Ideabaaz: NSE takes stock of startups as women-led ideas drive India’s growth

MUMBAI: If stock markets run on bulls and bears, India’s newest marketplace is running on bold ideas led by women. At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), where fortunes rise and fall by the tick, Ideabaaz, the country’s first integrated startup-investor marketplace and entrepreneurial reality show, made its debut, promising to turn kitchen-table dreams, especially those of women entrepreneurs into boardroom breakthroughs.

The launch, presided over by NSE MD & CEO Ashishkumar Chauhan, brought together an eclectic mix of business leaders, venture capitalists, founders, and dignitaries, signalling that women-led entrepreneurship is now centre stage in India’s economic playbook.

The emphasis on mentorship is particularly significant. Experienced entrepreneurs, investors, and industry leaders are providing guidance that goes beyond capital helping women navigate regulatory hurdles, refine business models, and scale operations. “Mentorship is the bridge between dreams and execution,” noted one participant. “It’s what transforms ideas into sustainable businesses.”

Networking opportunities are another cornerstone. Ideabaaz brings together founders, investors, and experts under one roof, enabling women entrepreneurs to learn from peers and industry veterans alike. The connections made here could define the trajectory of India’s next unicorns, and the programme ensures that women are front and centre in these high-value interactions.

Ideabaaz pitches itself as more than just another startup show. It combines investor matchmaking, mentorship, professional services, and transparent tracking, with a strong focus on women entrepreneurs in growing cities and towns. Its mission: to empower a billion dreams and turbocharge India’s economic engine. “This is not just about entertainment,” emphasised the team. “It’s about access to capital, to mentors, to opportunities that were once out of reach for small-town innovators.”

Among the most rousing voices was SheThePeople and Gytree founder Shaili Chopra who said: “My introduction often says I’m ‘Women Entrepreneurship’s OG Queen,’ a crown I wear with pride but also with responsibility for the 6.2 million women in our network and 70,000 women entrepreneurs we meet every day. At Ideabaaz, we multiply that number seriously. We are a country of 1.5 billion, half of them women, we deserve half the opportunity and half the voice.”

She added with characteristic punch: “Indian women entrepreneurs are not the side story, they are the centrepiece. They don’t wait for the stage they take it. From kitchens to boardrooms, women are shaping India’s growth story. And as we build this idea of ‘We the People of India,’ let’s not forget ‘She the People of India.’”

For The Sleep Company co-founder Priyanka Salot, the moment was emotional: “As a founder, I’ve always got goosebumps watching someone ring that NSE bell. Today, being part of Ideabaaz makes it real. I started in a small town with a very big dream, and in six years of building The Sleep Co, I’ve learnt that India is the best place in the world to be an entrepreneur.”

She stressed the macro context saying: “We’re on track to a 5 trillion dollars economy, and the backbone of that will be startups. Ideabaaz matters because it’s not just a show, it’s a movement. It gives wings to ambitions, showcases the strength of Indian innovation, and provides not just money, but mentorship and learning. Dream big, execute bigger.”

Financial empowerment goes hand-in-hand with recognition. By giving women founders a chance to pitch directly to investors, Ideabaaz is fostering an ecosystem where funding decisions are merit-based and inclusive. For many participants, this is the first time their businesses are being assessed purely on potential, innovation, and execution, rather than traditional biases.

Rukam Capital founder & managing partner Archana Jahagirdar brought the VC lens: “Next year marks 10 years since the startup boom, and look how far we’ve come. Today, nearly 2 lakh startups are registered with DPIIT. At Ideabaaz, I’ve seen founders from every corner of India, every language, every kind of business. We’ve backed them with money, but more importantly with our time and belief. Capital is critical, but mentorship is priceless.”

If the stock exchange has long been the temple of capital, then on this night, it became the stage for women-led ideas. The bell has been rung. Now it’s time for female founders across India to take their shot, proving that the next wave of entrepreneurial success will be driven by women with ambition, vision, and the right platform to shine.

  • Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Business Loan Options for Women

Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Business Loan Options for Women

Women Entrepreneurs have made a vital impact on the economy and innovation, as women entrepreneurs continue to grow increasingly in the business world. Among the challenges they are most faced with is that of access to capital. Notably, financial institutions and schemes by the government of India have shown support to empower women by offering loan options to women businessmen. This paper focuses on different types of business loans for women entrepreneurs with their features, benefits, and eligibility criteria.

    Understanding Business Loans for Women

Specific women’s business loans are specialised financial aids provided to female entrepreneurs who wish to start or scale their business ventures. Women’s business loans can be availed for the purchase of equipment, recruitment of staff or managing operational costs. The increasing emergence of women business loans testify towards the fact that women have become a crucial part of the economy.

    Types of Business Loans Available

Below are some of the types of business loans available for women entrepreneurs:

Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana: This scheme offers three types of loans namely Shishu, Kishor, and Tarun, catering to different stages of business development. Women can borrow up to Rs 10 lakh under this scheme with minimal eligibility requirements and competitive interest rates.
Stand-Up India Scheme: Aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among women and SC/ST communities, this scheme provides loans between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore for starting new businesses.
Union Nari Shakti Scheme: This scheme provides term loans for women entrepreneurs to buy or renovate business premises.

    Features and Benefits

Business loans for women come with several advantages:

    ●    Affordable Interest Rates: Most lenders offer concessional interest rates specifically to women entrepreneurs, thereby making borrowing more affordable.
    ●    Collateral-Free Options: Several schemes do not require collateral thereby reducing risk for the borrowers.
    ●    Quick Processing: Most lenders promise fast processing wherein the applicant woman could get funds quickly, sometimes within 48 hours.
    ●    Flexibility in Repayment Terms: Borrowers often have the option to choose repayment terms that suit their cash flow needs.

    Eligibility Criteria

Even though every lender can have its own set of eligibility criteria, some of the general ones include:

    ●    The business should be operating for a minimum period, which is usually six months.
    ●    The applicant’s credit score must be good (usually 750 or above).
    ●    The business must show a minimum level of turnover (for example, ₹90,000 in the past three months).
    ●    Some businesses will not be eligible, such as NGOs or charitable organisations.

    Application Procedure

When women apply for business loan, they generally need to follow the following steps:

    ●    Research: Compare different loan options based on interest rates, repayment terms, and other eligibility criteria.
    ●    Prepare Documentation: Gather necessary documents such as proof of identity, business registration details, financial statements, and tax returns.
    ●    Apply: Apply online or visit the lender’s branch to submit your application along with the required documents.
    ●    Await Approval: Once the application has been submitted, the lenders will check on the same before advancing the loan after seeking the necessary details.

Problems that the Female Entrepreneur Faces

Even though these financial options exist, most women entrepreneurs encounter problems like:

    ●    Lack of Knowledge: Many women do not know how many loan options are available.
    ●    Social Related Issues: Norms of society sometimes discourage females from venturing into entrepreneurship.
    ●    Lack of Credit History: Many women do not have any credit history, meaning not easy to obtain loans.

    Conclusion

Accessible business loans empowering women entrepreneurs play an imperative role in fostering economic growth and innovation. With hundreds of government schemes and monetary institutions offering customised loan products, women now have better chances than ever to make their entrepreneurial dreams a reality. Most importantly, by understanding the choices available, women can overcome challenges significantly in the economy while finding success in personal business ventures.

  • Semicolon stories: How women entrepreneurs are redefining success and overcoming adversity

Semicolon stories: How women entrepreneurs are redefining success and overcoming adversity

Mumbai: In recent years, the rise of women entrepreneurs has significantly altered the business landscape. Women are not only carving out spaces for themselves in various industries but are also redefining what success looks like. Their journeys, fraught with challenges and marked by resilience, offer inspiring lessons on overcoming adversity. This article delves into how women entrepreneurs are reshaping success through authenticity, community-building, and sustainable practices.

    Breaking through barriers

Women entrepreneurs often begin their entrepreneurial journey facing a multitude of barriers, from systemic biases in funding to societal expectations about their roles. Despite these obstacles, they persist, breaking through ‘glass ceilings’ to create opportunities not just for themselves but for other aspiring women as well. Their success stories are not just about personal achievement but about dismantling long-standing barriers in industries traditionally dominated by men.

    Redefining success

For many women entrepreneurs, success goes beyond mere financial gains. It encompasses a broader vision involving authenticity, ethical practices, and sustainable growth. These leaders prioritize building businesses that reflect their values and ethics, often focusing on community impact and long-term viability over quick profits. This shift is influencing broader business practices and encouraging a move towards more responsible and inclusive economic practices.

    Building communities

Another significant aspect of the journey of women entrepreneurs is their focus on community building. Recognizing the strength in unity, they forge networks that support and uplift other women, creating ecosystems that nurture innovation and mutual growth. By mentoring the next generation, they ensure that their knowledge and experience are not lost but passed on to empower more women to step forward and lead.

    Overcoming adversity through innovation

Innovation is a key driver for women entrepreneurs as they navigate through their unique challenges. They often need to be exceptionally creative to overcome prejudices and access resources that are more readily available to their male counterparts. This necessity breeds innovation, not just in terms of products or services but in the very approach to business. Leveraging technology, finding niche markets, and employing unique marketing strategies are among the ways women entrepreneurs excel and differentiate their businesses in competitive markets.
    Inspiring future generations

The impact of women entrepreneurs extends beyond their immediate business achievements. By breaking norms and achieving success, they serve as role models for future generations. Their stories inspire other women to pursue their dreams and persevere through difficulties, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable entrepreneurial ecosystem. They demonstrate that with determination and resilience, obstacles can be transformed into stepping stones towards success.
    The path forward

As more women rise to the top of their fields and start their ventures, the definition of success will continue to evolve. The focus is likely to shift even more towards sustainable practices, community impact, and collaborative success. The narrative of women in business is increasingly about creating meaningful, lasting change that not only profits but also progresses society.

In conclusion, women entrepreneurs are not just participating in the business world; they are actively reshaping it to be more inclusive, ethical, and community-focused. Their journeys of overcoming adversity and redefining success provide compelling narratives that not only inspire but also pave the way for a more diverse and dynamic future in business. Through their resilience, determination, and innovative spirit, they are building a legacy that will inspire generations to come. As they continue to challenge the status quo and redefine boundaries, the stories of these women will remain crucial in understanding the evolving landscapes of entrepreneurship and success.

Wonder Women 2022: Honouring the top 100 achievers

Mumbai: Continuing its annual tradition of recognising and honouring remarkable women leaders, entrepreneurs and change-makers for their outstanding contributions in the arena of media, entertainment and marketing industries, IndianTelevision.com pulled back the curtain to reveal the list of 100 Wonder Women Award winners. The names of the winners were announced virtually at the Wonder Women 2022 event held on Friday, ahead of International Women’s Day 2022.

While women account for about half of India’s population, they represent less than one-third of the workforce- the lowest among the major economies- as per a 2019 government report. The pandemic only made the situation worse. Awareness is important, but even more so is action. Companies, teams, and peers must continually choose to challenge workplace bias, advocate for inclusion, and ultimately effect lasting change at work.

While a lot needs to be done on the ground level to narrow the gap and foster a gender-neutral workforce, the Wonder Women 100 aims to empower and inspire women by honouring professionals who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers in the business & creative arts, overcoming challenges. The goal is to elevate the role models who can motivate and mentor the next generation of aspiring women.

The event also saw panel discussions on relevant topics that play a critical role in driving this change. By creating spaces that elevate, amplify, and empower women and non-binary voices, these sessions aim to inspire attendees, offering hope for a future of true gender equity.

The power list of the 100 top achievers has been compiled with the aid of an esteemed jury comprising the editorial heads from IndianTelevision Group.

Here are the names of  this year’s standout winners.

Research reveals that women outscore men by being better leaders, team workers, innovators, and problem-solvers. Women have an immense potential to show when given a level playing field in major aspects such as mentoring, decision-making, capacity building, financial judgment, access to credit as well as new-age skills like critical and analytical thinking, which are imperative for the success of entrepreneurs. Women are the ones who have to play multiple roles and juggle different responsibilities. Constant multitasking and brain drain in the workforce are also compelling women to choose entrepreneurship. Flexibility is important for women, and this is why being the boss bestows females with more freedom. Women are realizing it and planning things as per their wishes, thereby, enforcing them to become entrepreneurs.

Working for yourself means you can make self decisions, have full control of your business activities and directly network with business partners. Not surprisingly, women are becoming entrepreneurs to move quickly up the career ladder and taste success in life.
