‘Detective Byomkesh Bakshy’ to premiere on Sony Max

MUMBAI: Sony Max brings to you a spine tingling thriller that will take you to a world of murky mystery with world television premiere of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy on Saturday, 30 May at 8 pm and Sunday, 31 May at 1pm.

In his latest directorial venture, Director Dibakar Banerjee has brought together Sushant Singh Rajput in the role of Detective Byomkesh Bakshy along with Anand Tiwari, Swastika Mukherjee (debut) and Meiyang Chang to re-create the historical phase of uncertainty and chaos created by World War II.

The film is a contemporary interpretation of war-torn Calcutta of the early 1940s; a time when Japanese and Chinese smugglers were engaged in covert activities to seize the city from British control. The movie trails the first adventure of Byomkesh (Sushant Singh Rajput) as he puts himself against an evil genius who is out to destroy the world.

Speaking about his experience on filming the thriller, Sushant Singh Rajput said, “The character was in a way very distant from what I thought I was at that point of time. So, convincing myself to be Byomkesh was challenging for me. I had an idea of my own personality and got a hang of the character only when I spoke to Dibakar about it in detail.”

Speaking on the Fandry ‘Jaaniv Zhali, Badal Havaa’ initiative, Mr. Deepak Rajadhyaksha, Business Head, Zee Marathi said “Blockbusters have always rated well on Zee Marathi and this has been established beyond doubt. It is not often that one gets a chance to make a difference to someone’s life and hence we have gone beyond the regular model of a movie premiere and decided to make a difference. We have always taken up interesting initiatives; one’s that we believe in and feel we can strongly support. With the reach and viewership we enjoy in Maharashtra it was imperative for us to create a drive that would force people to think and pledge their support to change. We have always associated ourselves with movements to make a change and the Fandry campaign for change is just another step in that direction.” While the viewers will be voluntarily donating to the NGOs, the channel will definitely contribute to the cause. Mr. Rajadhyaksha adds “Charity begins at home and hence the Zee Marathi family felt it was right for us to donate a sum of Rs 5 lakhs towards the cause. We believe our viewers will support this noble cause and add a smile on the faces of the many Jabya’s (character name of the lead protagonist of the movie) across Maharashtra.”

The channel creative and marketing teams have been working round the clock to ensure that there is no stone unturned in bringing about change. Pledging support to this cause is Zee 24 Taas who will run a few special features on the NGOs and interview the artists associated with the cause. Also lined up is the interview with Nagraj Manjule, the director of the movie who based this story on true happenings in his native village. The movie produced by Esselvision stars Somnath Avaghade as Jabya apart from Kishor Kadam and Nagraj Manjule who plays a cameo in the movie. Based in the heartland of rural Ahmednagar, the movie is about the rampant caste discrimination in society and its ill effect on school going Jabya who wishes to live like just another child. ‘Fandry’ has won critical acclaim and won awards at many international film festivals apart from the coveted National Award.

  • Oops! &pictures forgets Ghanchakkar or does it?

Oops! &pictures forgets Ghanchakkar or does it?

MUMBAI: Right from the very first phase of the channel’s launch, &pictures has pulled out all stops and taken the offbeat and innovative communication route while interacting with its target audience.

For the upcoming movie premiere of Ghanchakkar at 9:00 pm on the channel’s primetime property, ‘Saturday First Show’; the channel plans on taking the storyline of the film to promote the World Television Premiere of Ghanchakkar.

While initial plans and promotions a few weeks back had Ghanchakkar slated to air on 5 October, &pictures now plans to air the film on 12 October instead. In keeping with the essence of Emraan Hashmi’s character who forgets everything, the pitch being used for the world premiere of Ghanchakkar too, is that “We forgot that we were to air the film on 5 October!”

Promos for the premiere of the film went on air on Saturday, 5 October, and feature a montage of Emraan Hashmi’s character from the film Sanjay Atre spouting his now familiar line “Mujhe kuch yaad nahi aa raha hai.”

“As a channel that engages with new India, we always seek to take the unconventional route which appeals to and grabs the attention of our audience,” says Zeel marketing head – national channels Akash Chawla.

“The initial censor certification for the film during its theatrical release was ‘U/A’. However keeping in mind the fact that TV audiences watch films in their homes, we have further edited the film to make it suitable for viewers of all ages,” says Zeel cluster programming head (Hindi movie channels) Ruchir Tiwari, about the special considerations that have been taken into consideration while premiering the film.
