    Q3-2016: Zee Media reports 3.3% revenue growth; print reports operating profit

    BENGALURU: Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) reported 3.3 per cent YoY growth in Total Income from Operations (TIO) to Rs 144.46 crore in the quarter ended 31 December, 2015 (Q3-2016, current quarter) as compared to the Rs 131.12 crore in Q3-2015. TIO in the current quarter was 6.1 per cent lower than the Rs 139.84 crore in Q3-2015. The company’s print segment reported an operating profit of Rs 0.98 crore as compared to an operating loss of Rs 3.29 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter.

    Consequently, ZMCL’s EBIDTA in the current quarter increased 24.9 per cent to Rs 20.97 crore as compared to Rs 16.79 crore in Q3-2015. ZMCL’s Television segment EBIDTA for the current quarter however was flat at Rs 19.99 crore as compared to the Rs 20.08 crore in Q3-2015. ZMCL’s EBIDTA in the immediate trailing quarter was much lower at Rs 6.71 crore.

     

    The company reported a lower loss of Rs 1.11 crore as compared to a loss of Rs 10.41 crore in Q3-2015 and a loss of Rs 16.98 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    The company’s advertising revenue in the current quarter also increased 3.3 per cent YoY to Rs 103.46 crore as compared to Rs 100.13 crore and increased 14.1 per cent QoQ from Rs 90.69 crore. Subscription revenue in Q3-2016 increased one per cent YoY to Rs 30.64 crore from Rs 30.33 and increased 12.5 per cent QoQ from Rs 27.24 crore.

     

    ZMCL’s Television segment reported 6.5 per cent YoY growth in revenue in Q3-2016 to Rs 116.42 crore from Rs 109.32 crore and 16.1 per cent QoQ growth from Rs 100.30 crore. Print segment declined 8.2 per cent YoY in the current quarter to Rs 28.04 crore from Rs 30.55 crore and increased 4.8 per cent QoQ from Rs 26.75 crore.

     

    The company has controlled its total expenditure in Q3-2015, which was almost flat (up by 0.3 per cent) YoY at Rs 123.49 crore as compared to Rs 123.08 crore and was 2.6 per cent more QoQ as compared to Rs 120.33 crore.

     

    Cost of goods and operations in the current quarter declined 7.9 per cent YoY to Rs 32.50 crore as compared to Rs 35.29 crore  and was 3.4 per cent lower QoQ than 33.64 crore. Employee Cost in the current quarter declined 4.1 per cent to Rs 38.15 crore from Rs 39.76 crore and was 1.1 per cent lower QoQ than the Rs 38.60 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

    Zee Media Corporation elevates Pooja Gupta as marketing head

    MUMBAI: Zee Media Corporation (ZMC) DVP – content strategy and marketing Pooja Gupta has been promoted as marketing head with effect from 9 November. 

     

    Based in Noida, she will continue to report to Zee Media Corporation COO R K Arora.

     

    In her new role, Gupta’s focus will be to build brand awareness of all channels of Zee Media across various sectors and verticals as well as with key stakeholders leading to increase traction with the company’s advertiser-customer.  

    Gupta’s contribution will be to undertake a review of the branding and marketing proposition, in line with the development of Zee Media strategy.

     

    All marketing functions, response cell and content strategy teams across the channels will now report to Gupta.

    BENGALURU:  Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL), the erstwhile Zee News Limited reported a 3.1 percent deline in Total Income from Operations (TIO) to Rs 127.04 crore in the quarter ended September 30, 2015 (Q2-2016, current quarter) as compared to the Rs 131.12 crore in Q2-2015. TIO in the current quarter was 6.1 percent lower than the Rs 135.26 crore in Q1-2016.

    ZMCL’s EBIDTA however improved 9.7 percent to Rs 6.71 crore in the current quarter as compared to the Rs 6.12 crore in Q2-2015. ZMCL’s EBIDTA in the immediate trailing quarter was higher at Rs 14.76 crore.

     

    ZMCL’s existing television channels returned positive operating results (Positive EBIDTA) of Rs 17.43 crore crore in Q2-2016. Its TV Broadcasting EBIDTA was negatively impacted to the extent of Rs 7.26 crore by its new channels, and hence the TV Broadcast business returned a positive EBIDTA of Rs 10.17 crore.  Overall, ZMCL’s EBIDTA was further impacted by a negative EBIDTA of Rs 3.45 crore from its Print Business, hence the company reported the EBIDTA of Rs 6.71 crore mentioned above in Q2-2016.

     

    While the company’s Television Broadcast business revenue grew YoY grew 1.8 percent to Rs 100.30 crore in the current quarter as compared to Rs 98.56 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter, its Print business revenue declined 7.9 percent to Rs 30.02 crore as compared to Rs 32.59 crore. TV Broadcast business revenue in Q1-2016 was higher at Rs 108.64 crore, while Print business revenue was lower at Rs 28.04 crore.

     

    Advertisement and Subscription Revenues

     

    The company’s overall advertising and subscription revenues declined both YoY and QoQ in Q2-2016. ZMCL reported 2.6 percent lower advertising revenue of Rs 90.69 crore (71.4 percent of Total Revenue) in the current quarter as compared to 93.14 crore (71 percent of Total Revenue) in Q2-2015 and was 6.3 percent lower than the Rs 96.75 crore (71.5 percent of Total Revenue).

     

    TV Business advertisement revenue increased 2.1 percent to Rs 72.59 crore in Q2-2016 as compared to the Rs 71.1 crore in Q2-2015, but declined 8.9 percent as compared to the Rs 79.72 crore in the immediate trailing quarter. TV Business Advertisement revenue from existing channels declined 3.9 percent in the current quarter to Rs 65.93 crore as compared to the Rs 68.58 crore in Q2-2015 and declined 11 percent as compared to the Rs 74.05 crore in Q1-2016. Advertisement revenue from new channels more than doubled (went up 2.7 times) to Rs 6.66 crore as compared to the Rs 2.52 crore in Q2-2015 and increased 17.3 percent as compared to the Rs 5.68 crore in Q1-2016.

     

    Overall subscription revenue in the current quarter declined 3 percent to Rs 27.24 crore (21.4 percent of Total Revenue) in Q2-2016 as compared to the Rs 28.07 crore (21.4 percent of Total Revenue) in the corresponding year ago quarter and was 5 percent lower than the Rs 28.67 crore (21.2 percent of Total Revenue) in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    TV Business YoY subscription revenue declined 0.2 percent in the current quarter to Rs 24.44 crore as compared to the Rs 24.62crore in Q2-2015, and declined 5.4 percent as compared to the Rs 25.84 crore in Q1-2016.

     

    Let us look at the other numbers reported by ZMCL

     

    ZMCL’s Total Expenditure in the current quarter declined 3.4 percent to Rs 133.35 crore as compared to the Rs 138.01 crore in Q2-2015, but increased 0.3 percent as compared to the Rs 133.01 crore in Q1-2016.

     

    Employee Benefits Expense in Q2-2016 declined 7.2 percent to Rs 38.60 crore in Q2-2016 as compared to the Rs 41.60 crore in the corresponding year ago quarter and was 8.3 percent lower than the Rs 42.11 crore in Q1-2016.

     

    Operational Cost in Q2-2016 declined 17.5 percent to Rs 21.14 crore as compared to the Rs 25.62 crore in Q2-2015 but was 1.7 percent higher than the Rs 20.79 crore in Q1-2016.

     

    Marketing, Distribution and Business Promotion Expenses in Q2-2016 increased 66 percent to Rs 24.97 crore as compared to the Rs 15.04 crore in Q2-2015 and was 15.3 percent more than the Rs 21.65 crore in the immediate trailing quarter.

     

    ZMCL’s loss in Q2-2016 increased to Rs 16.98 crore as compared to the loss of Rs 11.53 crore in Q2-2015 and the loss of Rs 7.1 crore in Q1-2016.

    Zee Media responds to SEBI’s queries on Rs 200 crore rights issue

    NEW DELHI: Zee Media has replied to the queries sent by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) from the merchant banker of Zee Media Corporation regarding the company’s proposed Rs 200 crore rights issue. 

     

    Zee Media sources in Mumbai told Indiantelevision.com that it had earlier sent a response to SEBI on 21 January but the regulator thereafter sought further queries. These had been answered well in time, the sources added.

     

    The sources declined to give more details as it said the issue was at a delicate stage.

     

    However, the sources clarified that in a rights issue, shares are issued to existing investors as per their holding at pre-determined price and ratio. 

     

    As per the latest weekly update to the processing status of draft offer documents filed with SEBI, the regulator has said clarifications were awaited on the proposed rights issue of Zee Media as on 23 January this year. 

     

    SEBI had said that it might issue observations on Zee Media document within 30 days from the date of receipt of satisfactory reply from the lead merchant bankers to the clarification or additional information sought from them. 

     

    The regulator had received the draft offer documents on 2 January this year through its lead manager Axis Capital. The company’s proposed rights issue is estimated to be raised up to Rs 200 crore. 

     

    The funds raised from the issue would be utilised towards purchase of equipment and accessories for production and broadcasting, repayment of certain loans availed by the company, funding subsidiaries for repayment of loans, and other general corporate purposes. 

     

    Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) broadcasts 10 news channels including two national ones – Zee News and Zee Business.

     

    Earlier in October, the company’s board of directors had “approved, in-principle, raising of funds for an amount not exceeding Rs 200 crore through issue of equity shares of the company to its eligible shareholders.”

    Zee Media gets board approval to raise Rs 200 crore via rights issue

    MUMBAI: Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) today announced the result of its board meeting, informing that the board of directors has approved raising Rs 200 crore via rights issue.

    The company last week announced its plan to consider raising of funds and was looking at various routes, including the rights issue for the same.

    In a statement to BSE, the company said, “Zee Media Corporation Ltd has informed BSE that the Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting held on October 20, 2014, inter alia, has approved, in-principle, raising of funds for an amount of not exceeding Rs 200 Crores through issue of equity shares of the Company to its eligible shareholders on a rights basis in accordance with the Companies Act, 2013, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2009 and other applicable laws (the “Rights Issue”).”

    An issue of rights to a company’s existing shareholders entitles them to buy additional shares directly from the company, in proportion to their existing holdings within a fixed time period. In a rights offering, the subscription price at which each share may be purchased in generally at a discount to the current market price. Rights are often transferable, allowing the holder to sell them on the open market.

    The company today also announced its Q2-2015 results. The media corporation posted a Rs 12.8 crore loss in the current quarter as compared to Rs 14.57 crore loss in Q1-2015 and a profit of Rs 4.27 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q2-2014).

    ZMCL, formerly known as Zee News Ltd, broadcasts 10 news channels including two national ones – Zee News and Zee Business.

    Its regional news channels are Zee 24 Taas, 24 Ghanta, Zee Sangam, Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Zee Purvaiya, Zee Marudhara, Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal and Zee Kalinga.

    Zee Media Q2: posts 76 per cent growth in ad revenues

    MUMBAI: Zee Media Corporation (ZMCL) has reported a 57.9 per cent rise in its operating revenue (Total Income from Operations – TIO) in Q2-2015 to Rs 131.12 crore from Rs 83.02 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q1-2014) and a one per cent drop than the Rs 133.46 crore reported in the trailing quarter (Q1-2015).

    The Company posted a 76 per cent growth in its advertising revenue to Rs 93.14 crore (71 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2015 as compared to Rs 52.92 crore in Q2-2014 and 16 per cent rise from the Rs 80.1 crore in Q1-2015. The ad revenue from existing channels reported a 42 per cent rise at Rs 68.58 crore versus Rs 48.28 crore in the corresponding quarter last year while the ad revenue from new channels posted a 62 per cent fall at Rs 2.52 crore as compared to Rs 6.64 crore in Q2-2014.

    The subscription revenue for the company grew by 12.8 per cent to Rs 28.07 crore in the current quarter versus Rs 24.90 crore in Q2-2014. The subscription revenue from the existing channels at Rs 24.62 crore was 1.1 per cent less than the Rs 24.90 crore in Q2-2014.

    The media corporation posted a Rs 12.8 crore loss in the current quarter as compared to Rs 14.57 crore loss in Q1-2015 and a profit of Rs 4.27 crore in the corresponding quarter last year (Q2-2014).

    Zee Media posts revenue from two segments: print and television.

    For television business, the company reported total revenue of Rs 98.56 crore, 51 per cent less than the Rs 202.43 crore in Q2-2014 and 5 per cent less than Rs 103.87 crore in Q1-2015.

    While for the print business, it posted total revenue of Rs 32.59 crore for Q2-2015 which was 47.5 per cent below the Rs 62.18 crore reported in Q2-2014 and 10 per cent more than Rs 29.59 crore, the total revenue in Q1-2015.

    The total expenditure for the company in Q2-2015 rose 65.5 per cent at Rs 125 crore from Rs 75.54 crore. The total expenditure for the television segment was reported at Rs 88.05 crore, while for the print segment it was at Rs 36.95 crore in Q2-2015. The total expense for the existing channels is 11.2 per cent at Rs 75.41 crore in Q2-2015 from Rs 67.84 crore in Q2-2014 while for the new channels; the expenditure has been reported at Rs 12.65 crore in Q2-2015, 64.2 per cent higher than the Rs 7.7 crore in Q2-2014.

    The cost of goods and operations for the current quarter increased 70.6 per cent at Rs 29.02 crore (23.2 per cent of TIO) versus Rs 17.01 crore (22.5 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2014.

    The employee cost for the quarter was reported at Rs 41.67 crore (33.3 per cent of TIO), 68.97 per cent more than the Rs 24.66 crore (32.6 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2014.

    The company posted its other expenses at Rs 54.31 crore (43.5 per cent of TIO) which was 69.34 per cent per cent more than the Rs 33.87 crore (44.9 per cent of TIO) in Q2-2014.

    The EBITDA for the company fell 18.2 per cent at Rs 6.12 crore in Q2-2015 versus Rs 7.48 crore in Q2-2014. The EBITDA for the existing channels have been reported at Rs 20.62 crore. For the new channels EBITDA is at a loss of Rs 10.13 crore in the current quarter versus a loss of Rs 3.06 crore in Q2-2014. The EBITDA for the existing channels is up by 95.6 per cent as compared to Rs 10.54 crore in Q2-2014.

    Speaking about the earnings for the current quarter, ZMCL non-executive chairman Subhash Chandra said, “Even as GDP growth in the second quarter is likely to be lower than that in the first quarter of this financial year, domestic industry is likely to witness improved margins which help in developing the investment climate in the country. With India emerging as the only country in the BRICS block to pick up a growth momentum, foreign investors are expected to inject the much needed funds into the system. The honorable Prime Minister’s recent visit to Japan and the US are also likely to augment the same. The mood of public as well as business confidence has improved in general. Providing further buoyancy to the economy is the new hope on the horizon that inflation may finally start softening on the back of steady fall in international crude oil prices and easing of food inflation in the second quarter. A vibrant economy, helped by government’s policy push, will benefit the media and entertainment industry in the mid to long run.”

    The company reached 146.7 million viewers across India and continues to be the largest news network riding on the strength of its two national, eight regional news channels, DNA newspaper and its digital platforms – zeenews.com, dnaindia.com, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter, the press release stated.

    ZMCL to discuss raising funds through rights issue

    MUMBAI: Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) has announced its plans to raise funds and is looking at various routes, including the rights issue for the same.

    The board of the company would consider a proposal on that at its meeting on 20 October, ZMCL informed the BSE.
    “The Board of Directors shall consider a proposal for raising funds by the company through various modes including by way of rights issue,” it said.

    An issue of rights to a company’s existing shareholders entitles them to buy additional shares directly from the company, in proportion to its existing holdings within a fixed time period. In a rights offering, the subscription price at which each share may be purchased is generally at a discount to the current market price. Rights are often transferable, allowing the holder to sell them to an open market.

    The company results for the second quarter of the financial year 2014-15, would also be placed before the board for approval at the meeting, the release added.

    On a consolidated basis, Zee Media Corporation reported a net loss of Rs 17.52 crore in Q1 June 2014 compared with net profit of Rs 5.04 crore in Q1 June 2013. Net sales rose 71.7% to Rs 132.77 crore in Q1 June 2014 over Q1 June 2013.

    ZMCL, formerly known as Zee News Ltd, broadcasts 10 news channels including two national ones – Zee News and Zee Business.

    Its regional news channels are Zee 24 Taas, 24 Ghanta, Zee Sangam, Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Zee Purvaiya, Zee Marudhara, Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal and Zee Kalinga.
