Meet a witty Aamir in Koffee with Karan

MUMBAI: After a brilliant start to the #KoffeeCentury with the Khan brothers; Karan Johar keeps the celebrations going by inviting Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist and acting powerhouse, Aamir Khan in Koffee with Karan. He will be accompanied by his onscreen daughters from his upcoming movie Dangal, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. The episode will air on Star World and Star World HD on Sunday at 9 pm.

The usually elusive and restrained Khan will be seen getting unabashed, witty and cool. From admitting that he would most definitely succumb to a beautiful woman’s charms to pulling Johar’s leg when he states that he only pretends to like Koffee with Karan, Aamir is candid in a never before seen avatar.

He also goes on to confess to being so emotional that he cried while watching the trailer of Dangal on YouTube for the first time and also reveals his hidden talents when he cheekily states that all a girl needs to do is get close to him to impress him and he will do the rest.

Shaikh and Malhotra join in the banter as they claim that Khan has no friends except them. They also go on to accuse Khan of stealing their answers in a bid to win the Koffee hamper in the Rapid Fire Round.

  • YouTube contemplates YRF, Shemaroo, Sony, Zee & studio tie-ups

YouTube contemplates YRF, Shemaroo, Sony, Zee & studio tie-ups

MUMBAI: With competition in the OTT space getting tougher every passing day, the players have to ensure that they boast an edge over the rest. In a move to compete with its rivals – Netflix and Amazon Prime, Alphabet’s YouTube is in talks with some of India’s biggest production houses and broadcasters.

Yash Raj Films, Shemaroo, Sony, Zee, etc are some of the big banners the streaming service is considering to partner with. It also plans to possess exclusive content for its Indian viewers from a large number of south Indian studios.

Though, the deals could be different in nature. YouTube APAC regional director Ajay Vidyasagar in an interview with Hindustan Times has stated that some of the deals may bundle the content for YouTube first followed by TV while, some can tweak it for YouTube.

YouTube is facing serious competition from rivals — Netflix and Amazon Prime not just in India but also in America. Globally, YouTube added 400 hours of content every minute to its platform last year. With Amazon signing a deal with Dharma Productions for exclusive content, with few more to be added soon, YouTube has competition knocking at its door. Even Netflix is closing in deals with studios like Phantom Films apart from its original production.

Though, Vidyasagar is not letting the players affect his brand. He believes that Netflix is a high-value, low-volume business with limited reach. It creates content in one place and makes it globally available globally.

But, YouTube claims to have found its way in having large volume and diverse content catering to local needs. According to Vidyasagar, it is expanding to become a local player in every country. Even in small towns, YouTube is the default native video platform that everyone chooses.

Even after Star India taking away its famous talk show, Koffee with Karan which airs on Star World, off YouTube, Vidyasagar asserted that they have an extraordinary volume and in a few quarters time, they might look at the traffic.

YouTube will also look more at exclusive content. In India, it will keep the business free, dependent on ad revenue. Even after having a Netflix-like subscription model in some countries, YouTube does not plan to do the same in India at least in the next few months.

Star Plus leads in traditional entertainment media brand category: Study

MUMBAI: In an industry study conducted by Vidooly, it is observed that Facebook could be a great platform for aspiring video creators in the country. They can then incorporate it in their overall content strategy and try to leverage other platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Instagram.

The study broadly covers six categories of content- health and lifestyle, new age entertainment, traditional entertainment, new age news, traditional news, individual creators and over 5,000 Facebook video publishers in India.

According to the report, Times of India with 112228314 views is the most viewed video publisher on Facebook. It is the most consistent video uploader of all and uploads more than 20 videos on their Facebook page almost every day.

“India is right now at the center of Facebook’s growth strategy. With around 142 million monthly active users in the country, it is a platform that brands or video creators cannot ignore! Despite YouTube still being the go-to platform for most video creators in the country, Facebook is fast catching up and attracting new creators to its platform,” said Vidooly CEO and co-founder Subrat Kar.

Star Plus dominates the traditional entertainment media brand category with 26 million+ views, and is followed closely by Zoom TV with 25 million+ views and HistoryTV 18 with 24 million+ views.

Food related content is gaining massive traction in India. Hebbar’s Kitchen, ScoopWhoop’s Om nom nom, Buzzfeed India, Glamrs, The Logical Indian, PopXo, Scroll are making a killing on Facebook through video.

The top 10 new age media brands collectively clocked over 206 million video views just in October.

  • YouTube supports 4K live streaming

    YouTube supports 4K live streaming

MUMBAI: The next generation benchmark in television technology, 4K, is still a high-cost format, live or not. Becoming the first service to offer live video streaming at this resolution is the Google-owned video service, Youtube. Starting today, the platform is bringing 4K support to its live streams and 360-degree videos.

According to YouTube, the first demonstration of 4K live streaming on its site will be The Game Awards 2016, which airs today at EST 9pm. The video game awards show will feature a live performance of iconic hip-hop duo Run the Jewels as well as premieres of a number of video games, including Mass Effect: Andromeda and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The image quality was mind-blowing on screens that support it, and in 360 degrees… the clarity could truly transport one, stated YouTube senior product manager Kurt Wilms in a blog post on Wednesday. YouTube first added support for 4K videos in 2010.

Earlier this year, the video service added support for live 360-degree video broadcasts, and VR is one of the areas that could immediately benefit from the added resolution.

Get ready for 360 concert and event streams that looked sharper, cleaner, and brighter than ever before, Wilms added.
