    Subhash Chandra resigns; R K Arora appointed as Zee Media CEO

    MUMBAI: Subhash Chandra has stepped down from the post of director and non-executive chairman of Zee Media. According to a report on BSE, Zee Media announced that its board meeting held on 24 May took on record the resignation of Dr. Subhash Chandra as director and non-executive chairman of the company with effect from 24 May.

    With this announcement, R K Arora has been appointed as the CEO as an additional director of the company with immediate effect.

    Zee Media has a lavish portfolio of news channels under it which includes Zee News, Zee Business, India 24×7, Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal, Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Zee 24 Taas, 24 Ghanta, Zee Kalinga News, Zee Purvaiya and Zee Rajasthan News.

    MUMBAI: Subhash Chandra’s Zee Media Corporation Ltd (ZMCL) is targeting to launch its English news channel in the first quarter of the next financial year (April – June 2016).

    A senior ZMCL executive tells Indiantelevision.com that while the name of the channel has not yet been decided, the recruitment has already started. “We are building a team, which in the long run will turn out to be a formidable one,” the executive says.

    As a first step in recruitment, ZMCL has already got on board Rohit Gandhi as editor-in-chief (English News and Current Affairs) to steer the proceedings.

    The channel will be distributed globally as a part of the Living Bouquet. “Pay model will be the biggest source of revenue when it comes to global market, but initially in India, we will focus on advertising,” informs the executive.

    The English news channel will produce content, which will cater to the global audience.

    Zee’s English news channel will be totally different from its existing Hindi news channel Zee News, which caters to the Hindi Speaking Market (HSM). “We are creating an entirely new infrastructure and putting up new studios for the new channel. It will be under ZMCL but totally separate from Zee News both in terms of operations as well as editorial,” asserts the executive.

    Currently, ZMCL has in its portfolio three national channels Zee News (Hindi News), India 24X7, and Zee Business. In addition, its regional news channels’ portfolio comprises Zee Marathi, Zee Madhya Pradesh / Chhattisgarh, Zee Rajasthan, Zee Punjab Haryana / Himachal and Zee Kalinga (Odisha). The company also operates two regional news channels through its subsidiaries namely 24 Ghanta (Bengali) through Zee Akaash News Pvt Ltd and Maurya TV (Bihar & Jharkhand) through Maurya TV Private Limited.

    MUMBAI: In week 7 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India, Times Now continued to dominate the English news genre while in the Business news genre, ET Now retained its numero uno slot with an increase in ratings.

    On the other hand, Aaj Tak led the Hindi news genre, whereas even after a decline in ratings CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the Hindi business news genre. 

    English News

    Times Now with an increase in ratings remained as the undisputed leader in the English news space with 563 (‘000s) as against 404 (‘000s) in week 6. India Today Television took the second spot with 243 (‘000s). NDTV 24×7 with 223 (‘000s) and CNN IBN with 149 (‘000s) grabbed the third and the fourth positions respectively.

    News 9 continued to maintain its place in the fifth slot with 131 (‘000s).

    English Business News

    ET Now continued to lead the English business news genre with 273 (‘000s) followed by CNBC TV18 with 223 (‘000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime with 78 (‘000s) were in the third place, whereas Bloomberg TV with 11 (‘000s) grabbed the fourth position.

    Hindi News

    With a fall in ratings Aaj Tak with 77193 (‘000s) continued to dominate the space while India TV at 69739 (‘000s) with an increase in ratings stood in the second position. ABP News jumped to the number three position with 56051 (‘000s) followed by Zee News with 52604 (‘000s) in fourth place. India News fell from the third spot to number five this week with 49608 (‘000s)

    Hindi Business News

    Even after witnessing a slide in ratings CNBC Awaaz garnered the first position in the genre with 1294 (‘000s) as against 1790 (‘000s) in week 6. Zee Business with 940 (‘000s) stood at number two.

    BARC week 49: CNBC TV 18 is No. 1 in English Business News genre

    MUMBAI: ’Twas the week of new leaders! In the English Business News genre, CNBC TV 18 toppled the numero uno channel ET Now to become the No 1 channel in week 49 according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) All India (U+R) (Excluding Tamil Nadu/Puducherry) : NCCS AB : Males 22+ Individuals.

     

    On the other hand, English News channel Times Now saw downfall in ratings but continued to rule the genre.

     

    In the Hindi news segment, Aaj Tak continues to lead the genre, while CNBC Awaaz maintained its leadership position in the Hindi Business News section in week 49.

     

    English News

     

    Times Now saw a drop in ratings but secured its leadership position with 322 (000Sums) as against 471 (000Sums) in week 48 followed by NDTV 24X7 in the second spot with 237 (000Sums), which was number three last week. On the other hand, India Today Television climbed up at number three with 219 (000Sums). 

     

    CNN-IBN dropped to number four with 201 (000Sums), while News 9 with 159 (000Sums) bagged the fifth spot.

     

    English Business News

     

    CNBC TV18 replaced the leader in Business News genre ET Now and grabbed first position with 205 (000Sums). ET Now was in second position with 172 (000Sums), whereas NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime were in the third slot with 70 (000Sums). Bloomberg TV stood at number four with 10 (000Sums). Pertinent to note here is that these numbers are excluding data from the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry markets.

     

    Hindi News

     

    In week 49, Aaj Tak witnessed a fall in ratings but grabbed leadership position with 73666 (000Sums) against 81828 (000Sums) in week 48. India TV bagged second position with 58748 (000Sums) followed by ABP News in the third place with 55667 (000Sums) and News Nation in the fourth slot with 48768 (000Sums). Zee News stood at number five with 46571 (000Sums).

     
    Hindi Business News 

     

    CNBC Awaaz continued as the leader in the genre and was firmly perched in the first position with 1110 (000Sums) followed by Zee Business in the second spot with 876 (000Sums).

    MUMBAI: Times Now continues to dominate the English news genre while Aaj Tak secured the leadership position in Hindi news genre.  ET Now continues to lead the English business news genre. Zee Business emerged as the number one channel in Hindi business news channel. Ten Sports secured the leadership position in the sports genre in week 46, according to the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India all India (U + R) data.

     

    English News

     

    Times Now continues to lead the English news genre with 558 (000Sums) followed by NDTV 24×7 with 304 (000Sums) on second spot and CNN IBN on third with 303 (000Sums).  Indian Today Television and News 9 bagged the fourth and fifth berth with 215 (000Sums) and 212 (000Sums) respectively.

     

    Hindi News

     

    Aaj Tak continues to lead the Hindi news genre with 80873 (000Sums) followed by India TV with 70194(000Sums) on second spot and Zee News on third with 61343(000Sums).  ABP News and News Nation bagged the fourth and fifth berth with 59261 (000Sums) and 57997 (000Sums) respectively.

     

    English Business News

     

    ET Now continues to lead the genre with 381 (000Sums) followed by CNBC TV 18 with 250 (000Sums) on second berth and NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime on third with 151 (000Sums). Bloomberg TV stood at number four with 30 (000Sums).

     

    Hindi Business News

     

    Zee Business garnered the pole position with 1125 (000Sums) followed by CNBC Awaaz with 1060 (000Sums) on second spot.  

     

    Sports

     

    In week 46 of BARC data, Ten Sports continues to led the genre with 99493(000Sums), followed by Star Sports 3 with 73800 (000Sums) in second spot and Star Sports 1 61395 (000Sums) in third place. Ten Cricket grabbed the fourth spot with 34727 (000Sums) and Star Sports 2 held the fifth berth with 34243

    MUMBAI: Zee Business climbed up to number one spot in the Hindi business channels genre in the All India (U+R) market according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India week 45 ratings. In the Hindi News genre, Aaj Tak sustained its position as leader. BBC world News entered the top five list in its genre.

    In the English News category, Times Now continued to be the undisputed leader. ET Now also continued its leadership position in English Business News genre.

    Aaj Tak secured the first place in Hindi news genre with 93917 (000Sums) followed by ABP News which bagged second spot with 89022 (000Sums). India TV slipped to   third berth with 83345 (000Sums), whereas News Nation with 67642 (000Sums) and Zee News with 65510 (000Sums) grabbed the fourth and fifth spots respectively. 

     

    ENGLISH NEWS
     
    Times Now garnered maximum ratings in the genre and continued to be at the pole position with 973 (000Sums) followed by NDTV 24×7  at second position with 467 (000Sums). CNN IBN fell to the third position with 456 (000Sums). India Today Television saw an increase in ratings, though it continued to hold the fourth place with 280 (000Sums) against 152(000Sums) in the previous week. BBC News entered the top five with 174(000Sums) 

     

    HINDI BUSINESS NEWS
     
    Like last week, in the Hindi business news genre, Zee Business regained first spot with 1185 (000Sums) followed by CNBC Awaaz in second slot with 939 (000Sums). 

     

    ENGLISH BUSINESS NEWS
     
    In the English business news channels, ET Now continued to dominate the genre with 273 (000Sums) followed by CNBC TV18 with 231 (000Sums) in the second spot. NDTV Profit & Prime in the third slot scored 91 (000Sums), while Bloomberg TV secured fourth place with 30(000Sums) in week 45.

    MUMBAI: Times Now continued to dominate in the English news channels genre in the All India (U+R) market according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data for week 41. In the Hindi news segment, Aaj Tak led the genre.

     

    On the other hand, Times Network’s ET Now topped the English business news channels genre, whereas Zee Business secured the leadership position in the Hindi business news channels genre.

     

    ENGLISH NEWS

    Times Now maintained its leadership and garnered first spot with 560 (000Sums) followed by CNN IBN at 233 (000Sums). India Today Television garnered third position with 202 (000Sums) and NDTV 24×7 held the fourth place with 183 (000Sums). News 9 in the fifth slot scored 156 (000Sums) in week 41 All India (U+R).

     

    In week 40 (C&S 1 lakh), the pecking order was as follows: Times Now in first spot, India Today Television in second and CNN IBN in the third position.

     

    HINDI NEWS

    Aaj Tak secured the first place in Hindi news genre with 72067 (000Sums) followed by India TV in the second spot, which scored 69694 (000Sums). ABP News secured the third berth with 65005 (000Sums), whereas News Nation with 62737 (000Sums) and Zee News with 50239 (000Sums) bagged the fourth and fifth place respectively in week 41 All India (U+R).

     

    In week 40 (C&S 1 lakh), India TV was at the top spot, followed by Zee News and Aaj Tak in second and third spot respectively.

     

    ENGLISH BUSINESS NEWS

    In the top four English business news channels, ET Now continued to lead the genre with 484 (000Sums) followed by CNBC TV 18 with 368 (000Sums) in the second spot. NDTV Profit & NDTV Prime in the third slot scored 108 (000Sums), whereas Bloomberg TV secured fourth place with 38 (000Sums) in week 41 All India (U+R).

     

    In week 40 (C&S 1 lakh), CNBC TV 18 led the genre, followed by ET Now in the second spot and NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime in the third place.

     

    HINDI BUSINESS NEWS

    In the Hindi business news genre, Zee Business bagged the first spot with 1099 (000Sums) followed by CNBC Awaaz in second slot with 949 (000Sums) in week 41 All India (U+R).

     

    Incidentally, in week 40 (C&S 1 lakh), CNBC Awaaz led the pack and was followed by Zee Business in the second spot.
