  • 8 Reasons to tune in to Indian Premier League 8

8 Reasons to tune in to Indian Premier League 8

MUMBAI: India has Diwali, Christmas and Eid. And then India also has the Indian Premier League (IPL). No other celebration than the IPL can unite a Bengali and a Tamil in the same vein.

In its eighth season now, the sports property has grown by leaps and bounds. It continues to get bigger and better with international participation each passing year.

While India may have lost its mauka at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, this is one celebration where India wins with every new wicket taken and every ball crossing the boundary. As the teams battle on field and Kolkata Knight Riders sets out to pick their trophy once again, Indiantelevision.com gives you eight reasons why you should tune in to the eighth season of India Ka Tyohaar!

Perform or Perish for star players

For players like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh, who missed out on playing at the Cricket World Cup 2015, this is the ultimate chance to prove themselves and set the record straight about their playing capabilities on field. Delhi Daredevils even paid a whopping Rs 16 crore for Yuvraj for this season, making him the highest fetched cricketer. Tales of united sportsmanship that brought teams together during this World Cup will stand divided now, as the battle of the ultimate champions begins during India Ka Tyohaar!

    Think Global, Act Local

The IPL is India’s product and as such should be accessible for all. Official broadcast network Multi Screen Media (MSM) knows that and in this season, it has even decided to launch a brand new channel Sony Kix with IPL feeds in Tamil and Telugu. Its sister channel Sony Aath will ensure Kolkata Knight Riders fans are closer to their champions (And Shah Rukh Khan) with its Bengali feed. Max, again from its stable, will cater to the Hindi speaking audience, while Six will carry the English feed. No one will be a stranger to the IPL season 8!

    WAGs to watch out for

Stuart Binny has Mayanti Langer, M.S Dhoni has Sakshi Dhoni and Kevin Pietersen has his posh spice of cricket, Jessica Taylor! But the star of the pack to watch out from the Wives And Girlfriends (WAGs) list is clearly Anushka Sharma. Post her innocent outing at the World Cup, Virat Kohli will have to really ensure his girlfriend’s oomph factor matches his own on the field. Mitchell Johnson’s celebrity wife Jessica Bratich and Michael Clarke’s Kyly Boldy are other reasons why you should tune in to this season of the IPL!

    Come One, Come All

Fret not if you do not feel a little spendthrift this season. BCCI along with MSM will be treating fans to an exclusive fan park-screening cross 16 cities. The mass screenings are not only free but also come along with fireworks and music display. The experience promises to be one of a kind, treating fans to an experience as similar as the stadiums.

Make in India, play in India

Post its last outing to UAE last season, this season of the IPL will be played exclusively in India. It was then shifted out of the country for some time because of the Lok Sabha General Elections. However, now with Narendra Modi at the helm and his promising ’Make in India’ campaign, the IPL returns to India as the Indian made sports property will be played only in India and its diverse cities.

    Women commentators and Cheer Leaders

Who said cricket was only a gentlemen’s game? Lending their wisdom and knowledge in IPL season 8 will be Anjum Chopra, Isa Guha, Lisa Sthaleker and Melanie Jones, who will be part of the 26-member strong commentary team. And then there will also be the sizzling set of cheer leaders ensuring their moves are in sync with the boys on field.

Remote Mode: Only IPL Season 8

During the seventh season of the IPL, households had tiffs over the remote as the general election was the eyeball grabber. However, post the tamasha and the country already gripped with India’s lost mauka, there is only one reason to settle for the remote: IPL.

IPL season 8 on the Go

No passes? Download Hotstar. Hotstar, which is Star India’s recent digital mammoth app, promises to provide netizens and the tech savvy audience seamless streaming of the IPL. People who are not near a television set can download the app and continue watching the playback continuously in as little as 64 kbps.

  • TV home shopping market to generate Rs 45-50 billion in FYE March 2015: MPA

TV home shopping market to generate Rs 45-50 billion in FYE March 2015: MPA

MUMBAI: India’s retail landscape has changed rapidly in recent years. Owing to increasing disposable incomes and a growing number of nuclear families with evolving lifestyles, the country is experiencing a shift towards organised retail.

Organised players accounted for nine per cent of India’s overall retail trade in 2013. However, the year saw sales from modern retail formats growing slowly.

Rising costs, combined with India’s infrastructure hurdles have prompted retailers to reconsider their expansion plans. This scenario has forced brands to look for newer mediums to distribute their products, especially in areas where modern retail penetration continues to be low. Backed by domestic as well as international investors, e-tailers such as Flipkart and Snapdeal have taken advantage and created a Rs140 billion ($2.3 billion) online retail industry.

In the midst of this marketing blitzkrieg by e-tailers, TV home shopping, an established distribution platform with a much wider reach, has also taken giant strides.

Although much smaller in comparison to the e-tailing industry, the TV home shopping industry has started to effectively leverage the reach of cable and satellite in India, estimated at 140 million households or 650 million people as of December 2014. In comparison, the number of internet users is estimated at 302 million.

The HomeShop18 and Star CJ Revolution

According to a report released by Media Partners Asia (MPA), although the industry has been in existence since the 1990s, most of the earlier TV home shopping companies were restricted to selling religious or unbranded beauty products by purchasing commercial airtime to run infomercials on TV channels. The pre-digitisation era also saw an attempt to launch a dedicated TV home shopping channel – TVC Online. However, it stopped airing within one year of its launch in 2003. Majority of these products failed to meet quality expectations. As a result, consumers grew skeptical of TV home shopping. “Logistical challenges and infrastructural constraints added to the woes of the industry as they resulted in delayed product delivery to customers,” says the MPA report.

However, following the arrival of 24-hour dedicated TV home shopping channels, there has been a turnaround.

HomeShop18 and Star CJ launched in 2008 and 2009 respectively, focusing on building customer trust by:

    · Ensuring high quality products;

    · Creating technology enabled delivery and logistics networks;

    · Establishing 24/7 multi-lingual customer service support centers.

As the industry’s credibility rose, brands such as Samsung and Videocon started utilising the services of TV shopping players. In addition, leading service brands such as Bajaj Allianz and ICICI Lombard have also experimented with the platform. Since its inception, HomeShop18 has fulfilled over 20 million orders, having served more than 11 million customers, while Star CJ has catered to six million customers since launch.

    Industry Dynamics and Business Models

The success of these two channels has encouraged more players to enter the market. Naaptol, which started as an e-commerce platform, has recently launched Blue, a 24-hour dedicated TV channel. In addition, the company has partnered with multi system operator (MSO) Hathway Cable & Datacom to launch Hathway Shopee, which is exclusively available on the MSO’s digital platform.

Similarly, another MSO Den Networks has entered into a 50:50 JV with Snapdeal to launch Den-Snapdeal TV Shop, the pilot for which launched in September 2014. Other key players include Planet M Shopping, HBN Telebrands and TVC Retail.

Growing at 40-50 per cent year on year, the industry, as per MPA, has generated gross merchandise volume (GMV) sales of Rs 32 billion in FYE March 2014. MPA analysis also indicates that the TV home shopping market could generate between Rs 45-50 billion in FYE March 2015. The top three players: HomeShop18, Star CJ and Naaptol, hold the lion share with 85 per cent market share.

Comprising both 24-hour dedicated channels and small and medium-sized firms, which buy independent airtime slots from multiple channels, gross commission revenues are estimated to range between Rs 10-12 billion for FYE March 2014.

On the cost side, while TV home shopping companies pay carriage fees to DTH and cable operators, they also incur airtime charges for slots on TV channels. MPA estimates that while a one-hour midnight slot on GECs costs Rs100,000, news channels charge between Rs 25,000-Rs 50,000.

    Overcoming the hurdles

As is the case with e-tailers, India’s low credit card penetration and poor logistics infrastructure are proving to be the main challenges for TV home shopping players. As consumers in smaller towns are used to a “touch and feel” approach to the product before making payment, about 80 – 95 per cent of TV home shopping sales are driven by cash on delivery (COD). However, logistical difficulties often result in delayed deliveries and consumers refusing to accept delivery. Return rates are as high as 10-20 per cent of total transactions and adversely impact the business economics of TV home shopping companies, according to the MPA report.

To counter last mile delivery challenges, players such as Naaptol and TVC use the services of India Post, which has over 155,000 post offices of which more than 139,000 are in rural areas.

    TV home shopping versus e-tailers

Although e-tailers function on a similar business model, the strategies adopted by TV home shopping players are in stark contrast to their online counterparts.

On an annual basis, TV home shopping players advertise between 3,000-4,000 products with a high majority being private labels and small to mid-scale brands. In comparison, Flipkart and Snapdeal stock over 15 million and five million products, respectively, points out MPA.

“This strategy enables TV home shopping players to command commissions in the range of 30-40 per cent of the sale price, compared to 5-20 per cent for e-tailers,” says the report.

The consumer demographic is also different. With over 80 per cent of TV households having access to pay-TV, majority of the orders originate from smaller towns. In contrast, sales of e-tailers are driven by markets with high English language proficiency and internet penetration.

Comparison with e-tailers on financials and value creation

The MPA report highlights that despite incurring significant losses, most e-tailers are focused on driving valuations through exponential top-line growth. In contrast, TV home shopping firms have delivered balanced growth with profitability. In FYE March 2014, net revenue growth for HomeShop18 was similar to players such as Amazon India and ebay India. Moreover the TV segment for HomeShop18 was also profitable at Rs 150 million for 9M FY 2014.

For the similar period, TVC Retail, which enjoys superior margins for its product profile, reported a net profit growth of 42 per cent year on year. While Star CJ and Naaptol are on the cusp of profitability, even newer players are exhibiting robust growth.

Den-Snapdeal JV has been growing at 200 per cent month-on month and is clocking a GMV of Rs 1 billion. The network expects to cross the Rs 5 billion mark by the end of the first year of operations.

Similarly, Hathway-Naaptol, primarily offering semi-branded products at high margins, is already enjoying an average monthly run-rate of Rs 15 million, since its launch in June 2014.

E-tailer valuations seem justifiable only as a multiple of GMV. However, it is worth noting that their long-tail strategy is highly dependent on a substantial rise in India’s internet penetration.

“Partnering with MSO platforms or TV home shopping players can enable e-tailers to mitigate the risk of slower than expected internet growth. Hence, going forward, more JV deals such as Den-Snapdeal are likely to occur. This will mutually benefit both partners by drawing synergies from their existing businesses,” says the report.

    Becoming future ready

On the back of rising smartphone penetration, global TV home shopping giants such as QVC and HSN have streamlined their m-commerce operations to maximise revenue and profitability.

“Realising that mobile internet, which accounts for 57 per cent of India’s internet users, could drive the next leg of growth, Indian players have followed suit. Although TV continues to account for 70 per cent of its transactions, HomeShop18 has witnessed 100 per cent Q/Q traffic growth on mobile platforms. Similarly, Star CJ expects its mobile website to account for 20 per cent of its transactions in the near future versus 6 per cent at present,” says MPA.

In the meantime, the industry continues to record impressive numbers. Naaptol expects its revenues to increase from Rs 1.65 billion in FYE March 2014 to Rs 3.45 billion in FYE March 2015. “Given that TV home shopping is still in its infancy in India, such trends are likely to continue for the next three – five years,” highlights the report.

The India Today group, recently launched Bag It Today. Business entrepreneur Raj Kundra in partnership with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has launched Best Deal TV, a celebrity driven venture. Targeting a reach of 35-40 million households, the channel will tie-up with celebrities such as Ekta Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and Yuvraj Singh. The celebrities will be signed on a profit sharing model. The channel will start by advertising 30 products from select categories such as lifestyle, home, health, fashion and beauty. Subsequently, it also plans to tap regional markets by roping in local celebrities in Tamil and Telugu markets.

Apart from these, a few regional players are already working towards setting up TV home shopping channels. It might not be long before global home shopping giants and other strategic and financial investors start to enter the market.

  • Star India overcomes obstacles in making World Cup a hit

Star India overcomes obstacles in making World Cup a hit

MUMBAI: Not long ago speculations were drawn that cricket’s biggest tournament may emerge as a super flop in India courtesy Team India’s feeble performances Down Under, the questioned integrity of the sport and odd timings of the matches. Adding to the list of negatives was the absence of Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh. India, after two decades, was playing a World Cup without the master blaster, who is also known as the God of Cricket in India.

However, as is said – where there is a will there is a way.  The young Indian brigade which was was looking like a beaten lot, pulled up their socks and came together as a unit, and lo and behold the magic was back. And that was more than evident from their first match performance against Pakistan. Indian cricket fans – who had been wearing frowns, and had their noses turned up in disgust reading about the legal proceedings in the sports pages –  are now rejoicing, celebrating the Indian team’s going from strength to strength. Adding to their delight have been the stellar batting displays from Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakarra, West Indie’s Chris Gayle, South Africa’s AB De Vlliers, and the tough fights  associate teams have been giving more established national sides. All this has made the tournament a worthy exhibition and created a perfect platform for Star India.

“With India being the defending champions, interest from viewers and advertisers for the World Cup was very positive from the start. We started the World Cup with over 30 sponsors on board and the first India game, against arch rivals Pakistan had 93 advertisers showcasing their brands across digital and TV. In the first two weeks only, the advertiser as well as sponsor count for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup is 50 per cent higher than 2011 edition as well as the IPL. We currently have 38 sponsors across feeds and World Cup programming and over 100 brands advertising during the ongoing World Cup. With India’s strong performances, there is a cricket frenzy through the nation. We have been in talks with more brands for coming on board cricket’s biggest extravaganza, the ICC Cricket World Cup,” says a Star India spokesperson.

The ICC World Cup has opened doors for many first time advertisers and buoyed by the progress so far, there are many brands that are also lining up to the brigade. “For the India – West Indies game we had added hungama.com, Max Life Insurance, Hike, UP Tourism, Reliance Communications and Joy Alukkas as advertisers for the game,” asserts the channel official.

“India stepped into the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 as the defending champions and we at Star have introduced numerous ‘Firsts’ that would bring the entire World Cup experience closer to the fans. These include broadcast in multiple regional languages and first ever global telecast in 4K technology among others. Our efforts have borne fruits as within the first two weeks, 473 million viewers tuned into their television sets to capture the live action of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. As the race for a berth in the quarter-finals heats up, the viewers’ excitement is sure to go through the roof,” says the spokesperson, describing expectations from the tournament.

According to Star, by the beginning of the knock out rounds of World Cup 2015, all the past TV viewership records registered in India by a sporting event, which includes World Cup 2011 and various seasons of Indian Premier League (IPL), have been surpassed.

The World Cup so far has seen an exhibition of sportsman spirit and quality cricket. Speaking to Indiantelevision.com veteran cricket analyst Hemant Kenkre said, “The quality of games this year has been outstanding. We have seen a few mind-blowing individual performances but the team efforts were unbelievable. I know there were a few questions that emerged before the tournament started but no one remembers them now. Now everyone will cheer for team India because the way they have performed so far. Match fixing speculations are nothing new; it was always there since 1999 – 2000. It is just that the country needed good performances from team India and the India VS Pakistan match gave the necessary ignition. The tournament will grow bigger in terms of sponsorship and viewership if India plays well. And I would be highly disappointed if ICC restricts the World Cup to 10 teams. Being associated with the Singapore Cricket Association, I know the hard work the associate teams put and if a championship is restricted to 10 teams then it will disappoint and demotivate all the aspirants.”

Credit should also be given to Star Sports for unveiling up the Mauka campaign. After every India match, the broadcaster has been unleashing a new promo, which engages viewers and starts trending across social media platforms.

Drawing light on the reverberating Mauka campaign, the Star India spokesperson adds, “Cricket is nothing less than a religion in India and nothing is bigger than the ICC Cricket World Cup for millions of cricket fanatics. The Mauka campaign struck the right chord among fans as it portrayed the World Cup from a fan’s lens. The idea was at a human level, it was true, funny and ignited a sense of pride without being nasty to the opponents. The film received great response online and on social media from fans across the two countries. The campaign was promoted across 45 channels including news, movies, regional, films, GEC genre and it has received close to 17 million views online making it the most viewed campaign during the World Cup.”

Depicting the commercial growth of the tournament, Maxus Global managing director Kartik Sharma said, “Typically sporting events start with a certain base expectation, which is dependent on recent performances of the playing teams. The cricket World Cup is no exception to this and people’s expectations were dependent on India’s recent performances. With two very interesting India matches everything has changed and more people are now interested in them. Ad rates are a function of early sponsors and also last minute advertisers who might want to utilise it tactically. Rates reflect recent interest in matches. It’s critical that matches have close finishes, which will fuel the interest of viewers irrespective of which country plays.”

Helios Media managing director Divya Radhakrishnan adds, “The tournament has already made its impression in advertisers’ mind and hence all the speculations that were drawn in the initial stages because of controversies and absence of Sachin Tendulkar have been put to an end.”

Expectations have in fact been surpassed so far with Ireland defeating West Indies and Bangladesh knocking out cricket inventor England. Every cricket lover wants last over finishes and close encounters, and this World Cup so far has offered it. If permutations and combinations are to be believed, India is set to face Bangladesh in the quarter finals and despite having a rough start, Pakistan is also on the verge of securing a quarter final berth. This increases the probability of another Indo-Pak bout, which will be the icing on the cake for both viewers and Star India as it will definitely up the the brand value of the tournament.

  • “IPL 8 will be bigger and better in every aspect including brand valuation”: Rohit Gupta

“IPL 8 will be bigger and better in every aspect including brand valuation”: Rohit Gupta

MUMBAI: The country hasn’t yet recovered from the celebrations of India’s victory over Pakistan in the World Cup and they are being served with another dose of cricketing enthusiasm with Indian Premiere League (IPL). India discard Yuvraj Singh became the highest paid player in 2015 Pepsi IPL players auction as Delhi Daredevils paid Rs 16 crore to earn his services. The multimillionaire league will start on 8 April in Kolkata.

This time round, Multi Screen Media (MSM) will hike the ad rates by 10 – 15 per cent for the league’s matches. Emphasising on the commercial aspect, Multi Screen Media (MSM) president Rohit Gupta tells Indiantelevision.com, “We will have a 10 to 15 per cent hike in the ad rate this time too. We cannot increase the number of advertisers as our inventory follows certain guidelines laid down by the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI).”

Speaking on the eighth edition of IPL, Gupta adds, “IPL has established itself as a stable format now like any other major sporting league in the world. There is not much room for improvisation when it comes to the format of the game. The tournament has seen tough times. Last year IPL was organised in the midst of general elections and everyone thought the viewership will take a blow but the ratings say a different story. The fact that we successfully traveled through all the tough times, proves IPL’s establishment as a mature tournament.”

The tournament starts only 10 days after the World Cup and when questioned about the fatigue factor of viewers and advertisers Gupta replies, “This World Cup is highly different from 2011 edition when the matches were played in the Indian subcontinent. Spectators went to the ground to cheer for the national team. In this edition of the World Cup that’s not happening since the matches are being played in Australia and New Zealand. India has already played against Pakistan and for many cricket lovers the tournament is over there. Interest will be high for other India matches, which comes once a week and a point that has to be noted is none of the matches are being played in the primetime. Overall fatigue is not at all an issue or concern when it comes to viewership or commercial interest. During IPL you get a competitive match every day and need not wait for a week.”

The digital rights for IPL have been bagged by MSM’s competitor Star India’s VOD platform Hotstar. When questioned about the impact of that on viewership, Gupta asserts, “TV viewership does not get affected by the digital platform. If someone has the option of choosing one of the two mediums, the obvious choice would be television. The digital platform helps building curiosity and as a result increases viewership. Moreover in India, we have a lot of issues like bandwidth and lack of proper 3G network.”

Necessary ignition was offered by the IPL players’ auction where Yuvraj Singh and KC Cariappa emerged as two shocking acquisitions. The flagship tournament is already being talked about and hence sets the stage for marketing. Throwing light on the network’s promotional strategy, Gupta says, “We are launching a huge marketing campaign, which would be different and bigger from last year. IPL is our biggest asset and we need to back it with proper promotional activities. It will be a 360 degree campaign across all mediums and it is expected to go on air by the end of February.”

IPL may be a platform for new talent but it has been the centre of a lot of controversies in recent times. The Supreme Court of India had to intervene to fight misdemeanour of many officials. When questioned about the integrity of the tournament, Gupta asserts, “BCCI is an established organisation and it will certainly take care of the integrity. International cricket stars play in the tournament, spectators love it and advertisers are interested in it, that’s all that matters. By mid-March we will have a packed ad inventory.”

“IPL season 8 will be bigger and better in every aspect including brand valuation. We will grow our viewership and successfully earn good ratings,” Gupta adds.

Media buyers are also upbeat about the tournament. Helios Media managing director Divya Radhakrishnan says, “IPL has a different set of spectators and there is no possibility of fatigue ruining the enthusiasm of the tournament. Whereever there is viewership, there is advertisement and IPL is one of the highest viewed cricket tournaments, which automatically make it a tournament of high commercial interest.”

Maxus managing director Kartik Sharma adds, “The first two or three matches will decide the fate of the tournament. They have to be strong and well fought bouts. If we get last ball finishes and super overs in the initial stages of the tournament it will evolve as a big thing. It’s all about entertainment at the end of the day and if IPL manages to attract spectators and viewers, advertisers will automatically follow.”

  • Does Yuvraj Singh deserve Rs 16 crore?, asks adman Pratap Bose

Does Yuvraj Singh deserve Rs 16 crore?, asks adman Pratap Bose

Having played for Bengal in my teens and waking up at 3 am just to listen to the commentary of West Indies playing India, I can proudly call myself a purist of the game.

But the site of cricketers being sold like horses in the ring for the benefit of insolvent owners, Bollywood actresses and wives of rich businessman is another reason why I so despise the IPL. What does Nita Ambani or Preity Zinta know about the cricket beyond a point?

The sight of players being bought like horses for the enjoyment of a few and to enhance the value of their team is not what cricket is meant to be. A few spend crores, using the sport as a platform to make more money. What amazes me more is the fact that players who have crossed their prime are being sold for exuberant amount of money. Take Yuvraj Singh for instance, who was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 16 crore. The player is done and dusted; he wasn’t even included in the ICC World Cup 2015 squad. So, why spend so much on him? There are many like him who are bought for their ‘star’ value instead of others who are the future of the game.

If this cannot be labeled as commercialisation of the game then what can?

And to top all this, we have scandals attached to the IPL, which is a disgrace to the game.

Like I said, I’m a purist of the game who loves longer formats, which helps test the caliber of a player, but I don’t mind a T20 World Cup. It is the IPL, I don’t like and don’t even watch because it has made the game nothing less than a circus.

  • IPL Auction: 67 players sold, Yuvraj again tops the list with Rs 16 crore

IPL Auction: 67 players sold, Yuvraj again tops the list with Rs 16 crore

MUMBAI: Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has become the most expensive cricketer in the IPL 8 players’ auction, which was held on 16 February in Bengaluru. Delhi Daredevils bought the cricketer for a record Rs 16 crore.

Dinesh Kartik was second in the list of most costliest player as Royal Challengers Bangalore paid Rs 10.5 crore for the wicket keeper batsman. If the amount paid for the India discards is shocking, the unsold list emerged as one of the idiosyncratic in the history of tournament. Hasim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene failed to find a bidder. Both Sangakkara and Amla are in top 10 rankings of ODI and Tests.

Indian World Cup winner speed star Zaheer Khan, who failed to come in the bidders list in the first round was purchased by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 4 crore in the later half.

Multi Screen Media’s (MSM) sports broadcaster Sony Six aired the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2015 auctions live. The auction was also streamed live by the tournaments official website iplt20.com.

Sony Six to broadcast IPL auction live

MUMBAI: The Indian Premiere League (IPL) player auction will be held on 16 February in Bengaluru. As of now there is no clarity on the number of players as the deadline for franchises to submit the original list has been deferred to 4 February 2015.

India discard Yuvraj Singh, former England skipper Kevin Pietersen, wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik, South African cricketer Hashim Amla are amongst marquee players to go under hammer this auction.

Unlike last year, when the auction was a two-day event containing all players barring those retained by the teams, this auction will be shorter but will still be significant for a few franchises. Having released big-name players, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore are likely to be the big spenders this time.

As per reports, Daredevils has the maximum purse available this time with Rs 400,000,000. Royal Challengers has Rs 210,000,000 in its kitty, having released Yuvraj who was the most expensive player last year with a bid of Rs 140,000,000. Though Yuvraj finished as the team’s second highest run-scorer, Royal Challengers were just above Daredevils with five wins.

England all-rounder Ravi Bopara, Australia’s Twenty20 captain Finch, India seamer Zaheer Khan fall in the Rs 10,000,000 bracket. Vijay opted for a base price of Rs 5,000,000.

BCCI announces team India probable’s for ICC Cricket WC 2015

MUMBAI: The announcement of India’s probable cricket squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is finally out. And so are some surprises. Cricketers like Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Gautam Gambhir and Harbhajan Singh have failed to make it to the 30 member preliminary list, released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Those who figure in the list include; MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Manoj Tiwary, Manish Pandey, Wriddhiman Saha, Sanju Samson, R Ashwin, Parvez Rasool, Karn Sharma, Amit Mishra, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohd Shami, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Dhawal Kulkarni, Stuart Binny, Mohit Sharma, Ashoke Dinda, Kuldeep Yadav and Murali Vijay.

Well known cricket expert and commentator, Harsha Bhogle took to the micro blogging site twitter, to express his reaction on the development. He tweeted “It means there is a huge churn from the World Cup winning team of 2011. Only four survive in a list of 30!! Dhoni, Ashwin, Raina, Kohli.”

The national cricket team selector was headed by Sandeep Patil, who made the decision today for the upcoming mega event to be held in Australia and New Zealand. It will be held from February to March. Interestingly the prominent names that did not make it, were part of the winning squad during the World Cup win in 2011.
