    Facebook introduces official music videos in India

    New Delhi: Facebook today introduced official music videos on the platform and launched a new Music destination on Facebook Watch in India, to allow people to view their favorite music videos and come together through music.

    You will now be able to discover, enjoy, and interact with today’s top-charting tracks to old catalog favorites across various music genres on Facebook.

    Manish Chopra, Director, and Head of Partnerships, Facebook India, said, “Over the past year, we have been working with partners in the Indian music industry to build the foundation of a music video experience for our consumers, and are thrilled to launch official music videos on the platform. We will continue to find opportunities to add more unique social sharing experiences and bring music into the ways people share and connect on Facebook".

    Official music videos on Facebook will create new social experiences that go beyond just watching the video. On Facebook, you will be able to discover new artists and tracks through social sharing, clicking through to a song [from a Music Sticker / Music Video] shared to a friend’s story or a post in News Feed. Without leaving Facebook, you can connect with and learn more about an artist and their creative ambitions, watch the story behind their music on their Page, a label page  and connect through real-time interactions on Facebook Live.

    The music video experience on Facebook is available in India, Thailand, and the US, and you’ll be able to watch your favorites from the country’s top music labels – T -Series Music, Zee Music Company, and Yash Raj Films.

    How to access Music Videos on Facebook:

    Facebook has made it easier to find and discover music videos on its platform. You can access the videos in different ways, including:

    Music Destination on Facebook Watch where you can explore music videos by genre, artist, or mood, as well as theme-based playlists like “Top Bollywood”, “Top Artists,” among others. The music destination on Facebook Watch is available on iOS and Android mobile devices and will be available on desktop soon.

    You can also access and discover music videos directly on your News Feed allowing friends and family to share their favorite music, or through Search.

    Aditya Chopra casts Ranveer Singh in ‘Befikre’

    MUMBAI: Yash Raj Films’ chairman Aditya Chopra has cast actor Ranveer Singh in his next directorial film titled Befikre. The film’s tagline is – “Those who dare to love.”

     

    Chopra will be donning the director’s hat again after a span of seven years. His last film was Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ in 2008 starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma.

     

    YRF unveiled a video that showed Singh on the fourth floor of the studio’s office building. In the video spanning more than three minutes, Singh reveals that he will be part of Chopra’s next movie – Befikre.

     

    It may be recalled that Singh began his acting career in 2010 with YRF’s Band Baaja Baraat, which was directed by Maneesh Sharma.

     

    Chopra made the announcement of his next film on the eve of his father and veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra’s 83rd birth anniversary on 27 September. According to Chopra, Befikre is his “riskiest” and “youngest” film.

    MUMBAI: Dolby Laboratories, Inc. (NYSE: DLB) and Yash Raj Films today announced that the much-anticipated movie Gunday will be releasing in Dolby® Atmos™—the latest in cinema sound technology. Dolby Atmos unleashes the potential of sound in storytelling by giving filmmakers the creative freedom to easily place or move sounds anywhere in the movie theatre to create a lifelike cinema sound experience. Gunday will be released across theatres in India and worldwide on February 14, 2014, by Yash Raj Films (YRF).

    Gunday, a Hindi action movie is written & directed by Ali Abbas Zaffar and produced by Aditya Chopra. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and Produced by Aditya Chopra, the film stars Ranveer Singh & Arjun Kapoor, as Bikram and Bala, along with Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan, in lead roles. Set during the most turbulent times in the history of Calcutta, from 1971 to 1988, the story revolves around Bikram and Bala, who rose from being small time wagon breakers and coal thieves to becoming the biggest and most powerful black market mafia-men. As their notoriety became the stuff of legends, the people of this sprawling city started calling these two carefree and inseparable rebels as Gunday.

    “I have always strived to make breakthroughs in my movies, from storytelling to production,” said Ali Abbas Zafar, director of Gunday. “Dolby Atmos is a wonderful tool that enables us to do just that. It allows us to present an even more realistic story with an amazing audio experience that not only excites the ears but also touches the heart.     Gunday has been natively mixed in Dolby Atmos by rerecording sound mixer Anuj Mathur at YRF Studios. Dilip Subramaniam is the movie’s sound designer. Mixing in Dolby Atmos can simplify workflows because a native Dolby Atmos mix can be used to create 5.1- and 7.1-channel surround sound versions.

    Commenting on the announcement, Pankaj Kedia, Country Manager, Dolby Laboratories India, said, “Dolby Atmos brings a natural lifelike audio experience to movie theatres, giving filmmakers the creative freedom to place and move sounds anywhere in the auditorium, including overhead, for added realism and impact.     15th Mumbai Festival to host ‘Music Composers Lab’

    MUMBAI:The 15th Mumbai Film Festival is doing all that it can to woo its audiences. The festival will be a host to the launch of India’s first ‘music composer’s lab’ and will be held at the Yash Raj Film Studios located in Andheri, Mumbai.

    The lab will be presented by UK’s Bohemia Junction and Abbey Road Studios in association with PRS for music, UK and will take place from 21- 23 October.

    The lab will offer a unique opportunity to emerging Indian composers to interact with successful professionals in the field of music and to get a better understanding of what lies at the heart of a music score in the arena of moving image.

    Over two days, six composers will attend the Mumbai ‘composers lab’ to meet and interact with professional composers and a team of music and film industry specialists, from the UK and India, who will share their knowledge and expertise with them. The composers will also be advised about many aspects of music and the industry. The lab is an initiative to provide a hub for like-minded emerging film composers to network with each other, as well as with industry professionals, to learn new skills in the realms of film scoring.

    The two-day film scoring sessions will be followed with an interview and audience Q & A with award-winning British composer Ilan Eshkeri and a with the lab’s creative advisors on 23 October at 1pm at metro cinema.

    Special guest Ilan Eshkeri, best-known for his film scores of 47 Ronin, Coriolanus, Stardust, The Young Victoria and Kick-Ass, as well as his collaborations with Coldplay, Annie Lennox and Take That, will lead the creative team of composers that will be announced shortly.

    Applications for young composers to take part in the workshop open today (17 September) and will close on Monday, 7 October.

    MUMBAI: Mani Ratnam‘s Raavanan is now part of the permanent collection of the Austrian Film Museum that houses 25, 500 films.

    Director of the museum Alexander Horwath was trying to get a copy of the film ever since he saw it at the Venice Film Festival (VFF) last year, where Ratnam received the ‘Glory to the Filmmaker Award’. “It was a glorious evening and Raavanan was screened after the award ceremony,” Horwath reportedly said on the sidelines of the VFF.

    Starring Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan and southern star Vikram, the bilingual was released in Hindi as Raavan while the Tamil version was called Raavanan.

    Howarth, however, regrets that of the total films in the library only 15 are from India. This includes three films of Satyajit Ray and Yash Raj Film’s Veer Zaara.

    The museum is also home to a library with more than 20,000 books and 200 magazine titles covering a broad range of film-related topics.

    MUMBAI: Amitabh Bachchan, who has played the narrator or sutradhar‘s role in many films, has excused himself from being one in the Hollywood film John Carter.

    Earlier, when the makers of the film approached the superstar for the sutradhar‘s role for the Hindi version, he decided to do the film.But the actor‘s current health condition has left him with no choice but to back out of the project.

    It is now being said that Salman Khan will now don the hat of the sutradhar for the film.

    However, Khan hasn‘t been able to seal the deal as he is currently in Cuba shooting for Yash Raj Film‘s Ek Tha Tiger.
