    Can Sonys new offering Live it up?

    MUMBAI: Every Thursday is a reality check for the channels and its shows. And more so when it gets a new show onboard. The success of any marketing campaign is reflected in the ratings and so when Sony Entertainment Television launched its new soap Kehta Hai Dil…Jee Le Zara, it built a big marketing campaign to create the right buzz to get good viewership numbers.

     

    Sony which is the highest gainer this week, as it added 48,804 TVTs (Television Viewership in thousands) taking its cumulative to 349,377 GVTs (Gross Viewership in thousands) (300,573 last week), launched Jee Le Zara, on 15 August in the 9:30 pm slot.

     

    The show which entered into a very competitive time slot with Star Plus’s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Zee TV’s Qubool Hai ruling the ratings chart in this time slot, has received 2,620 TVTs in its launch week and all this after some good marketing campaigns.

     

    “Every time slot today is competitive, we need to get audiences and so created a huge marketing campaign to inform people of the new show,” says SET senior VP & head-marketing Gaurav Seth. From a ‘Van Flag Off’ by Sangeeta Ghosh, the protagonist of the show to running of Twitter contests, the channel went a whole hog to hit the right cord with its audiences.

     

    The promotional activity started with the three promos shot for television. “Similarly, we had radio spots, which spoke on Sangeeta’s character in the show. We also launched a big multi-media print campaign on the day of launch of the soap which sustained till the first week of it going on air,” informs Seth.

     

    To sustain pressure and ensure that the promos went viral, the channel launched several social media activities and outdoor innovations. “One of this was when on 13 and 14 August we had a Jee Le Zara bus ferrying women from one part of the city to the other. The idea was to inform people of Sangeeta’s return on TV and also to promote the idea of Jee Le Zara,” he comments.

     

    The channel which launched the #Jee le zara moment contest on Twitter received over 7700 tweets with nearly 5.37 million people joining the conversation. “We were trending on Twitter on the launch day,” he informs.  The channel also ran promos of the show in major cinema chains nationwide for one week during the screening of Chennai Express.

     

    With Sony targeting not only the metros, but also UP, Rajasthan and Gujarat, with a 360 degree marketing campaign, we wonder if the numbers are enough when compared to the 7,435 TVTs of Qubool Hai and 7,284 TVTs of  Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The show will need some catching up to do in the coming weeks.

  • Nach Baliye 5 opens with 4.1 TVR

    MUMBAI: The fifth season of the celebrity dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye’ opened with a TVR of 4.1 on 29 December on the leading Hindi general entertainment channel (GEC) Star Plus.

    As per TAM ratings (HSM, C&S, 4+), sourced from Hindi GECs, the dance show helped Star Plus add GRPs in the 52nd week of 2012 from a week earlier. Star Plus saw its GRPs increase by 14 to 245 GRPs in the last week of 2012, maintaining its top position in the Hindi GECs rankings.

    The ratings for Star Plus’ leading fiction property ‘Saathiya Saath Nibhana’ fell to 4.3 TVR in week 52 from 5.1 TVR a week earlier. Its other fiction show ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’ saw its ratings remain unchanged at 4.6 TVR compared with a week earlier.

    Occupying the second position among Hindi GECs is Colors having added 15 GRPs to register 238 GRPs in the week ended 29 December. Its fiction show on child marriage ‘Balika Vadhu’ is the most watched show with 5.1 TVR (4.8 TVR a week earlier). The grand finale of ‘Sur Kshetra’ on 29 December clocked 1.6 TVR. Sur Kshetra was being simulcast on Colors and Sahara.

    Colors had also aired ‘People’s Choice Awards’ on 29 December which fetched 2.5 TVRs, contributing to around 12.5 GRPs to the channel‘s viewership. The awards show ran for two-and-a-half hours.

    Zee TV and Sony Entertainment Television (Set) share the third position with 198 GRPs each. While Set added six GRPs backed by slight improvement in viewership of its fiction properties, Zee TV lost 28 GRPs.

    The drop in viewership of Zee TV can be attributed to the fact that the channel had aired Mahasangram of two of its fiction shows ‘Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke’ and ‘Rab Se Sohna Isshq’ in week 51 that had garnered viewership for the channel.

    With an addition of 13 GRPs, Sab becomes the No. 5 channel. The channel ended the last week with 156 GRPs. Its fiction shows ‘Baalveer’ and ‘Jeannie aur Juju’ have sustained with 1.3 TVRs while ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah’ recorded 4.0 TVR and ‘Chidiyaghar’ attained 2.0 TVR.

    Sab EVP and business head Anooj Kapoor said, “Our success is a reinforcement of Sab’s brand promise of providing family entertainment with a dash of humour and this positioning consistently reflects in each of the shows produced by the channel. We will continue to offer innovative and differentiated content to our viewers across HSM and strengthen our reach to newer audiences across markets.”

    Next in the ranking is Life OK that saw a loss in viewership in week 52. The channel lost 43 GRPs at 110 GRPs.

    Sahara One with 23 GRPs (last week 24 GRPs) lies at the bottom of the ladder.

    In the digital homes, Colors continues to be the top ranked Hindi GEC in the digital market (HSM, digital 4+) for the sixth consecutive week. Colors leads with 242 GRPs in week 52 (220 GRPs a week earlier) in digital market with the overall leader (digital and analogue combined) Star Plus in second position with 225 GRPs (217 GRPs a week earlier).

    Sony is at number three position with 210 GRPs in the digital market, unchanged from the earlier week, and Zee is at the fourth position with 177 GRPs, down from 198 GRPs a week earlier.

    MUMBAI: Star Plus, Colors and Zee TV continue to maintain their top 3 positions among the Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs). But the channel that keeps coming close to Zee TV is Sony Entertainment Television.


    Sony is just three GRPs (gross rating points) away from Zee TV. Losing rating points for the third straight week, Zee TV clocked 185 GRPs for the week ended 16 July, down from 193, while Sony mopped up 182 GRPs (last week 184).


    Star Plus and Colors have strengthened their positions with 11 and 19 GRPs (gross rating points) respectively, according to TAM data for the week ended 16 July (C&S, HSM, 4+).
     
    Colors added most GRPs during the week on the back of Balika Vadhu (5.55 TVR) and Uttaran (5 TVR), ending with 271 GRPs (last week 252). Balika Vadhu regained its position as the No. 1 show in the GEC chart.


    Star Plus, on the other hand, pocketed 320 GRPs. Channel‘s Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai became second best show during the week, garnering 5.26 TVR.


    Meanwhile, Imagine TV, which was hovering above 100 GRPs since two weeks on the back of the season four of its flagship reality show Swayamvar – Ratan Ka Rishta, has seen a mighty fall. Imagine TV lost 39 GRPs to end the week with 65 (last week 104).


    Meanwhile, Sab remained steady with 133 GRPs (last week 131).


    Star One and Sahara One were at 37 GRPs (last week 36) and 31 GRPs (last week 30) respectively.
