    Zee Anmol Cinema to launch on DD Freedish

    MUMBAI: Free to air (FTA) is the new buzzword in television, especially considering how well the non-pay TV channels are doing. Adding another one to its channel cluster is Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL). It is to soon launch its new FTA Hindi movie channel, Zee Anmol Cinema on Doordarshan’s free direct-to-home (DTH) platform DD Direct service Free Dish. It is set to replace Zee Premiere which is currently beaming on Channel No. 70 from 1 Septmeber.

    Confirming its launch, ZEEL chief business officer Sunil Buch said, “The current increasing share of viewership in rural India gives us the scope of further expanding Zee’s presence in HSM markets. Launching Zee Anmol Cinema also makes for an interesting challenge as the FTA Hindi movie genre already has several strong players in a dynamic and ever-changing environment. We will share more details soon.”

    BARC Week 33: Pay TV channels declines in ratings

    MUMBAI: The standout of week 33 was the fall in ratings for all the major pay TV Hindi general entertainment channels, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all India data.

    Other noteworthy changes were: Big Magic exited the Rural HSM top ten channels list and Sab TV came in at number 10.  

    Urban + Rural HSM

    Star Plus continued as the  undisputed leader in the general entertainment channel genre even after a fall in ratings with 668069 Impressions (000s) as against 691536 Impressions (000). Star Utsav too witnessed a fall but maintained its position at number two with 549545 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee TV at third  position with 542520 Impressions (000s) against 598686 Impressions (000s). Fourth placed Colors generated 508811 Impressions (000s) as against 586734 Impressions (000s).

    Zee Anmol on the fifth spot with 479214 Impressions (000) against 490427 Impressions (000s) and number six was Life OK with 405279 Impressions (000s).

    In week 33, Sony Pal stood at seventh with 401288 Impressions (000s) and SPN’s other channels Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed eight and ninth spot with 375133 Impressions (000s) and 369158 Impressions (000s) respectively.

    Rishtey bagged the tenth spot with 300669 Impressions (000s).

    Rural HSM

    In week 33, Star Utsav maintained its leadership position with 417767 Impressions against 4461095 Impressions (000s) in week 32, followed by Zee Anmol  at second position with 367641 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on the third spot with 309802 Impressions (000s). Zee TV retained its fourth position with 231427 Impressions (000s).

    Rishtey replaced Star Plus on fifth place with 222953 Impressions (000s)  and Star Plus  bagged the sixth spot with 216435 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 151145 Impressions (000s). Life Ok stood at eight with 147949 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television at ninth place with 105116  Impressions (000s) while Sab TV entered the list at tenth spot with 103480 Impressions (000s). Big Magic exited this week.

    Urban HSM

    Star Plus garnered the pole position even after a dip ratings with 451634 Impression (000s)against   475066 Impressions (000s) in week 33 followed by Colors at second place with 357667 Impressions (000s) and Zee TV with 311093 Impressions (000s) stood at number three.

    Sab TV grabbed the fourth spot with 271653 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Entertainment Television  at fifth with 257330 Impressions (000s) and Life Ok with 264041 Impressions (000s).
    In urban HSM,  &TV maintained its number seven position with 159776 Impressions (000s) followed by Star Utsav with 131778 Impressions (000s) on eighth and Zee Anmol bagged ninth spot with 111573 Impressions (000s).  Sony Pal was at tenth with 91486 Impressions (000s).

    Eight TV channels win Freedish slots, bid price goes above Rs 5 cr

    NEW DELHI: Setting a new record of getting for Rs 5.3 crore against the reserve price of Rs 4.3 crore, Doordarshan’s DTH platform Freedish bagged as many as eight new channels in the e-auction held last week.

    The channels that successfully bid for slots are Zee Anmol, Rishtey, Star Utsav, Fight Soirts, B4U Music, APN, Vision TV (Housefull Movies), and India 24×7.

    The reserve price which had been Rs 3.7 crore was raised to its present level for the 25th e-auction in January. indiantelevision.com had learnt that the bid amount went up to Rs 4.7 crore in earlier e-auctions. The reserve price in the 15th e-auction was Rs 3 crore and was raised to Rs 3.7 crore in the 16th auction.

    A senior Doordarshan official told indiantelevision.com that the next auction would be held in September, though the exact date had not yet been finalized.

    The official refused to give the figure at which individual channels won the auction, as the exact amount after various adjustments was not yet clear.

    Freedish – which currently carries eighty TV channels and 23 radio channels –also carries two channels as FTA which are otherwise pay channels – Aajtak and Big TV.

    The official clarified that Freedish will be able to carry more channels as it is shortly going on to MPEG4. While it could carry about sixteen channels per transponder but MPEG 4 allows up to 24 TV channels per transponder, apart from radio channels.

    The official said the Indian conditional access system (iCAS) is being used to keep a tab on the number of subscribers, but it would remain free-to-air.

    The platform at present has space for eighty channels including its own channels and Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha TV and also carrues 24 All India Radio channels.

    The e-Auction was conducted by M/s. C1 India Pvt. Ltd., Noida which also conducted the first stage of the FM Radio Phase III auctions on behalf of Prasar Bharati.

    The participation amount (EMD) in the e-Auction was Rs.1.5 crore which was deposited in advance. Incremental amount for the auction was Rs 10 lakh.

    Of the bid price, Rs 1.1 crore will be deposited within one month of placement and another Rs 1.1 crore within two months along with service tax of 14.5 per cent on the bid amount.

    The balance bid amount will be deposited within six months, failing which the deposited amount will be forfeited and the channel discontinued after a 21-day discontinuation notice.

On the other hand, Star Utsav stayed firm at number one in the rural Hindi speaking market. Also, Star Plus ruled the urban HSM, as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

    Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi general entertainment channel genre with 685886 Impressions (000s) while Zee TV maintained its second position with 611276 Impressions (000s), followed by Colors in third place with 532339 Impressions (000s).

    Star India’s free to air channel Star Utsav grabbed the fourth position with 486363 Impressions (000s) and Zee Anmol got back to its fifth place with 471744 Impressions (000s).

    Life OK stood at sixth with 428199 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Pal at number seven with 403285 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television at number eight with 383937 Impressions (000s). Sab TV on number nine with 369043 Impressions (000s) and Rishtey maintained its tenth spot with 298741 Impressions (000s).

    MUMBAI: Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) genre in Urban+ Rural Hindi speaking market (HSM)  whereas  Zee TV  maintained its position at second slot as per Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India ratings for week 29. On the other hand Star Utsav  emerged as the number one channel in rural HSM, pushing down Zee Anmol, which had ruled the top spot earlier.

    Urban + Rural HSM

    Even after witnessing a fall in ratings, Star Plus continued to lead the Hindi general entertainment channel genre with 696376 Impressions (000s) against 720065 Impressions (000s) in last week while Zee TV maintained its second position with 636898 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors on third spot with 584678 Impressions (000s).

    Star India’s free to air channel Star Utsav grabbed the fourth position with 450259 Impressions (000s) and Life OK was at the fifth slot with 437569 Impressions (000s).

    Zee Anmol stood at sixth with 433515 Impressions (000s) followed by Sony Pal at number seven with 413606 Impressions (000s) and Sony Entertainment Television at number eighth with 359426 Impressions (000s). Sab TV on number nine with 358682 Impressions (000s) and Rishtey maintained its tenth spot with 289896 Impressions (000s).

    In week 29, Star Utsav toppled Zee Anmol and grabbed leadership position with 348824 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee Anmol  at second position with 329641 Impressions (000s) and Sony Pal on third slot with 313911 Impressions (000s). Zee TV maintained its fourth position with 280475 Impressions (000s).

    Star Plus garnered  fifth spot with 218160 Impressions (000s)  while Rishtey grabbed sixth spot with 204803 Impressions (000s) followed by Colors at number seven with 169977 Impressions (000s) and Life Ok which stood at eight with 150327 Impressions (000s).
