ZMZ brings Indian Jones festival for some festive thrills

Zee Movie Zone aka ZMZ is all geared to present Harrison Ford in the swashbuckling character of Indiana Jones, based on early 19th century Italian archaeologist named Giovanni Belzoni, who became famous for exploring and excavating treasured Egyptian sites.

The ultimate adventure hero will be brought to the screens on Sundays, at 8 pm, on 14, 21 and 28 November, says a company release.

Speaking about screening Indiana Jones-Adventure Overdrive, ZMZ business head, Ajay Trigunayat, said, "Be it critically acclaimed cinema, good old action movies, chick flicks, tear-jerking romances, slapstick humour or your favourite characters, we've got it all. We are currently toying with the idea of introducing the mini-series on ZMZ and are currently looking at Bourne Identity series. We are not only going to showcase the best movies but also the best stars".

All three films in The Adventures of Indiana Jones: from the groundbreaking excitement of Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), to the sinister mysteries of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and the father-son adventures of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), have been painstakingly restored frame-by-frame, digitally re-mastered by THX for superior sound and picture quality, is now being presented on the small screen, claims the release.

MGM expanding in Africa with 2 channels

MUMBAI: MGM Networks, the broadcast unit of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc, is slowly expanding its presence in Asia and Africa. It was in March that MGM forged an alliance with the Orbit Satellite Television And Radio Network for a digital, 24-hour MGM-branded movie channel it launched in the Middle East region.

Now MGM has signed a deal with South Africa-based Multichoice Africa to broadcast to sub-Saharan Africa as a 24-hour movie channel. The channel will be airing movies from a 4000-strong MGM library, a company release says.

Additionally, MGM Networks Latin America will provide a Portuguese language channel to subscribers in Angola, Mozambique and Guinea Bissau, where Portuguese is the language of communication.

In India MGM already has a tie-up with the Zee Network. Zee Movies hived its English movie channel into a separate 70:30 joint venture in September 2000 where Zee held the majority stake. Zee Movies was co-branded and relaunched as Zee-MGM Movie Channel in October 2000.
