requisite infrastructure, talent pool, scenic locales as well as a favourable Government incentive scheme. After a series of discussions with the Government of British Columbia, Canada, we were invited to set up a production company in Vancouver. Our endeavor through this venture is to produce global content for mainstream audiences across various international markets as well as take care of our domestic requirements.”

    “ZEE Studios International will be headed by Subhadarshi Tripathy who has been with the organisation for over 18 years and has championed several of our leading brands,” Goenka added.

    “I’m pleased to welcome Zee Studios International to British Columbia,” the premier John Horgan said. “This new production company will create jobs and opportunity for people, and showcase our province to audiences around the world. B.C. is a global leader in film and television production, and we’re pleased to see that growth continue with the addition of Zee Studios International.”

    ZEE Studios International will create global content and formats for international markets in their local languages, many of which will be based on successful Indian ideas and concepts. The production company will initially focus on developing content for television and digital platforms as well as original formats and homegrown remakes, with a plan to venture into film production at a later stage.

    The content developed will encompass a wide portfolio of ingenuously developed scripted and unscripted formats across an array of genres, ranging from reality, game and dance shows to shows in the fictional crime drama, sitcom, sci-fi, horror and paranormal space.

    Zee Studios’ Marathi film ‘Natsamrat’ rakes in Rs 10 crore at box office

    MUMBAI: Marathi cinema has added another feather in its cap. The Nana Patekar starrer Natsamrat Asa Nat Hone Nahi, which is presented and distributed by Zee Studios, has raked in Rs 10 crore at the box office in its opening weekend.

     

    The Mahesh Manjrekar directed film opened to packed houses on Friday, 1 January, this New Year.

     

    The movie was released across theatres on more than 400 screens and 1600 daily shows all over the county. The film has dialogues by V. V. Shirwadkar and Kitan Yadnyopavit. It also stars Vikram Gokhale and Medha Manjrekar.

     

    Director Mahesh Manjarekar said, “Marathi cinema has become synonymous with good cinema in recent times. MakingNatsamrat was like a dream come true for me. Our team had put heart and soul to make this dream happen and today I am overwhelmed with the response Natsamrat is getting from audience and film critics.”

     

    Zee Studios CEO Nittin Keni added, “The success of Natsamrat has created history. It is important to us and the Marathi film industry. The Marathi cinema is breaking boundaries yet again. The response of Natsamrat has proved how mature that Marathi audience has become. The viewers and our team are equal shareholders in the success of the film.”

    Zee Studios to co-produce Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ with Neeraj Pandey

    MUMBAI: Zee Studios will be co-producing the Akshay Kumar starred Rustom along Neeraj Pandey & Shital Bhatia’s Friday Filmworks and KriArj Entertainment, which is slated to release worldwide on 12 August, 2016.

     

    Inspired by real life incidents, the film is written by Vipul Rawal and also marks the directorial debut of Tinu Suresh Desai. 

     

    Pandey will also pen the dialogues of the film, co-write the screenplay with Rawal as well as contribute towards the film’s edit.

     

    Apart from Kumar, the film will also star two actresses. However, their names have not yet been finalised.

     

    After Special 26 and Baby, the romantic thriller Rustom will be the third project in which Akshay Kumar and Pandey’s Friday Filmworks have teamed up.

     

    Kumar said, “Having worked with Neeraj on two fabulous projects, I am excited to start work on our new film. I am happy that Zees Studios is putting its might behind this film along with KriArj Entertainment and Friday Filmworks. It gives me and the entire team confidence of this launched worldwide using the global might of Zee.”

     

    Pandey added, “When Tinu narrated Rustom to us, we immediately got hooked to the quality of the narrative and its potential and instantly decided that it was something that we would like to produce. We also really felt that given the nature of the story, Akshay would be the perfect fit and him agreeing to come on board will definitely give it the canvas it requires.”

     

    Friday Filmworks producer Shital Bhatia said, “One of the other key elements that was central to our plan while green lighting this film was that to do justice to the story it would need to be an international film traversing multiple countries and for that we would definitely require good partners. To that extent when both Zee Studios and KriArj Entertainment saw the same potential in the story as us and readily agreed to co-produce this film along with Friday Filmworks, it just further vindicated our belief in this project.”

     

    Zee Studios CEO Nittin Keni said, “We are delighted to partner with Akshay Kumar, country’s leading icon, Neeraj Pandey and KriArj Entertainment on Rustom. For us at Zee, this is another key milestone for Zee’s aggressive foray into Bollywood.”

    The first shooting schedule of Rustom commences by mid-December. The film will travel to multiple locations globally in the course of its production.

     

    The music of Rustom will be released by Zee Music.
