  • Sony Max goes ‘badtameez’

    Sony Max goes ‘badtameez’

MUMBAI: When television premieres have become a norm, the channels have no option but to come up with interesting campaigns to not only grab attention of viewers but to also be a step ahead of the competitors.

Sony Max which has premiered some of the blockbusters over the years and has garnered enough eyeballs with its strategic campaigns, this time has come up with a marketing campaign – Yahan Badtameezi nahi chalegi, badtameezi chalegi toh sirf MAX par – around the premiere of last year’s megahit Yeh Jawaani Hai deewani.

The campaign has been conceptualised by JWT over a number of brainstorming sessions. The core aim of the campaign is to entice the audience and grab more eyeballs.

The 360 degree campaign entails the use of various tools like television, print, radio, outdoor, digital, and cinema. Some of the innovative initiatives include Ranbir Kapoor lending his voice to advise movie-goers to switch off their mobile phones during a movie across cinemas, auto rickshaws across Mumbai and Delhi will have his poster point out from behind asking people not to do badtameezi around or bouncers at various pubs and lounges wearing t-shirts that would be using the catch phrase of Yahan Badtameezi nahi chalegi, Badtameezi chalegi sirf MAX par with the logos.

“At Max, we always try to do things differently with each movie premier. With Yeh Jawaani Hai Dewaani also our marketing campaign attempts to break clutter,” says Sony Max VP marketing Vaishali Sharma.

When quizzed why such a huge campaign has been planned for a movie that has already been premiered on Sony earlier in 2013, Vaishali says, “It is a fun movie and since it is premiering for the first time on the channel, the campaign has been planned. The aim is to go all out and get people to watch the film as we feel that it still has potential to catch not only youngsters but the family as a whole.”

Similar eye catching hoardings will also be seen on bus stops shelters at prominent spots in Mumbai and Delhi with the stars of the film in their iconic poses. She adds, “Mumbai and Delhi are on the radar and a lot of ground activities will be done in the metros. The tier II and III cities will be tapped through television, print and digital.”

Radio too will be used extensively wherein contests will be run throughout the week asking people to talk about their badtameezi. Apart from this, the channel has also partnered with Facebook, where viewers can take a quick test to figure out if they are a funny badtameez, romantic, flirty or full on badtameez and get that stamped across their profile pictures. The Twitterati can use the hashtag #nobadtameezi and their friends to board the badtameez rail gadi on twitter.

The film will be aired on 19 January at 8 pm.

  • Evelyn Sharma to match dance steps with Arshad Warsi

Evelyn Sharma to match dance steps with Arshad Warsi

MUMBAI: Evelyn Sharma seems to have all the luck by her side. From starting out as a fashionista and graduating to Bollywood success with super hits like Nautanki Saala! and then Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), she’s now turning a new leaf in her career.

Evelyn has been signed by director Neeraj Pathak for Bhaiyyaji Superhit starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Arshad Warsi.

Pitted as the leading lady opposite Arshad, she plays a cute, sexy but traditional Indian girl. But what the actress is most excited about is matching dance steps with him. Apart from being a powerhouse performer, Arshad is well-known for being a great dancer. And Evelyn feels this gives her a chance to hone her dancing skills too. Nowadays, the girl is often spotted at a dance rehearsal hall in Andheri, Mumbai. We wonder if that has something to do with the challenge of dancing with Arshad.

Meanwhile, having bagged a role with various shades, comedy, songs, dance and all, Evelyn is glad to work with director Neeraj Pathak. “He spotted me in YJHD and invited me to his office for a meeting. He compliments me for my talent and thinks I am a quick learner. I feel honoured with the praise,” said the actress.

  • Stranded Evelyn boards an overnight train to reach for work on time

Stranded Evelyn boards an overnight train to reach for work on time

MUMBAI: Some Bollywood stars are known to go out of the way to accommodate their producers, sometimes braving risks and weather. We often hear such episodes of professionalism about Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. Joining the list now is actor Evelyn Sharma, who became popular with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Recently, while she was on her way to shoot for DivyaKhosla Kumar’s Yaariyan in Darjeeling and Sikkim, Evelyn’s flight was rerouted from Bagdogra to Guwahati airport because of a bad storm, leaving her stranded alone with her luggage.

Since the shooting was scheduled for next day, Evelyn decided to take an overnight train from Guwahati to Siliguri to reach her sets on time as she thought it would be a big hassle for any producer to reschedule location shoots.

“Luckily, God sent an angel to help me. The person guided and guarded me throughout the journey – from going to the railway station, arranging for a ticket on a completely booked train, guarding me for 10 hours on the journey, inviting me for lunch in Siliguri and safely dropping me to the car which brought me to the shoot in Sikkim,” revealed Evelyn though concealing the name and gender of this ‘angel’.

“Without the timely help, I would have been lost in Guwahati, as my phone was dead and the flight personnel did not help at all,” she adds.

The entire film crew was impressed with Evelyn’s bravery of taking the train alone at night, just to make sure she reaches on time.

Yaariyan is the directorial debut of T-Series’ head honcho Bhushan Kumar’s wife Divya Khosla Kumar and releases on 31 January next year.

  • ‘Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani’ cannot be released on TV or home video

‘Yeh Jawaani hai Deewani’ cannot be released on TV or home video

NEW DELHI: The Ranbir Kapoor starrer Yeh Jawaani hai deewani cannot be telecast on television until further orders of the Delhi High Court.

This follows a petition by the manufacturer of ‘Roohafza’, which says the film contains the "objectionable" dialogues against the squash.

However, the film has already been released in theatres and so the order will not affect the theatrical screenings.

Issuing notices to the director, producer and dialogue writers of the Ranbir Kapoor- Deepika Padukone starrer, Justice Manmohan Singh fixed the matter for hearing on 16 July.

"The defendants (film makers), their agents, representatives, assignees or any other persons acting on their behalf are restrained from releasing the home video version of the movie", or "of any other version of the movie on cable television or television which contains the objectionable dialogues as complained in the suit."

"However, it is made clear that this order is not applicable to the theatre version of the movie which has already released and the defendants are at liberty to omit the objectionable content from the film and proceed to release the home video version or any television version of the movie."

The court order came on an injunction suit filed by Hamdard National Foundation, the manufacturer of Roohafza, claimed the product is a household name in and outside India and the film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani contained some "objectionable" dialogues about the Unani recipe.

The petitioner said: "the defendants (filmmakers) have recently released the movie…which has hit the cinema halls and the said movie contains some dialogues which somehow shows the well-known product Roohafza in the manner which is detrimental to the interests of the plaintiffs (manufacturer) as a proprietor.

"The dialogues in the movie would definitely damage the goodwill and reputation of the plaintiffs and is an actionable wrong in common law as well as statute…," the plea said.

  • Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Fun, frolic and a bit of love

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani: Fun, frolic and a bit of love

MUMBAI: One of the tried and tested genres of film, acceptable to just about all kind of audience is a feel good love story with music to back it if one knows how to. This ‘how to‘ involves the romance to be plausible, clean and emotional. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is only the second outing for writer-director Ayan Mukerji. His first was a coming of age film, Wake Up Sid, which was also with Ranbir Kapoor. While Kapoor has since done almost a dozen films, Mukerji, to his credit, has not only come of age, he has matured into an accomplished writer-director.

Producers: Hiroo Yash Johar, Karan Johar.
    Director: Ayan Mukerji.
Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kunaal Roy Kapoor, Poorna Jagannathan.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has no side characters, no comedians or villains and no distractions. To make up for all that, it has been shot extensively on pleasant outdoor locales and generally carries a positive flavour throughout. And, during these parts, the film carries that whiff and charm of those Nasir Hussain romances.

The clique of school backbenchers, Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor, decide to go on a track with a group of 25 others when a top ranker, scholarly, bespectacled Deepika Padukone, bored of her bookworm life, decides to join in. She has none of the traits of the three and is an odd one out in the group. They believe in enjoying each moment, something she has never had the inclination or the time to do in pursuit of her studies, earlier for school and now medical. But everybody is enjoying and it does not take her long to join in. The trek outing is all about having fun, drinking, games and bonhomie. There are two one-sided romances happening: Padukone is gradually drawn to the charm and youthfulness of Kapoor while Koechlin loves Aditya; why the latter is indifferent is not known while Kapoor does not agree with the concept of love, marriage and being tied down to one girl or one place.

The outing is over. Kapoor proceeds to the US with the scholarship he has been offered and takes to travel photography. Just the dream he nourished, roaming places and meeting people. He has no intentions of returning to India, having lost his father, Farooq Shaikh, while having no communication, and has no ties with stepmother, Tanve Azmi. His contact with his friends is almost negligible. He has been busy filling his scrapbook with notes on places he visits. Now, he has been offered a dream posting, an assignment in Paris. That is when he receives a message from Koechlin asking him to attend her wedding, a five day affair in Udaipur.

The four friends come together again. Koechlin is marrying Kunal Roy Kapoor, Aditya runs a bar which he is about to lose having incurred heavy losses (It seems he is never without alcohol in his hand, and he probably drank up his bar!). Padukone is a doctor running her own clinic and Kapoor, of course, is a TV host of international repute now. Elaborate weddings being a favourite with filmmakers, this part is all about fun and dances and every Indian identifies with it. There is no melodrama but, yes, the buried romance is rekindled in Deepika‘s heart and, unwittingly though, this time Kapoor too succumbs. It is time for the film to head for its happy ending.

The feeling is that the film stretches its length at least by 15 minutes; this becomes more evident as there are just two able artistes to carry it through its 161 minutes marathon duration in Kapoor and Padukone. As the film begins, for some time the proceedings are dull, the Madhur Dixit item number is unnecessary and is not even good. Otherwise, the first half of the film passes smoothly. The second half becomes slow towards the latter portions, as one expects some drama towards the end.

For positives, the film has a well written script and competent direction from Mukerji. Pritam‘s music is a definite plus with almost all songs having appeal, while Amitabh Bhattacharya has provided perfect lyrics to blend with the theme of the film. Filmed mostly outdoors, between snow-capped mountains and picturesque Udaipur, it makes for a pleasant viewing. Kapoor is getting better with each film; he is a natural. Padukone is a perfect foil and justifies her lovelorn look throughout. Aditya carries on with the glass he picked up in his earlier film; no idea what he would have done with his hands otherwise. Koechlin has a limited range. Kunaal is okay.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani has opened reasonably well, especially at multiplexes and, with its positive reports, is sure to get better over the weekend.

Madhuri at 46 shakes a leg with Ranbir in YJHD

MUMBAI: The much anticipated first look of Madhuri Dixit‘s special appearance in Ayan Mukherjee‘s next Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD) is revealed on the actor‘s 46th birthday today.

One of Bollywood‘s most splendid dancers will be seen shaking a leg with the youth heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor in the item song ‘Ghaghra‘.

Dixit has come a long way from her debut film Abodh to her upcoming film Gulab Gang and young superstar Kapoor is a self confessed Dixit fan. “While shooting, I wasn‘t trying to compete with her. I was more than happy with Madhuriji take centre stage. When she is in a song, who is going to take a look at me anyway? She has added a lot to the buzz of the film. I‘m sure people will be curious to see her on the big screen,” he said.
