    Zoom unveils prime time show ‘Maximum Style’

    MUMBAI: Starting tonight (3 March) at 9:30 pm is lifestyle channel Zoom’s new show Maximum Style. As the name suggests, viewers are in for a slick show on the hottest trends in fashion and interiors from India and abroad.

    With a tag line ‘Style- shaken & stirred!’, Maximum Style is a show that promises to redefine how you wear your style, with tips from the biggest name’s from the world of fashion on what, when, where and how- to wear clothes, makeup, hair, shoes and accessories.

    Zoom head of programming Aparnaa Pande speaks to indiantelevision.com on the channel’s first show on fashion. “A 52 episode series, Maximum Style was conceived from the feedback that we keep getting from viewers asking who styles our Zoom anchors. Fashion is one of the few languages that can be understood by all. We created this series with an aim to make all trends shown on the show accessible to viewers. This is much more than models walking down the ramp in designer fashion wear. The series also covers the current buzz from the world of interior design,” says Pande.

    Hosted by well known Delhi model Amanpreet Wahi, the series will have the latest trends for men and women in clothes, accessories, living spaces and work stations. In a free-flowing format, it takes viewers to shopping outlets, fashion shows, bargain hunts with helpful suggestions and tips for making the most of your personal style and space.
    A special segment will showcase established and upcoming models. The upcoming Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai will also be covered. Sanjay Virmani, known for fashion and lifestyle shows on television, is producing Maximum Style.

    “Where to buy lists are included and it shows how to use inexpensive materials in creative ways. Whether you are looking to get involved with designer shoes like the models on the runways or for something trendy in the area of fashion jewellery, this is the show for you,” adds Pande. Maximum Style will be repeated at 7:30 pm on Sunday.

    Also starting on 6 March is the revamped Mirchi Top 20 with a new host. “With Yana Gupta getting busy with film assignments, we decided to revamp the next 52 episodes with an entirely new format and a new host. Model/actor Vidya Malvade will now host the weekly countdown show. She represents the freshness and savvy image that Zoom anchors are associated with. Deepti Bhatnagar has produced the new series. ”

    Taking the show out of the studio, the weekly countdown show Mirchi Top 20 brings the top 20 Bollywood chart-toppers with Vidya in a new city across the world. The first few episodes show Vidya in Venice, Hong Kong and Italy. It covers exotic lifestyles of people from all over the globe. Vidya will give viewers interesting trivia about the locations and of the celebrities from that region.

    “Listening to the latest chart busters in exotic locations will be almost akin to watching a travel show with a difference. This is an awesome show filled with tons of trivia on fashion, music, movies, television and film stars and the local culture of the cities covered,” says Pande.

    Mirchi Top 20 will air on Mondays at 9 pm with a repeat on Sunday at 10 pm.

    MTV Aids Summit zooms in on ‘Women’s Empowerment’

    MUMBAI:Come 1 December and MTV will focus on HIV/Aids both from a domestic and global perspective to help inform viewers about the epidemic and ways that they can actively engage in the issue and protect themselves.

    At 8:30 pm tomorrow MTV will air the MTV Music Summit for Aids 2005.The objective of this is not only to increase the awareness of Aids amongst the youth but also educate them on safeguarding themselves against this deadly disease. The theme for this years MTV Music Summit for AIDS is Womens Empowerment.

    Yana Gupta, Bombay Vikings, Shaan, Strings, Kunal Ganjawala, Himesh Reshamiya, Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana, Rahul Vaidya, the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa finalists, the new kids on the block  Pratichee and Raghav Sachar- all participate in the event.
     
    On 1 December 2005 MTV will also air special interstitial programming, including testimonials from young people and celebrities sharing their thoughts about the impact of HIV/AIDS on their lives, as well as their involvement in the fight against the epidemic. In addition to being aired on MTV throughout the day, these and other think MTV PSAs on HIV/AIDS will run on Times Squares MTV 44 ½ — the largest HDTV screen in the world.

    MTV wil also air an interview between MTV News correspondent John Norris and UN secretary-general Kofi Annan on the challenges of this global pandemic. MTV News will broadcast a special News segment excerpted from the interview, which will also be available on demand on MTV Overdrive, MTV’s new broadband network. MTV Radio will make the 30 minute interview available to all MTV Radio Network Affiliates nationwide, reaching more than 200 radio stations.

    mtvU will also feature World Aids Day programming on-air, as well as online at mtvU.com and mtvU Über  the networks broadband channel. mtvU will present a number of new HIV/Aids related PSAs and VJs will discuss testing and the college audience.

    In a special partnership with Global Nomads Group, mtvU will present original short form programming profiling college students from the US and India discussing HIV prevention issues and visiting a local hospital in India treating HIV patients. All of the programming will run on mtvU and mtvU Über. Additionally, users will be able to log on to mtvU.com to learn about testing, facts on sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, condom use and hotlines.

    Meanwhile in the US, MTV and the Kaiser Family Foundation, as part of the think: Sexual Health campaign, have announced a multiplatform programming line-up of specials, public service announcements (PSAs), free interactive resources and broadband services. The collaboration builds on MTVs nine-year public education partnership with Kaiser.

    MTV and MTVs college network in the US mtvU will air Think Again: Sex Myths Revealed. The aim is to help inform and empower young people to protect themselves from HIV/Aids and other sexually transmitted diseases by dispelling popular misconceptions.

    MTV News will also feature news segments examining the state of the HIV/Aids epidemic in the US and abroad, focusing on young people who represent half of all new HIV infections globally. A new series of PSAs called Perspectives produced by Kaiser and MTV, will aim to inform viewers about HIV/Aids and direct them to the campaigns toll-free hotline and website for more information, including where and how to get tested.

    Online, through think.mtv.com, viewers will be able to access It’s Your (Sex) Life: Your Guide to Safe & Responsible Sex. This is a free interactive guide created by Kaiser and MTV, which provides information on STDs and HIV. The website will also help users find local HIV testing facilities and highlights opportunities to get involved on a local community level. MTV Overdrive, the broadband network, will also air all World Aids Day programming on-demand.

    Fido Dido takes on Yana Gupta in 7 UP campaign

    MUMBAI: Pepsi’s lemon-lime brand 7UP has kicked off its new campaign for 2005, co-starring brand mascot Fido Dido with Bollywood star Yana Gupta.
    According to Pepsi Foods executive director (marketing) Punita Lal, “While reinforcing the refreshment cues, the advertising brings out the core of Fido’s persona – fun, wit & out of the box thinking. The brand proposition ‘Refreshingly Imaginative’ is best reflected in this advertising and the new baseline ‘Andaaz sabse cool’.

    The new 30 second TV ad has been produced by Farah Khan who last year directed the box office hit ‘Main Hoon Naa’. Excited about the new campaign Farah said, “It was wonderful putting Fido in the typical Bollywood quawaali setting, giving him a little koti & gale mein rumaal. He added a lot of fun and fizz on the sets. He is every director’s dream, no starry hang ups, bilkul bindas.” The music has been composed by Anu Malik.
    In this TVC, created by J Walter Thomson, Fido matches his wits in a Bollywood style quawwali muquabla with popular model Yana Gupta.

    Says Yana of her co-star Fido: “I had so much fun shooting this spot with Fido. He is just so cool. In fact I love how he always finds a smart and witty way to get his favorite drink 7UP”. The sign off for the campaign: “Andaaz sabse cool!” is also the new tag line for 7UP.
    The campaign breaks in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada & Telegu across TV channels in India on 22 February. Besides television, this campaign will also be visible on billboards across the country and at all soft drink stores. The sound track will also be on high rotation on FM radio channels, informs an official release.

    A series of “Fido Chowks” (Fido Square’s) which are fun hang outs, are also being put up around the country.

    Sahara Sangeet Awards on SaharaOne

    MUMBAI: Sahara Sangeet Awards 2004, held at the Royal Albert Hall in London, will be shown on 10 October at 7:30 pm on SaharaOne channel.

    The event was held in honour of the musical geniuses of Indian popular music.

    According to an official release, the Sahara Sangeet Awards will showcase performances of Hrithik Roshan, Yana Gupta and Sameera Reddy, along with the choreographer Shiamak Davar, and his dance troupe and Asian music sensation – the Rishi Rich Project from London.

    The jury panel comprised personalities from the film and music fraternity like Shyam Benegal, Ramesh Sippy, Saapna Mukherjee, Sameer, Himmesh Reshammiya, Ken Ghosh, Viju Shah, Shiamak Davar and Raju Singh. The panel judged and voted on the nominations and selected the final award winners.

    The award function saw the attendance of Shabana Azmi, Feroz Khan, Javed Akhtar, Shankar Ehsan & Loy, Jatin Lalit, David Dhavan, Remo Fernandes, Sunidhi Chauhan amongst others.

    The award details:

    Javed Akhtar scored a hat trick with awards for best lyrics in pop music category for O Sahiba, best lyrics category (critics award) and best lyrics in the film music category for the title song in blockbuster Kal Ho Naa Ho.

    The legend’s honour went to music director Anandji of Kalyanji-Anandji fame while the music composer AR Rahman won awards for best music director (film music-Yuva) and best music arranger (critics award) for Yeh Rishta in the film Meenakshi.

    Playback singer-cum-music director Shankar Mahadevan claimed honours for best male singer and best album award and later along with Ahsan and Loy won prizes in the best song category for Kal Ho Na Ho and the best music director award. The awards for best film song and best new voice in film music went to Fateh Ali Khan for Rahaat .

    Other award winners were Awadoot Gupte (best new voice in pop music), Strings (best pop group,) Aksar (best song), H Sridhar and S Shivkumar (best sound recordist – critics award for the film Yuva), Ram Sampad (best music programmer -critics awards for the film Khakee), Sunidhi Chauhan (best playback female singer in Chameli), Amir Jamal (best male playback singer in Murder), Jatin Lalit (most popular choice award for soundtrack in Hum Tum), Alka Yagnik (best playback female singer in Tere Naam) and Udit Narayan (best male playback singer in Koi Mil Gaya).

    MUMBAI: The new channel from the Times Group – Zoom, which started its test runs as of 10 September, has roped in Pooja Bedi and Yana Gupta for two of its shows.

    Bedi will be anchoring a show called Not Just Page 3, which will feature celebrity news and high society trends among other things. Bedi will be adding more oomph to the star studded show and the channel believes it will conquer the essence of the celebrity circuit on television screens. The show is all set to create waves with information about the biggest celebs in town and with the stunning Bedi in the driver’s seat.

    Czech bombshell Gupta, on the other hand, will have a countdown show on Zoom. This is the first time that Yana will have a complete show to herself. Titled Mirchi Top 20, the show will feature the top 20 chartbusters.

    MUMBAI:Come 14 February, and television will play cupid to couch potatoes who wish to spend the day at home.

    A battle for the remote control is more than obvious as viewers decide what to watch – romance and love specials and blockbuster movies churned out by various channels or the World Cup cricket match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

    Channel [V] intends to pull at the viewers heart strings by playing 24 hours of best love songs and a [V] Crush special with the sexy supermodel, Yana Gupta. The channel will play romantic classics like Toni Braxton’s Unbreak my Heart, Love is all Around by Wet Wet Wet and brand new chartbusters like Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word by Blue and Elton John and I Need You by Marc Anthony amongst others, all day long.

    Interestingly, MTV India will celebrate Valentine’s Day rather differently with a showcase of romantic moments, sweet ballads and MTV’s Jhankar Beats hosted by VJ Sophia. The one hour special at 11:00 am will include a chat with the movie’s stars – Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose, Sanjay Suri, Shayan Munshi and Riya Sen. The show repeats on 16 February at 7:00 pm and 19 February at 5:00 pm. The channel has also announced merchandise from the movie as prize to viewers who give correct answers to questions that would be asked during the special.

    In keeping with the tradition, movie channels have slated an impressive array of movies to suit the viewer palette. Not to be outdone mainstream entertainment channels too have readied special programmes centred around the theme.

    Hallmark, will air The Locket on 14 February. The movie which is about a locket that binds together an old woman’s past and a despondent young man’s future in manners that change their lives. The movie stars, Vanessa Redgrave and Chad Willette. The others movies scheduled to be shown as part of the Valentine Festival include The Snow Queen which will be shown in two parts,the first part airs on 15 February 2003 and the second on 16 February at 10:30 pm respectively. The other movies that will be aired include The Burbs, Then There was one and Uncle Buck.

    HBO will kick off “HBO’s Valentine’s Day Marathon” at 6:00 am . The marathon includes classics like He Said, She Said, For Love Of The Game, The Beautician And The Beast, Grease, Loser Can’t Hardly Wait and The Wedding Singer. These top blockbuster movies have been brought through exclusive licensing deals with four major Hollywood studios – Paramount, Sony Pictures Entertainment (Columbia/ TriStar), Universal and Warner Bros (including New Line Cinema).

    Not to be left behind, Star Movies too will run a slew of movies like American Desi, Vanessa William’s Courage to Love and David Lynch’s controversial road film Wild at Heart with Oscar winner Nicholas Cage .

    Coming to the mainstream entertainment channels , Zee TV intends to bank on the success of the Thursday Premiere mantra and will show Revathi’s directorial debut – Mitr, as its Valentine Special. The movie starring Nasir Abdulla and Shobhna centres around Indian housewives who live with their husbands abroad and and showcases the identity crises that people of Indian origin sometimes face in a foreign land. The movie airs 13 February 2003 at 8:00 pm.

    Also, the music show Sansui Antakshari will hold Valentines day special, for couples. The show which is in a mini series format of four episodes per month, with the final being held on the last episode, has introduced some innovative names that have been incorporated into the rounds are Musical chair, Parde Mein Rehne Do, Aaj Kal to name a few.

    B4U Movies on the other hand will be showing the Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar and Sunil Shetty starrer -Dhadkan.
