  • NOT W+K puts an end to humblebragging for The One Show

NOT W+K puts an end to humblebragging for The One Show

Mumbai: NOT W+K, Wieden+Kennedy London’s standalone design and branding studio, unveiled a cheeky visual approach to the 2024 One Show awards with the launch of “The One to Brag About.” The new campaign, featuring a humorous ChatGPT-powered bot, aims to shift the narrative surrounding award shows, encouraging individuals not only to promote and enter The One Show, but also to celebrate juries, nominations, wins, and more.

The hero piece of the concept is The One Show Brag Bot—a ChatGPT-powered brag generator on a single-minded mission: to put an end to the humblebrag.  The bot recognizes that entering, judging, or winning The One Show is properly worth bragging about, and provides dozens of menu options to create witty brags.

The AI tool helps judges, nominees, and winners of The One Show brag about their achievements. It’s also open to anyone beyond The One Show, helping people brag about random things such as new jobs, promotions, how hard they’re working, and even the infamous, “I had that idea first!”

Shortly after opening its doors at the beginning of 2023, NOT W+K was tapped by The One Club for Creativity to curate a fresh and creative visual identity for the upcoming One Show award season that went beyond design aesthetics. To do so, NOT W+K leaned into the truth around awards: we aren’t comfortable bragging about them, but they’re certainly worth bragging about.

    Brag Bot: PROMOTION

Rooted in the anxiety and hesitations around self-promotion within awards culture in the advertising industry, NOT W+K created “The One to Brag About” to invite people to see the funny side of humblebragging, all while celebrating wins unashamedly.

This approach was the driving force for the tone of voice for the entire platform, making the role of visual identity two-fold: to be simple enough to get out of the way of the big idea, and to create a beautifully crafted, traditional, non-digital counterpoint to the very current, very digital technology that sits at the heart of “The One to Brag About.”

What does it mean to win at One Show?

The Brag Bot is accompanied by a suite of videos, including a teaser film and a quick step-by-step guide on “How to Brag with Brag Bot,” among others. The bot can be utilized across social media channels, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and X. Visit The One Show Brag Bot now to start celebrating.

    Introducing… Brag Bot

“We want to get people talking about The One Show in a way that feels fun and relatable,” said The One Club CEO Kevin Swanepoel. “As an industry, we should champion the efforts that go into the world-class creativity that people, agencies, and brands put out around the world. ‘The One to Brag About’ recognizes and celebrates the fact that entering, judging, and winning at The One Show is truly something to boast about.”

“How do you find a new way to talk about awards?  We thought long and hard about this, and awards culture in general,” added NOT W+K director of branding & design Anika Ramani. “Trawling through social media and looking inward, our insight was staring us in the face. We’ve all been guilty of humblebragging. Everywhere we looked, people were posting about their achievements but doing their best to make it seem nonchalant. We wanted to flip this norm on its head, have people own the brag, help people who don’t know how to brag, and give our industry a reason to celebrate.”

Entries to The One Show 2024 can be submitted now, with fees increasing after each deadline period. The regular deadline is 26 January 2024, the extended deadline is 16 February 2024, and the final deadline is 1 March 2024.

The complete list of more than 250 top creatives who will serve on The One Show 2024 juries can be viewed here. Finalists will be announced in April 2024, and Gold, Silver, and Bronze Pencil and Merit winners will be unveiled during Creative Week in New York, 13-17 May 2024.

  • Ayesha Ghosh joins Wieden+Kennedy as managing director for India; Gautham Narayan moves on

Ayesha Ghosh joins Wieden+Kennedy as managing director for India; Gautham Narayan moves on

Mumbai: Wieden+Kennedy has announced that Ayesha Ghosh has been appointed as managing director for India. Ghosh, who will be based in Mumbai, officially starts at W+K on 15 July and will partner with India CCO Santosh Padhi.

Present WK Delhi managing director Gau Narayanan, who is leaving India and the agency to return home to the UK, will help with the transition through August.

Ghosh joins the agency after six years at Taproot Dentsu where she held the role of CEO, based in Mumbai. She joined Taproot in December 2015 as general manager, and was promoted to CEO in 2021.

Prior to Taproot, Ghosh was part of the leadership team for Contract Advertising for over a decade, helping build and grow the agency’s presence. Here she worked closely with the consulting and design practices, to help expand sources of growth. Previous to Contract Advertising, she held permanent positions in a number of industry shops including Grey Worldwide, Trikaya Grey and PSL McCann Erickson.

On her new role, Ghosh commented, “It’s astonishing how W+K consistently produces off-the-charts work, across the world. I hope to absorb some of that genius and with the help of a talented team in India and an ace like Paddy, create some genius of our own. With scattered attention and infinite distractions, only work that is honest and primal, will win for brands. And that’s what we mean to do.”

Padhi said, “I’m glad Ayesha is joining us to be part of this wonderful journey. She is absolutely blunt and honest when it comes to work, which is extremely important these days for our business. Clients too prefer to have conversations that cut to the chase. Ayesha and I have worked closely together for a good number of years at Taproot, we understand and complement each other.

“An organisation is known by the kind of people that work for it and both of us will be focusing on putting together a crazy, talented bunch of people, across departments. And we believe that magic will follow,” he further said.

Wieden+Kennedy Global CEO Neal Arthur added, “Ayesha’s first day is a great day for W+K. W+K India has big things ahead. Their collective creative ambition, optimism and connection to both local and global culture will no doubt usher in the next wave of transformation for the brands they work with. We are excited and grateful to have Ayesha with us.”

Wieden+Kennedy brings in Santosh Padhi as CCO for India

Mumbai: Wieden+Kennedy (W+K) on Tuesday announced the appointment of Santosh ‘Paddy’ Padhi as chief creative officer (CCO) for India. W+K has been established in Delhi since 2007.

“The hire also means an expansion for the independent creative agency into Mumbai, where Paddy will build out the shop’s second India location,” said the company in a statement.

In this new role, Padhi will build out a leadership, talent and client roster for the expanded India shop. Dean Wei, who has been the executive creative director leading W+K Delhi since 2019, is leaving the agency later this year to return to London.

“W+K have always raised the creative product of our industry for the last 3-4 decades, they were one of my inspirations when Taproot was set up,” Padhi said. “In a business like ours you are as good as the kind of people you have on board—there are some wonderful minds in Delhi and I’m once again fortunate to hand pick some more wonderful people to join us and expand our presence into Mumbai.”

Padhi started his advertising career 25 years ago after graduating from art school in Mumbai. He founded Taproot in 2009, and the agency quickly became one of India’s most prominent creative agencies, picking up critical acclaim, accolades and awards.

Earning over 200 international awards (including two dozen Cannes Lions, and multiple Golds and Grand Prix titles from different award shows) and over 300 local awards, Padhi is one of the most awarded creatives in India.

“Paddy is a transformative creative leader with an impressive track record building creative companies and brands, and making work that is really centered in culture,” stated Wieden+Kennedy global chief creative officer Karl Lieberman. “We feel lucky to have him join us at a time when we really want to connect further to the creative people and culture in India. We are excited about the future of Wieden+Kennedy in India.”

  • Wieden+Kennedy appoints Gautham Narayanan as MD for Delhi biz

Wieden+Kennedy appoints Gautham Narayanan as MD for Delhi biz

MUMBAI: Wieden+Kennedy has appointed Gautham Narayanan as the new managing director for its Delhi office.

Narayanan will work alongside executive creative directors Molona Wati Longchar and Shuchi Thakur.

The position was previously held by Siddarth Loyal, who left the agency earlier this month.

Narayanan, who is currently based in South Africa, will relocate to Delhi and take his post in September. The transition is being managed by W+K alum Patrick Cahill, who spent nearly seven years with the agency in New York and Delhi, where he held the managing director role from 2015-17 before starting his own creative consultancy CAHILL&PARTNERS.

Narayanan has spent the majority of his career at BBDO, most recently as regional director for BBDO Africa and managing director, BBDO South Africa, where he helped land several new business wins, including Google Africa, and focused on talent development across the agency’s four African offices.

Narayanan is credited with spearheading the recent business turnaround at BBDO South Africa by driving revenue growth and doubling profits in just three years.

On his appointment, Narayanan says, “I have always admired the simplicity and smarts of Wieden+Kennedy’s work, from afar. For me, W+K’s ability to infiltrate popular culture has been the key to their success. It’s a simple formula that drives fame for the brands they serve, which in turn, drives commercial success for their clients’ business.”

“I consider myself lucky to have worked for BBDO my whole career, and I can honestly say Wieden+Kennedy was the only agency network I considered leaving BBDO for. W+K’s independent culture and belief in compelling ideas, paired the opportunity to partner with extraordinary clients and lead an office in my country of birth, was too tempting to resist,” he adds.

W+K chief operating officer Neil Christie mentions, “We’re delighted that Gautham will bring his experience, energy and enthusiasm for groundbreaking work to Wieden+Kennedy Delhi. I am confident that under Gau’s leadership W+K will go from strength to strength in India.”

W+K Delhi opened in 2007 and works with a number of blue-chip global and local clients, including Airbnb, Audi, Dalmia, Fabindia Home, IndiGo Airlines, Nike and Royal Enfield. Famous for award-winning work like Nike DaDaDing, creating the potent brand voice that made IndiGo India’s largest airline and telling the authentic stories that helped build Royal Enfield into a global cult brand, W+K Delhi has grown in the past year with the addition of Indian icon Fabindia as well as global clients such as Airbnb. The agency is committed to pushing these clients into new territories in the digital and experiential space, a speciality of the Delhi office.
