    Ghanchakkar misses the mark even as YJHD crosses Rs 180 Cr at the

    MUMBAI: The Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan starrer Ghanchakkar fails to please the audience, with a poor script and execution. The film opened to indifferent response on Friday, it could not cash in on Saturday and did only marginally better on Sunday to end its opening weekend with figures of Rs 19.35 crore.

    Raanjhanaa, which marked the debut of the south superstar Dhanush of Kolavari Di fame, has met with mixed response due to its second half. However, the first week collection figures are a respectable with Rs 32.2 crore; the film may benefit due to poor opposition in Ghanchakkar at places other than North where the Punjabi film, Jatt & Juliet 2, is creating a havoc.

    Shortcut Romeo the remake of Susi Ganeshan‘s own Tamil film Thiruttu Payale, starring Neil Nitin Mukesh, Ameesha Patel and Puja Gupta is doing poorly in its first week having collected just Rs 2.5 crore.

    Enemmy, Mithun Chakraborty‘s home production starring Mithun, Mahakshay, Suniel Shetty, Kay Kay Menon and Johnny Lever is doing poor business, barely collecting Rs 1.5 crore in its one week run.

    Fukrey, a north-centric youth comedy, has sustained reasonably well in its second week adding Rs 10.7 crore to take its tally to Rs 28.2 crore.

    Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to move smoothly in its fourth straight week. The film has collected Rs 7.3 crore in its fourth week to take its four week tally to Rs 180.25 crore.

    MUMBAI: Raanjhanaa, starring Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol which opened with weak collections, did well to gather momentum over the weekend. However, a disappointing second half plot being a major drawback, generating bad word of mouth, the film is not expected to carry on the momentum it generated over the weekend. Also, with its hero‘s mass appeal riding on the ‘Kolaveri Di‘ fame, the film was expected to do well in single screen theatres but that has not happened. The film has gone on to end its opening weekend with Rs 18.75 crore.

    Enemmy, Mithun Chakraborty‘s home production starring Mithun, Mahakshay, Suniel Shetty, Kay Kay Menon and Johnny Lever is doing poor business, barely collecting about a crore for its opening weekend.

    Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 from the Deol clan has dropped to less than 10 per cent of its first week figures collecting Rs 2.55 crore in its second week and taking its two week total to Rs 30.1 crore.

    Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani continues to be strong in its third week. The film has collected Rs 19.65 crore in third week to take its three week total to Rs 172.95 crore. This is certainly Ranbir Kapoor‘s biggest hit so far in a career spanning just six years from his debut withSaawariya (2007) till his last release in 2012 with Barfi! The Kapoor scion has certainly come off age in a big way.

    Aashiqui 2, the Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer has added Rs 20 lakh in its eighth week, taking its eight week tally to Rs 78.5 crore. This film has certainly exceeded everyone‘s expectations. The music of the movie has been much appreciated by audiences across the country.

    MUMBAI: The Excel Entertainment production Fukrey had its best opening weekend in Delhi and Punjab as there is a genuine connect with the audience up North, where it collected a third (Rs 2.60 crore in Delhi; Rs 70 lakh in Punjab) of its total weekend collections of Rs 9.5 crore across India.

    Ankur Arora Murder Case which is based on true events, featuring Kay Kay Menon, Tisca Chopra, Paoli Dam and Arjun Mathur hasn‘t done much to rave the audiences and this reflects in its poor opening weekend collection of about a crore.

    Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 is only the third Sunny Sound Production after Indian (2001) and 23rd March 1931: Shaheed (2002). The Deol clan‘s second outing in the YPD franchise has been below average at the end of its first week. The film has managed to collect Rs 27.55 crore for it opening week; the indications for the second weekend do not seem encouraging.

    Ayan Mukherjee‘s second directorial venture Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani starring the Kapoor scion and Deepika Padukone has followed up on its bumper first week with strong second week figures. The film collected Rs 49.3 crore in its second week taking its two week total to Rs 153.3 crore and adding a further Rs 13 core for the third weekend taking its 17 day tally to Rs 166.3 crore. Ranbir Kapoor has certainly established himself as a bankable star with back to back Rs 100 crore plus box office collections with last year‘s Barfi! and YJHDthis year.

    The debut directorial venture of Atul Sabharwal under the YRF banner and Arjun Kapoor starrer Aurangzeb has collected Rs 20 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week tally to Rs 24.25 crore at the box office.

    MUMBAI: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) has set the cash registers ringing at the box office with a record-breaking opening day as well as the opening weekend collections. The Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone starrer is on its way to join the illustrious Rs 100 crore club.

    The youthful entertainer is certainly the biggest opener for 2013 thus far by a mile. The film released in over 3,000 screens in the country with an earth-shattering response and its occupancy ranging between 95 per cent and 100 per cent in both single screens and multiplexes on Friday. With its positive reviews and good word of mouth, the movie showed a very good jump in its business on Saturday and Sunday and has been received well by the critics and audiences alike.

    The mammoth sized promotional events, guest appearances and performances on TV shows, brand associations and the works have done exceedingly well for it.

    Kapoor has created a solid fan following among the youth and second time writer-director, Ayan Mukerji, helped keep his fans happy.

    An extensive solo release backed by enhanced admission rates, has certainly accelerated the film‘s collection to rake in a handsome Rs 61.25 crore. The practice of reducing admission rates from Monday has been applied only at a select few outlets; this coupled with steady Monday, the film looks set to touch the 100 crore mark in real quick time.

    Ishkq In Paris, Preity Zinta‘s debut production venture has passed generally unnoticed, collecting about Rs 2 crore in its first week.

    Hum Hai Rahi Car Ke and Zindagi 50 50 found no takers and performed poorly.

    The Arjun Kapoor starrer Aurangzeb has collected a total of Rs 23.85 crore at the end of its second week.

    Go Goa Gone, the ‘zomcom‘ starring Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Khemu and Vir Das has collected Rs 1.8 crore in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 24.95 crore.

    Shootout At Wadala, the sequel to the 2007 hit Shootout At Lokhandwala has added Rs 1.1 crore for the fourth week to take its four week tally to Rs 49.1 crore.

    Chhota Bheem And The Throne Of Bali in its fourth week has added Rs 40 lakh to take its four week total to Rs 4.65 crore.

    Aashiqui 2 is going rock steady. The film collected Rs 5.5 crore in its fifth week thus taking its five week total to Rs 76.65 crore, certainly proving to be the sleeper hit of the year.

    MUMBAI: The much anticipated first look of Madhuri Dixit‘s special appearance in Ayan Mukherjee‘s next Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) is revealed on the actor‘s 46th birthday today.

     

    One of Bollywood‘s most splendid dancers will be seen shaking a leg with the youth heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor in the item song ‘Ghaghra‘.

     

    Dixit has come a long way from her debut film Abodh to her upcoming film Gulab Gang and young superstar Kapoor is a self confessed Dixit fan. “While shooting, I wasn‘t trying to compete with her. I was more than happy with Madhuriji take centre stage. When she is in a song, who is going to take a look at me anyway? She has added a lot to the buzz of the film. I‘m sure people will be curious to see her on the big screen,” he said.
