  • NSE launches Ideabaaz to fuel India’s startup dreams and entrepreneurial spirit

NSE launches Ideabaaz to fuel India’s startup dreams and entrepreneurial spirit

MUMBAI: If stock markets run on bulls and bears, India’s newest marketplace is running on ideas. At the National Stock Exchange (NSE), where fortunes rise and fall by the tick, Ideabaaz, the country’s first integrated startup-investor marketplace and entrepreneurial reality show was officially launched, promising to turn kitchen-table dreams into boardroom deals.

Ideabaaz pitches itself as more than just another startup show. It combines investor matchmaking, mentorship, professional services, and transparent tracking, all with a strong focus on growing Indian cities. Its mission: to empower a billion dreams and turbocharge India’s economic engine.

“This is not just about entertainment,” emphasised the team. “It’s about access to capital, to mentors, to opportunities that were once out of reach for small-town innovators.”

For Della Town founder & CME Jimmy Mistry  the platform resonated with his vision of building “Brand India” on the global stage. “When Subhash showed me the idea of Ideabaaz, he knew how much social impact and brand India meant to me. At Della Township, we’re building the world’s first self-generating townships. My dream is to create India’s first global metal luxury brand something that hasn’t happened in 78 years of our freedom.”

Mistry called Ideabaaz a movement as irreversible as globalisation in the ’90s, “Every family in India should have one member aspiring to be part of the startup ecosystem. With Ideabaaz, the exponential growth in startups could be 10x. India will never be the same again.”

Sharrp Ventures managing partner, Rishabh Mariwala praised the grit behind the show itself. “I wouldn’t have imagined something like Ideabaaz happening at NSE. But here we are, it started as an idea, and today it’s a reality. In venture capital, we invest in founders, and what I’ve seen here is grit and determination. From a seed stage, this idea has gone on to an IPO. That’s timeless.”

He also tipped his hat to the unsung backstage crew: “The titans get the praise, but the team Raj, Mudit, Jeet, Kailash are the heroes. Two years of hard work made this happen.”

IDFC First Bank head of retail liabilities Ashish Singh spelt out why it was backing the platform financially. “At IDFC First Bank, we believe India’s true strength lies in the aspirations of ordinary men and women with extraordinary dreams. Ideabaaz gives middle-class Indians with ideas the wings to fly. For us, it’s not just about banking, we don’t just provide banking, we provide belief.”

He laid out how the bank plans to power entrepreneurs “from idea to enterprise”: “Through zero-balance current accounts, digital-first cash management, lending products and an ecosystem of mentors and investors, we want to walk with startups from the earliest stage. Together, we’re not just launching a programme, we’re unlocking the Bharat of our dreams.”

Adding glamour to grit was Wizcraft co-founder & director Sabbas Joseph who joined as an investor and mentor. His presence underlined the show’s crossover appeal, blending entrepreneurial drama with real-world impact.

The launch also welcomed IIT Madras Research Foundation CEO Madhav Narayan who brings decades of global tech leadership to the startup fold, and Devostat, global CEO Venkat Raju known for incubating ventures in AI, fintech, healthtech and EVs.

Rounding out the ecosystem voice was ISBA (Indian STEPs and Business Incubators Association) CEO Prasad Menon who reminded the gathering that: “In India there has never been a deficit of ideas, nor of money. The deficit has been of empathy and compassion. Incubators, like Ideabaaz, exist to bridge that gap. We’re not-for-profit, we’re enablers and when the intent is strong, success is inevitable.”

From luxury brands to self-generating townships, from Tier 3 innovators to legacy business leaders, the voices at NSE agreed on one thing: Ideabaaz is not just a show, but a movement.

The platform hopes to democratise entrepreneurship in a way that India has never seen before. As Jimmy Mistry put it, the herd will follow once the first few succeed and Ideabaaz wants to ensure the runway is long enough for everyone to sprint.

Liberty Shoes executive director Anupam Bansal admitted his initial hesitation, “When Raj (Nayak) first called me about Ideabaaz, I was nervous. We’re real businesspeople, not actors. But when I came to the show, I saw it was about real people and real startups.”

He added, “Coming from a legacy business, I’ve learnt so much from the youth here, their innovation, their energy. We’ve even started collaborating with engineering institutes thanks to the ideas sparked. Supporting the ‘Made in India’ ecosystem is an honour. Our campaign ‘Mera Joota Hindustani’ aligns perfectly with this spirit.”

Perhaps the most heartfelt reflection came from V3 Ventures co-founder & managing partner Arjun Vaidya who said: “When I returned to India in 2013, the dream was to leave. Today, the dream is to build here. In 2016, only 500 startups were funded annually. I myself pitched to 75 investors and failed every single time. That’s why platforms like Ideabaaz matter, they give founders validation, not just valuation.

He recalled a standout moment, “On the show, we saw the largest deal in Indian TV history. But the best moment for me was when a founder’s mother quietly sat in the audience, then broke down in tears as her son won a deal. That’s what entrepreneurship is, it’s about families, sacrifices, and dreams taking flight.”

The tagline of Ideabaaz “Idea aapka, paisa hamara” summed up the mood. For some, it was about investments. For others, mentorship. For all, it was about creating a democratic platform where every founder, from a village kitchen innovator to a tech disruptor, could showcase their vision.

As Arjun Vaidya aptly put it, “Entrepreneurship is India’s new cricket, and founders are the new rockstars. Actors and athletes get fame, but every founder is putting in 14-hour days whether they’re doing Rs five lakh, Rs 50 lakh or Rs five crore a month. Ideabaaz finally gives them a stage.”

The launch at NSE wasn’t just a ceremonial ribbon-cutting, it was a statement. India is no longer content with being a land of job seekers; it is a nation of job creators.

With Ideabaaz, the bell has been rung. Now, it’s time to see which startups echo loudest across India’s entrepreneurial corridors.

Oneindia taps Sushant Yattam to spearhead video push

MUMBAI:  It’s hoping that this appointment will help it go one up on competition. Oneindia, India’s multilingual digital news platform, has named Sushant Yattam as business head for video as it seeks to capitalise on the country’s surging appetite for video content. The appointment signals the platform’s ambitious pivot towards video-first revenue generation and audience expansion.

Yattam brings 15 years of media and entertainment experience to the role, having held senior positions at Wizcraft, Qyuki Digital Media, Walt Disney India and UTV Indiagames. His brief centres on scaling Oneindia’s video operations and developing creator-led content strategies across the platform’s network.

“Video represents the future of digital storytelling and revenue growth,” says Oneindia chief business officer Sunder Venkatraman.  “With Sushant’s proven track record in scaling businesses and creator innovations, we’re positioned to lead the market in building an innovative video ecosystem that truly represents Bharat.”

The platform, which reaches over 280  million users, sees significant scope for video expansion as Indian audiences increasingly shift towards multilingual video formats.  Yattam aims to develop scalable intellectual properties that blend data-driven insights with regional storytelling.|

“Audiences worldwide are rapidly moving towards video and multilingual formats,” Yattam notes. “Oneindia is uniquely positioned not only to lead this transformation in India but also set benchmarks for digital markets globally.”

  • Government to launch centralised digital music licensing registry within two months

Government to launch centralised digital music licensing registry within two months

NEW DELHI:  India’s information and broadcasting ministry will roll out a centralised digital music licensing registry by October 2025, in partnership with rights societies, as part of a wider push to unlock the country’s live entertainment sector.

The decision was sealed at the inaugural meeting of the joint working group (JWG) on promoting live events, chaired on 26 August at the National Media Centre by Sanjay Jaju, secretary in the information and broadcasting ministry.

Officials from the ministries of culture, youth affairs and sports, skill development, finance and DPIIT joined, alongside the Sports Authority of India and state governments from Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. Industry bodies Ficci, CII, Eema and Ilea sat across the table from companies including BookMyShow, Wizcraft, Saregama, District by Zomato and Touchwood Entertainment. Rights societies IPRS, PPL, RMPL and IMI Trust were also present.

Key outcomes included integrating live-event approvals into the India Cine Hub portal to cut red tape, drafting a model policy for multi-use of stadiums and public spaces, and embedding live-entertainment skills in the national skills framework. Financial incentives—from GST rebates and blended finance to subsidies and MSME recognition—were also discussed.

Prime minister Narendra Modi has recently described live entertainment as an engine for jobs, tourism and cultural influence. The sector was worth Rs 20,861 crore in 2024 and is growing at 15 per cent annually, buoyed by demand in tier-one and tier-two cities and a rising appetite for music tourism.

Jaju said the government’s target is to place India among the world’s top five live-entertainment destinations by 2030, with potential to create 15–20m jobs. “The JWG will work to harness the concert economy as a driver of infrastructure growth, employment, tourism and soft power,” he said.

The JWG was formed in July on the orders of union I&B minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. It will meet regularly to review progress and feed policy recommendations, building on the white paper India’s Live Events Economy: A Strategic Growth Imperative unveiled at the Waves 2025 summit.

  • WIZCRAFT SOARS HIGH AT DEFEXPO 2020!

WIZCRAFT SOARS HIGH AT DEFEXPO 2020!

MUMBAI: Wizcraft makes a mark at DefExpo 2020 – Asia’s largest Defence Exhibition organized by the Dept. of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India – held in Lucknow from 5th to 9th February. The theme was ‘Digital transformation of Defence’ – with a focus on the latest technologies and systems powering Indian Defence.

Rohit Samuel, Vice President, Wizcraft, says – “Conceptualizing & managing the major proceedings involved nearly 4 months of rigorous research, creative planning and management. Over 40 Wizzes and 200 volunteers were involved in executing this on ground. Dedicated teams were aligned & they worked closely with the teams within DDP – to deliver impactful concept, content, design and experience.”

Wizcraft seamlessly managed the Inaugural Ceremony, the India Pavilion, the 5th India-Russia Military Industrial Conference, the 1st ever India Africa Defence Ministers Conclave, Bandhan (an official meet for Signing of MoUs, Product Launches & Major Announcements), and the Valedictory function. Wizcraft also handled Media & Advertising pan India, overall venue branding, and some key publications for the Ministry of Defence.

The event kicked off on a grand note, with an Inaugural Ceremony graced by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Hon’ble Defence Minister, Hon’ble Chief Minister of UP & the Chief of Defence Staff, among other notable dignitaries. The Prime Minister digitally launched the curtain raiser – an interactive film delivered through a powerful performance. Sam Panchmukhi, National Creative Mentor, said “The thematic opening was an invocation to indigenous innovation and reflected the spirit of DefExpo 2020. We designed it as a glorious tribute to the spirit of innovation in India and how it has evolved over thousands of years till today. It also highlighted the new command structure of Defence today with a joint salute by three young officers from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. Augmented Reality was integrated, and a nose salute by two virtual Tejas aircrafts was the highlight of the Opening Act.”

The dignitaries then visited the India Pavilion – called ‘India Defence Technosphere’. The journey began at the dome or ‘Cyberverse’, which resembled a futuristic Command & Control centre. Here, the Prime Minister launched a ‘digital wave’ spanning 14 panoramic LED screens. This led to an immersive film showcasing indigenous systems, net-centric warfare, and how the Indian Armed Forces are gearing up for jointness & future battles. The exhibition area was divided into 7 thematic zones, and featured 160+ cutting-edge products by major Industry players & Startups. Transformation journeys of landmark systems & Make in India success stories were also captured through innovative & interactive media.

Misha Rao, Copy Head, Brand Activation, reflects on the India Pavilion – “The task was to convert 3000 sqm of space into a memorable showcase and a meeting ground for the Industry, Ministry, Business Delegates and Public. Conceptualizing & designing this ‘Technosphere’ was both fun and challenging. From the intensively curated product showcase, to the net-centric warfare simulation – everything demanded deep-diving into the subject matter. We wanted both business and common visitors to witness India’s Defence prowess, and understand how the Defence industry is evolving through technology. To achieve this, we created installations which conveyed the stories in an interactive & comprehensible manner.”

Sanjay Jaju, Joint Secretary (Defence Industrial Production), remarked, “It was a meticulous process and a labour of love of 6 months that led to the creation of India Pavilion. The creative think tank at Wizcraft did due justice to the theme, and enabled us in creating the right impact with the ‘India Defence Technosphere’. It was a central attraction at DefExpo 2020. The facade, command centre, tech installations all created an experience of being inside a tech hub. The quality of work was great, resulting in an immersive, informative & entertaining experience for all. The outcome was a world class showcase of our indigenous products driving Digital transformation of Defence.”

Chandraker Bharti, Joint Secretary (Aerospace) shared, “DefExpo 2020 was one of the most challenging projects for the Ministry of Defence. Our primary focus was to create a world class Defence exhibition in this part of the world. Wizcraft conceptualized and curated an engaging and immersive experience for all our visitors. Everything from the Inaugural Ceremony & Seminars, to the Valedictory function were managed smoothly. We received extremely positive feedback from all stakeholders and are delighted that we could showcase India as a major global player in Defence production.”

DefExpo 2020 was attended by senior Govt. Officials, Indian & International Military Officers, 2500+ delegates from 70 countries, and over 3 lakh visitors. Indeed a grand salute to Indian Defence!
