    English Ent.: MNX leads & Zee Cafe retains top slot with significant drop

    MUMBAI: Times rebranding gamble seems to have paid off. Three weeks after Movies Now 2 was rechristened as MNX, it topped the weekly viewership chart of BARC India’s latest all-India data.
    English Movies
    In English Movies genre, in BARC week 32, MNX emerged as the leader with 3384 Impressions (000s) sum by pushing the previous week’s winner Sony Pix to the third position also widening the gap; it pocketed 2710 Impressions (000s) sum. On the other hand, Star Movies climbed two slots to the second position garnering 3084. Movies Now dropped a slot and reached the fourth position scoring 2414 Impressions (000s) sum.
    English Entertainment
    In the English Entertainment genre, Zee Cafe retained its leadership position this week albeit with a terrible drop in ratings from 623 Impressions (000s) sum to 387 Impressions (000s) sum. Comedy Central however retained its second position by adding 60 to its last week’s tally — eventually inching much closer to the winner, Zee Cafe. 
    Star World, Colors Infinity SD and AXN this week sat pretty in their respective previous positions with 148 Impressions (000s) sum, 147 Impressions (000s) sum and 132 Impressions (000s) sum.
    Infotainment
    In the infotainment genre, History TV18 retained its numero uno position albeit with a fall in ratings — from 4453 Impressions (000s) sum to 4068 Impressions (000s) sum. Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel also retained their respective positions with 3796 Impressions (000s) sum and 2547 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. However, Nat Geo Wild and Animal Planet interchanged their previous fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
    Lifestyle 
    In the lifestyle genre, Living Foodz and  Fox Life retained their respective top and second positions with 1454 Impressions (000s) sum and 941 Impressions (000s) sum this week. Food Food and FYI TV18 interchanged their respective spots to reach third and fourth positions. TLC vanished from the list of Top 5 channels in the genre, and Travel XP HD entered the list.

  • Zee Cafe leads with 2X ratings & Sony dethrones Movies Now

    MUMBAI: Zee Cafe has almost doubled its impressions (623) as compared to last week’s (330), whereas Star World climbed two slots and reached the third position.

    In the English Movies genre, Sony Pix, dethroning Movies Now, jumped to the first position from the BARC India chart’s third slot last week. Travelxp HD dropped out of the Top 5 list in the lifestyle genre and FYI TV18 made its debut directly on the fourth position.

    English Entertainment

    Zee Café    lead at 623 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Comedy Central and Star World at 289 Impressions (000s) sum and 216 Impressions (000s) sum. Colors Infinity SD    at 126 Impressions (000s) sum and AXN    at 93 Impressions (000s) sum respectively bagged the fourth and fifth positions in the genre.

    English Movies

    Sony Pix reigned this week with 3100 Impressions (000s) sum closely chased by MNX    with 2898 Impressions (000s) sum. Movies Now    with 2754 Impressions (000s) sum, Star Movies    with 2541 Impressions (000s) sum and HBO    with 1600 pocketed the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

    Infotainment

    In this genre  History TV 18    emerged the topper with 4453 Impressions (000s) sum followed by Discovery Channel    by a wide margin at 3703 Impressions (000s) sum.

    National Geographic Channel    with 2662 Impressions (000s) sum and Nat Geo Wild    with 2397 Impressions (000s) sum bagged the third and fourth positions, respectively. Animal Planet    with 2111 Impressions (000s) sum appeared last in the list of top five channels.

    Lifestyle

    In this genre, according to BARC week 31’s all-India data, Living Foodz emerged the winner with 1496 Impressions (000s) sum. Fox Life    with 910 Impressions (000s) sum and Food Food    with 682 Impressions (000s) sum respectively bagged the second and third positions. FYI TV18    with 585 Impressions (000s) sum and TLC    with 454 Impressions (000s) sum pocketed the last two of the top five positions.

  • Zee Cafe dislodges C Central, Colors Infinity SD & HBO enter Top 5

    MUMBAI: Zee Cafe dislodged the last week’s leader Comedy Central whereas Colors Infinity SD and HBO entered the Top 5 channels list in their respective segments in the English entertainment genre, according to BARC all-India data for week 26.

    English Entertainment

    Zee Cafe climbed to the number one position pushing the leader Comedy Central to the second position with 411 Impressions (000s) sum and 374 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. 

    AXN and Star World with 231 and 173 Impressions (000s) sum respectively retained their third and fourth positions. Colors Infinity SD entered the Top 5 list with 134 Impressions (000s) sum.

    English movies

    Sony Pix retained the numero uno position in the English movies genre with 3235 Impressions (000s) sum. Movies Now and Star Movies with 3025 and 2998 Impressions (000s) sum this week retained their respective second and third positions. 

    Movies Now 2 with 2930 Impressions (000s) sum sat pretty at the fourth position. HBO made an entry in the Top 5 channels’ list.

    Infotainment

    History TV 18 retained it first position with 4606 Impressions (000s) sum. Discovery Channel and Nat Geo Wild with 4529 and 2622 Impressions (000s) sum sat pretty at the second and third positions, respectively. National Geographic and Animal Planet with 2557 and 2294 Impressions (000s) sum also retained theirs fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz, witnessing a slight fall in the ratings, lead the genre with 1239 Impressions (000s) sum. Fox Life and TLC interchanged their positions and are now at the second and fourth positions with 845 and 651 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. 

    Food Food grabbed the third position with 758 Impressions (000s) sum. FYI TV18 took fifth position with 543 Impressions(000s) sum.

  • Comedy Central tops Eng Ent & Zee Studio enters Top 5

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central emerged as the leader in the English general entertainment channel (GEC) genre with 431 Impressions (000s) and pushed Zee Cafe to the second position with 378 Impressions (000s) in week 25 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all-India data. 

    AXN and Star World retained their respective positions at third and fourth slots with 145 Impressions (000s) Sum and 103 Impressions (000s) Sum. Star World HD bagged the fifth slot with 103 Impressions (000s) Sum in week 25 whereas Colors Infinity SD exited the top five channels’ list.

    English Movies

    Sony Pix continued to lead the English movie genre with a rise in ratings. The channel registered  3719 Impressions (000s) Sum. Movies Now bagged the second slot with 2950 Impressions (000s) Sum followed by Star Movies on the third spot with 2518 Impressions (000s) Sum and Movies Now 2 climbed to number four with 1909 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    In week 25, Zee Studio entered the top five channels’ list with 1513 Impressions (000s) Sum while HBO exited.

    Infotainment

    Infotainment genre this week has not witnessed any change in the ranking order but all the channels garnered higher ratings than the previous week.  History TV18 topped the chart with 4793 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Discovery Channel secured the second position with 4391 Impressions (000s) Sum and Nat Geo Wild stood at number three with 2537 Impressions (000s) Sum. National Geographic channel retained its fourth slot with 2537 impressions (000s) and Animal Planet bagged the fifth spot with 2281 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Lifestyle

    In the lifestyle section, Living Foodz pocketed the first position with 1539 Impressions (000s) Sum. TLC retained its second position with 828 impressions (000s) Sum. Food Food jumped two slots to the third position with 806 Impressions (000s) Sum.

    Fox Life retained its fourth slot with 722 Impressions (000s) and FYI TV 18 slipped to the fifth position this week and registered  563 Impressions (000s) Sum.

  • Zee Cafe targets 20-40-yr-olds with BBC First drama

    MUMBAI: Zee’s English entertainment channel Zee Café has partnered with BBC Worldwide to bring award-winning premium British drama to its audience. Starting from 26 June, the channel will host BBC First content block with 11 new shows set to air every weeknight at 10pm time slot.

    The channel has an ongoing deal with BBC for two years. For the Indian audience, the channel will bring another set of 16 British shows shortly.

    The new line-up of shows on Zee Café, the main sponsor of which is Nexa , includes: War & Peace, Fleming: The Man who would be Bond, Class, SS-GB, Maigret, Doctor Foster, Top of the Lake, The Kettering Incident, New Blood, From Darkness and Thirteen.

    Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) Premium and FTA GEC business cluster head Aparna Bhosle said, “I will go with my gut feeling. I have lived in this country and I have seen this kind of content and I believe it’s going to work. You will not know unless you try it out. So, it’s a gut call.” “At the launch, we are starting with 11 shows, and around October, we are planning to launch another 16 new shows.”

    Speaking about the target audience, she mentioned that Zee Cafe’s high viewership comes from mega metros. “The 7-9pm prime time is working for the channel,” she added.

    “For a brand, the starting point is: what do you want to stand for. We launched the channel with the tagline ‘All Eyes On New’. Viewers of this genre are seeking more content. If we look at English GEC, it is largely American content. It’s a great fit for the brand, and we think that consumer will love it,” ZEEL domestic broadcast business CEO Punit Misra said.

    Zee Cafe’s marketing campaign will be largely run on digital platforms and the network’s channels. “The campaign will be focussed on big towns as the main viewership comes from those markets, according to measurement system. As English content viewing in India is rising day by day, 20-40 age-group in large towns, we think, will consume this kind of content,” Misra added.

    “We are delighted that Zee Café is bringing BBC First to India, which will bring the best of British creativity to an appreciative audience. This is a curation of critically acclaimed and award-winning original British drama, that will challenge perceptions though surprising storylines and unforgettable characters,” commented BBC Worldwide director – global brands and content marketing Julia Kenyon. “BBC First has been successful in countries where it has already launched, across Australia, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. We look forward to connecting with the Indian audience who know and enjoy premium drama,” she added.

    From compelling narratives to awe-inspiring characters, viewers will get to explore a rich & diverse variety of content. Not just that, they will also get to see versatile actors such as Rowan Atkinson popularly known as Mr. Bean, Dominic Cooper, Sam Riley, Kate Bosworth, Lily James and many more in the BBC First block.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central HD slipped to the second slot with 219 impressions (000s) sum this week as compared to 277 impressions (000s) sum last week. FX climbed a slot and reached the third rank this week with 203 weekly impressions (000s) as compared to 139 impressions (000s) sum last week.

    While Star World bagged the third slot this week with 187 impressions (000s) sum, Colors Infinity SD, which was at the fifth rank last week, exited the Top 5 channels’ list this week. AXN slipped to the fifth position this week with 149 impressions (000s) sum from the third position last week with 179 impressions (000s) sum.

    English Movies

    Movies Now climbed a slot to the first position with 4122 impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 2201 impressions (000s) sum. Sony Pix also jumped a slot to the second position this week with 2685 impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 1974 impressions (000s) sum.

    Star Movies slipped two slots to the third position with 2295 impressions (000s) sum against last week’s 3253 impressions (000s) sum.

    Movies Now 2 retained its fourth position this week with a decreased 1924 impressions (000s) sum from last week’s 1970 impressions (000s) sum and HBO too stayed put at the fifth position with a reduced 1569 impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 1962 impressions (000s) sum.

    Infotainment

    Discovery Channel jumped a slot to gain the first position this week with 4096 impressions (000s) sum against last week’s 3724 impressions (000s) sum dislodging History TV18 with 4041 impressions (000s) sum.

    National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild and Animal Planet remained at the fourth, fifth and sixth positions, respectively, with 2843, 2374 and 2288 impressions (000s) sum against last week’s 2631, 2614 and 2600 impressions (000s) sum.

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz dethroned the leader FYI TV18 with 1500 impressions (000s) sum climbing a slot from the last week’s with 1273 impressions (000s) sum. FYI TV18 slipped to the second spot with 1060 impressions (000s) sum against last week’s 1452 impressions (000s) sum.

    Food Food maintained its third position with 787 impressions (000s) sum against 736 impressions (000s) sum last week. TLC jumped a slot with 695  impressions (000s) sum this week from the fifth position with 524 impressions (000s) sum.

    Fox Life slipped a slot to the fifth position with 628 impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 524 impressions (000s) sum.

    As the Diwali fireworks light up the night sky, viewers will get to amplify this year’s Diwali bonanza. After perusing the available options on channels like Colors Infinity, Comedy Central, Movies Now, Romedy Now, Sony Pix, Zee Café, Zee Studio and VH1, Indiantelevision.com recommends a few shows that viewers can gape at this festive season.

    Colors Infinity

    While everyone indulges in some quintessential Diwali rituals of playing cards and eating King-size meals, the channel will air Queen Helena, played by Elizabeth Hurley, along with Princess Eleanor and Prince Liam starrer The Royals. The viewers can binge-watch the season 1 and season 2 on 29 October and 30 October 10:30 am onwards.

    Comedy Central

    Comedy Central is all set to light up the weekend with an unconventional and amusingly opinionated family of the Carmichaels! The channel will air The Carmichaels Show on 29 and 30 October 4 pm onwards.

    Movies Now

    The channel plans to showcase special properties this Diwali, called Fireworks and Boom Boom Blast. Fireworks began from 24 October and will air movies at 9 pm. The line-up of movies includes Dracula Untold, Fast Five, 2012, Godzilla, Edge Of Tomorrow & Furious 6.

    The other property which started from 3 October ended on 28 October which showcased movies like, Into The Storm, The Darkest Hour, Godzilla, Spiderman 2 and Olympus Has Fallen.

    Romedy Now

    The channel is set to broadcast a new property called Diwali Delights. In this property, popular titled like, The Duff, What if, We’re the Millers, About Time, A Little Bit of Heaven, Blended, Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Endless Love, Begin Again, Cuban Fury, etc will be aired from 24 October to 4 November every Monday to Friday at 11 pm. 

    Sony Pix

    The channel will air Pitch Perfect 2 at 12:59 pm followed by the Lone Ranger at 3:13 pm. Battleship will be aired at 6:12 pm, followed by Pitch Perfect 2 at 8:59 pm. King Kong will telecast at 11:24 pm.

    Zee Café

    The channel will usher into the festivities by 12 am with The Whispers show till 4:45 am followed by America’s Got Talent till 6:15 am. Post that, an hour of Just for Laughs followed by Lethal Weapon up to 9 am. The Big Bang Theory will air till 9:30 am leading to back-to-back episodes of Mysteries of Laura till 12 pm.  Pretty Little Liars will air till 6 pm followed by Lethal Weapon and The Big Bang Theory. The channel will air The Shannara Chronicles at 8pm, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders at 9 pm, Code Black at 10 pm, The Real O’Neals at 11 pm and Two & a Half Men at 11:30 pm. 

    Zee Studio

    Zee Studio is all set to air Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol on 30 October at 4:20 pm followed by The Expendables 2 at 7 pm. The Amazing Spiderman 2 will air at 9 pm whereas Transformers: Age of Extinction will telecast at 11:50 pm.

    Vh1

    Celebrate this Diwali with the Vh1 One in a Billion– Diwali Special. Viewers can watch some of the best music videos that have achieved the milestone of having over a billion views in the digital world. The property will telecast on 31 October at 12 pm and 8 pm.
