    Dish TV’s Watcho registers 45 million users in India

    Mumbai: Dish TV’s India’s OTT platform Watcho has achieved a 45 million cumulative user base in India, the company said in a statement. Launched in 2019 with the brand proposition of ‘Fun Fatafat,’ Watcho brings original and on-the-go snackable video content across genres and formats (including live TV) to its viewers.

    The platform currently provides over 35 original shows, 300 exclusive plays, and 100 live channels in Hindi, Kannada and Telugu.

    So as to recognise and reward the emerging talent pool across the country, Watcho allows users to create and showcase their content on its user-generated content platform – Watcho Swag. To this end, it recently collaborated with the India Film Project (IFP) for its 11th season, becoming the exclusive platform for participants to exhibit their work

    “When we embarked on the journey of providing on-demand quality content with the launch of Watcho, we wanted to supplement our DTH user viewing experience. Today, Watcho is serving exciting exclusive content to all its users, and at the same time, it is also offering Live TV services on the go to DishTV and D2H customers,” said Dish TV India executive director and group CEO Anil Dua. “It is also fast emerging as the preferred platform for users to showcase their talent.” 

    Watcho’s content repertoire includes original shows like “Gupta Niwas,” “Jaunpur,” “Papa Ka Scooter,” “Aghaat,” “Cheaters – The Vacation,” “Sarhad,” “Mystery Dad,” “JaalSaazi,” “Dark Destinations,” “It’s My Pleasure,” “4 Thieves,” “Love Crisis,” “Ardhsatya,” “Chhoriyan,” and “Rakhta Chandana.” There are also original influencer shows like “Look I Can Cook” and “Bikhare Hain Alfaaz.”

    Mumbai: Dish TV India’s OTT platform Watcho has partnered with Asia’s noted content festival India Film Project (IFP) for its 11th season to encourage emerging artists and content creators to showcase their work.

    Watcho will exclusively host three of IFP’s prominent challenges including ‘50 Hour Filmmaking Challenge,’ ‘50 Hour Music Challenge,’ and ‘7 Day Storytelling Challenge.’ Participants can submit their original content on Watcho’s creator platform Watcho Swag, and subsequently view their entries on the app, said the statement.

    Apart from other prizes, Watcho-IFP winners will get an opportunity to showcase their content on TV. Winners will be announced during the four-day virtual festival starting from 22 October, it added.

    “At Watcho, we aim to bring fresh, short-form and on-the-go snackable video content for our viewers across genres. We are providing a platform for emerging content creators to exhibit their talent and reach a large audience with Watcho Swag,”said Dish TV India’s corporate head of marketing DishTV and Watcho Sukhpreet Singh. “Our partnership with IFP will provide them with significant exposure to a broader audience while allowing viewers to access the repository of creative and unique user-generated content.”

    KOLKATA: Dish TV India’s OTT Watcho has surpassed 25 million subscribers, a new milestone for the platform that provides snackable and on-the-go entertainment.

    Watcho has brought a unique assortment of delectable content such as Sarhad, The Jail Plan, Jaalsaazi, 4 Thieves, Love Crisis and Ardhsatya. The platform boasts of 50 original web-shows, 115 Live TV channels and 800+ hours of engaging content across diverse genres.  Furthermore, with the launch of original shows across different languages like Hindi, Kannada and Telugu and original influencer shows such as Look I Can Cook, Bikhare Hain Alfaaz, etc, viewers across the country and across segments can enjoy their favorite content.

    Committed to delivering an innovative and engaging content experience to its users, Watcho, Dish TV India’s OTT platform has announced the launch of ‘Watcho Aur Jeeto‘- an engaging quiz contest. The contest will be running daily with additional bonanza offers on weekends. Each quiz will have a specific set of questions that will be shared on the platform as well as telecast on Dish TV and D2H platforms, throughout the day at periodic intervals. Users can participate by logging in on the Watcho App or on the website watcho.com and submitting responses.   

    Watcho content is already a big draw for its subscribers and this contest will enable Watcho to connect and engage with its subscribers in a new way. The trivia quiz will be based on different subjects like trending topics, entertainment, lifestyle, and popular shows on Watcho.     Dish TV to push 50% STB manufacturing in India

    KOLKATA: Dish TV India Ltd announced the manufacturing of its set-top boxes in India. Demonstrating its commitment to the government’s ‘Make in India’ vision, Dish TV India has shifted the production of its set-top boxes to India, adopting a ‘vocal for local’ strategy. The first consignment of made in India set-top boxes is ready and being shipped to the market. The company offers DTH services across the country and operates Dish TV, D2H, and Zing brands in this segment, besides its rapidly growing OTT service brand Watcho.

    Being the pioneer and technology leader in the DTH segment, Dish TV India plans to shift almost 50 per cent of its production to India by the Q1 of 2021 while simultaneously benefitting its business and customers. The process will further intensify in the coming months, as the company is planning to also start the manufacturing of the major components of the set-top box and its accessories in India, further boosting its commitment to ‘vocal for local’. Dish TV India plans to make the STB cabinet in India soon, has already started procuring the power adaptor from Indian manufacturers, and is in the advanced stage of talks with remote control manufacturers to produce the remote controls also in India.

    Elaborating Dish TV India’s ‘Make in India’ plan, Dish TV India chairman and managing director Jawahar Goel said, “We are thrilled to join the government of India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative and localize the manufacturing of set-top boxes and other key accessories in India only.     By shifting the production to India, the company looks at scaling manufacturing in the country and ways to enable industry revival. This will further assist them to streamline the supply chain, operations, and management.

    MUMBAI: Leading DTH company Dish TV India has rolled out a variety of short format, snackable original content on its OTT platform Watcho in response to the increase in the viewing needs of their customers,

    Over the past one month, the platform has witnessed a 50 per cent surge in content consumption, leading to a steep hike in their subscriber base and adding 1 million new subscribers in a month bringing it up to 3.0 million. Watcho has also seen a spike in the time spent by viewers on the platform during March 2020. This sudden increase can be attributed to the recently added new and fresh content on the platform and the overall surge in consumption of content during the ongoing lockdown.

    Additionally, during the lockdown period, Watcho’s streaming bandwidth has been better optimized to reduce network load on the internet by reducing the native resolution of the app to 480p without compromising on the quality. The company undertook this move to ensure the delivery of uninterrupted content to the viewers and keep them entertained 24*7.
