    Zee Café, BBC Worldwide launch second season of premium British dramas

    MUMBAI: Zee Cafe has partnered with BBC Worldwide to once again entertain Indian audiences with premium British dramas.

    Starting 16 July 2018, the channel will host the second edition of the BBC First content block featuring 12 shows, weeknights at 10 pm.

    Speaking to Indiantelevision.com, ZEEL business cluster head – premium channels Aparna Bhosle says,“After the phenomenal response to the BBC First content block last year, we are thrilled to bring the best of British dramas once again for our audiences in association with BBC Worldwide. Our research found out that 90-94 per cent of the content in the English space was from the US, hence through this alliance we wish to bridge the gap and cater to the need for great stories with superior quality British dramas.”

    For the first season, the shows were not available for the digital platforms, but for the second season the channel is planning to add some of the shows to the Zee5 library. The second season of the shows like Doctor Foster, Maigret and Top Of The Lake will be there on ZEEL’s digital arm because its first season was showcased last year.

    Talking about the response of season one last year, she says, “For the first season at the 10 pm slot, the GTVTs went up to 600 per cent and the time spent doubled from three minutes to 6.3 minutes. In terms of performance, the time band worked very well, increasing the channel’s reach by 26 per cent and added one lakh additional viewers.”

    Brands like Domino’s, Brookside, L’Oreal, Philips and Vicks dominate the band. The exciting line-up of shows include Doctor Foster Season 2, Top Of The Lake Season 2, Maigret Season 2, Paula, Wolf Hall, Unforgotten, Broken, In The Dark, Burton and Taylor, The Inceptor, Born to Kill and The Collection. 

    In terms of total revenue, the channel has exceeded the season one numbers, according to Bhosle.

    Keeping in line with its proposition, Zee Café has chalked out a robust marketing campaign #GreatBritainGreatStories. The channel will be engaging its viewers through high impact out-of-home, print and digital mediums across key three mega cities which are Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

The series follows the tru-ish misadventures of the 45th President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, and his merry band of advisors and family members. Created and Executive Produced by multiple Emmy® winner Stephen Colbert, ‘Our Cartoon President’ premieres on 4th July, weeknights at 8.30 only on Zee Cafe.

    The new 10-episode parody Our Cartoon President examines the quintessentially Trumpian details of the presidency and his most important relationships, and no one is safe – from his close family and confidants to key political figures from both parties and members of the media. In this parallel cartoon universe, the Commander-in-Chief opens the White House doors for an “all access” look at a typical day in the life of the President of the United States. Zee Café, one of the leading general English entertainment channels, is all set to premiere an exciting new American reality television series, The Toy Box with kids seated at the judges’ panel. Hosted by award winning star, Eric Stonestreet, the show is an ultimate competition series providing talented designers with an opportunity to bring their toy concepts to life.     MUMBAI: Sony Pix climbs to the top spot from the third position in the English movies genre with a hike in ratings for Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) week 47 all India ratings. Star Movies drops a slot from its pole position. Comedy Central stays on top in the English entertainment genre. Zee Cafe climbs two spots to the second position. In English movies genre, MNX drops two slots to the fourth position.

    English Movies

    Sony Pix tops the chart with 3134 impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 2556 impressions (000s) sum. Sony Pix was on top in week 31 with 3100 impressions (000s) sum last time. Star Movies drops a slot to the second position with 3001 impressions (000s) sum compared to last week’s 3304 impressions (000s) sum. Movies Now climbs a spot to the third position with a slight increase in ratings with 2540 impressions (000s) sum. MNX, with a big drop, comes to the fourth position from second with 2150 impressions (000s) sum. HBO sits at fifth position with 1564 impressions (000s) sum.

    Top shows in the genre were Jurassic Park on Movies Now followed by Apocalypto on Sony Six.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central, with a slight increase in ratings, comfortably sits at the top slot with 421 impressions (000s) sum. Zee Cafe climbs two slots to the second position with 347 impressions (000s) sum followed by Colors Infinity SD with 232 impressions (000s) sum. Star World, witnessing a deep fall in ratings, drops two slots to the fourth position with 194 impressions (000s) sum as compared to 328 impressions (000s) sum last week. AXN stays in the fifth position with 153 impressions (000s) sum.

    MUMBAI: Comedy Central retained its leadership despite a fall in the ratings in the English entertainment genre according to all-India BARC week 43 data. Movies Now emerged as the leader in the English movies genre.

    Sony BBC Earth made an entry in the top five infotainment channels’ list while Nat Geo Wild dropped out of the list.

    English Entertainment

    Comedy Central and Zee Cafe retained their first and second positions with 284 Impressions (000s) sum and 253 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    Star World and Colors Infinity SD placed third and fourth with 249 Impressions (000s) sum and 186 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    AXN retains its last position with a slight dip in the ratings with 125 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 135 Impressions (000s) sum.

    English Movies

    Movies Now sits on top position with 2839 Impressions (000s) sum. Star Movies slips to the second position with 2810 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Sony Pix and MNX stood third and fourth in this week with 2747 Impressions (000s) sum and 2585 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    HBO retained its fifth position with 1904 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Infotainment

    Discovery channel and History TV 18 retained their first and second positions with 3699 Impressions (000s) sum and 3334 Impressions (000s) sum respectively.

    National Geographic Channel and Animal Planet replaced their third and fourth respectively with 2798 Impressions (000s) sum and 2781 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Sony BBC Earth emerged as a new entrant in the last position with 2611 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Living Foodz, Fox Life, FYI TV18, TLC and Food Food retained their first, second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively with 1361 Impressions (000s) sum, 848 Impressions (000s) sum, 764 Impressions (000s) sum 467 Impressions (000s) sum and 435 Impressions (000s) sum.

    MUMBAI: With the Diwali line-up coming to an end and Halloween just around the corner, English GEC channel Zee Cafe is planning to premiere an animated special featuring the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

    Michael Jackson’s Halloween, an hour long special will include the legendary popstar’s extensive discography as its soundtrack.

    In line with the channel’s promise of ‘All Eyes On New’, the Halloween special will make its Indian television premiere on 29 October at 1pm and 9pm on Zee Café and also a simulcast on Zee Studio at 1pm.

    In the US, CBS TV network will telecast Michael Jackson’s Halloween on 27 October.

    Produced by The Michael Jackson Estate, ‘Michael Jackson’s Halloween’ follows millennials Vincent and Victoria who ‘accidentally’ meet on Halloween night and find themselves, along with Ichabod the dog, at a mysterious hotel located at 777 Jackson Street called This Place Hotel. Once inside, Vincent and Victoria go on an unexpected, magical adventure of personal discovery which culminates in a spectacular Thriller dance finale starring the iconic popstar himself.

    The special boasts of a star-studded cast of voice talents with Lucas Till and Kiersey Clemons voicing the lead characters Vincent and Victoria respectively.     The movie chronicles the life of Ray Kroc, the entrepreneur who gave the world McDonald’s. It narrates his journey as a salesman who took a small burger joint in San Bernardino, California, franchised it around the country and turned it into the McDonald’s Corporation that we know today.

    Zee Café’s new Rated ‘H’ shows to captivate millennials (updated)

    MUMBAI: Zee Café viewers can expect fresh entertainment in its upcoming slot Hollywood on Café from 16 October. 5 new drama series – The Young Pope, Taboo, 11.22.63, The Son and Guerrilla – will air from Monday to Friday at 9 pm.

    These new shows are a part of its new concept called ‘Rated H’, where TV shows are made with Hollywood-scale budgets, with intriguing, refined and compelling narratives, and provide a unique and extremely premium experience. Hollywood names like Tom Hardy, Jude Law, Pierce Brosnan, Idris Elba and James Franco will be the highlight of the shows.

    Despite other broadcasters leaning towards the digital medium, Zee Café still considers TV as the king of content. Considering the Year-to-date ratings from April, the channel claims to have maintained its top position.

    ZEEL business cluster head-premium and FTA-GEC channels Aparna Bhosle says, “The English entertainment sector, which has a market of Rs 3.5–4,5 billion, has always been niche and exposing more people to the content will help in its expansion. To stay true to our tagline of ‘All Eyes On You’, we must keep engaging our audience with new shows.”

    The section targets discerning millennials who crave scale and quality. An all-round marketing plan, while keeping in mind the scale of the shows and unconventional storylines, has been adopted. Advertisers on board include Renault Captur, Blender’s Pride Fashion Tour Music CDs, Nokia Smartphones and Engage Perfume Spray. “Zeel has an ongoing outdoor marketing deal with the airports authority (of India – AAI) at its Mumbai and Delhi locations,” Bhosle said.

    The 5 drama series are:
    The Young Pope is an English-language Italian drama television series created and directed by Paolo Sorrentino. The series stars Jude Law and Diane Keaton. It was co-produced by European production companies Wildside, Haut et Court TV, and Mediapro. It has only one season with 10 episodes in it and the runtime is 46-60 minutes. It will air on Mondays at 9 PM.

    The Son is an American drama television series of 10 episodes based on the 2013 book of the same name by Philipp Meyer. The show was created and developed by Meyer, Brian McGreevy, and Lee Shipman. The runtime is 42- 49 minutes. On May 12, 2017, the series was renewed for a second season. It will air on Tuesdays at 9 PM.

    Taboo is a British television drama programme produced by Scott Free London and Hardy Son & Baker. It was created by Steven Knight, Tom Hardy, and his father, Edward Hardy, and is based on a story written by Tom and Edward Hardy. The eight-part series, set in 1814, begins with James Delaney (Tom Hardy) returning to England after spending twelve years in Africa with fourteen stolen diamonds, following the death of his father and when the war with the United States was nearing its end. The runtime of the series is 55-57 minutes. Taboo will air Thursdays at 9 PM

    11.22.63 is an American science fiction thriller mini-series based on the book 11/22/63 by Stephen King, and consisting of eight episodes. The series is executive-produced by J. J. Abrams, King, Bridget Carpenter and Bryan Burk, and produced by James Franco, who also has the main role. The production companies involved are Bad Robot Productions and Warner Bros. Television. The runtime of the series is 44-81 minutes. 11.22.63 premieres 18 October, Wednesdays at 9 PM.

    Guerrilla is a six-part British drama mini-series set in early 1970s London, against the backdrop of the Immigration Act 1971 and British black power movements such as the British Black Panthers and Race Today Collective. It was written and directed by John Ridley and stars Idris Elba, Freida Pinto and Babou Ceesay in leading roles. The production company is ABC Signature studios. The runtime is 60 minutes. Guerrilla premieres 20 October, Fridays at 9 PM.

    Out of the five, the channel has digital rights for The Young Pope, Taboo and Guerrilla.

    MUMBAI: Colors Infinity SD topped the English entertainment, according to all-India BARC week 38 data. Zee Cafe slipped badly and MNX climbed in the English movies genre. 

    Discovery Channel emerged as the leader this week dethroning History TV18. TLC made an entry in the Top 5 lifestyle channels’ list while NDTV Good Times dropped out of the list.

    English Entertainment

    Colors Infinity SD climbed two slots to the top position with 232 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 196 Impressions (000s) sum last week. Star World jumped to the second slot with 226 Impressions (000s) sum from the fourth position in the previous week. 

    Comedy Central slipped a slot to the third position with a slight fall in the ratings from 306 Impressions (000s) sum to 222 Impressions (000s) sum this week. Zee Cafe slipped to the fourth position from the top last week witnessing a major fall in the ratings from 315 Impressions (000s) sum to 183 Impressions (000s) sum. AXN sat at the same fifth position as last week’s.

    English Movies

    Movies Now sat at the top position with a clear difference from its closest competitor Sony PIX as compared to last week’s data with 2822 Impressions (000s) sum and 2820 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. 

    MNX climbed a slot to the third position with a slight increase in ratings from 2274 Impressions (000s) sum to 2666 Impressions (000s) sum. Star Movies slipped a slot to fourth position with 2232 Impressions (000s) sum. HBO sat at the fifth position with 1568 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Infotainment

    Discovery Channel emerged as the leader with 3325 Impressions (000s) sum in the infotainment genre while History TV18 jumped to the second position with 2979 Impressions (000s) sum.

    National Geographic Channel retained its third position with 2594 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 2292 Impressions (000s) sum in the previous week.

    Animal Planet climbed to the fourth position this week with 2553 Impressions (000s) sum from the fifth position in week 37, whereas Nat Geo Wild slipped a slot to the fifth position with 1973 Impressions (000s) sum this week.

    Lifestyle

    Living Foodz with 1560 Impressions (000s) sum retained its leading position, albeit with a fall in the ratings as compared to last week’s 1759 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Fox Life with 1049 Impressions (000s) sum, FYI TV18 with 815 Impressions (000s) sum, Food Food with 542 Impressions (000s) sum retained their respective second, third and fourth positions, but with a fall in ratings as compared to the last week.

    TLC made an entry in the top 5 list with 541 Impressions (000s) sum replacing NDTV Good Times which occupied the position in the previous week.
