    ‘Lost’ producer Abrams leaves Disney for Warner, Paramount

    MUMBAI: With one of the biggest television shows in the US Lost under his belt J.J. Abrams is hot property. The man who also directed Mission Impossible 3 has signed a five-year film deal with Paramount Pictures and a six-year TV contract with Warner Bros.

    Together, they are worth more than $55 million.
    With this, Abrams leaves Disney’s Touchstone. ABC later this year will unveil three Abrams-produced shows. Media reports indicate that he had been there for seven years making many shows.

    However what made the difference was the fact that Disney was firm on the fact that revenue from his current shows would be included in the amount of money it would have guaranteed him each year under a new deal.

    Reports add that if Abrams’ shows for Warner are successful the sky is the limit. He will get around 35 per cent of the backend. This means revenues from syndication, DVDs, net downloads etc. His production firm is called Brad Robot.

    Abrams will get around $five million for directing a Star Trek film for Paramount and he will get some backend, should the film make a tidy profit. He is said to be keen to make films that cost less than $25 million as there are important stories that can be told.

    MUMBAI: Wurld Media, creator of peer-to-peer (p2p) service Peer Impact, has announced that select movies and television titles from Fox and Warner Bros. are now available via digital download on their entertainment network in the US market.

    This announcement follows Peer Impact’s agreement with NBC Universal to include their catalogues of movie and television event titles for on-demand rental, also now available on the service, making Peer Impact the first p2p model to offer content from three major motion picture studios.

    The company says that as major content providers continue to address the growing demand for online distribution methods, Peer Impact presents a solution by enabling users to legally download and share licensed content while protecting both the license holders and the consumer.

    Warner, AOL prepare for the return of Superman on In2TV

    MUMBAI: In order to create excitement around its upcoming movie, Superman Returns, Warner Bros. and US internet service provider AOL have launched a special Superman Channel on the entertainment site In2TV www.aol.com/in2tv to celebrate the Man of Steel.

    In2TV claims to be the largest offering of popular television series available online for free and the destination for watching full TV episodes. The Superman Channel is available now through the end of next month.

    In2TV’s Superman Channel will also feature the new A&E documentary Look, Up In the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman directed by Bryan Singer, in its online and on-demand debut. The documentary, narrated by Superman Returns star Kevin Spacey, features behind-the-scenes clips of Superman Returns, Superman fans Jerry Seinfeld, Gene Simmons and Mark Hamill, comic book legend Stan Lee and more.

    The Superman Channel will also have the TV series The Adventures of Superman. The series starred George Reeves is back. Fans can reconnect with the original live action version of America’s favourite superhero in his never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.

    Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman — The sci-fi television series had romantically united the duo while exploring the odd love relationship that develops between a modern career woman who falls head-over-heals for Superman while not realizing that he is also her best friend, Clark Kent. It stars Teri Hatcher who is now back in the limelight thanks to Desperate Housewives and Dean Cain. Fans can see how the couple works out their differences.

    The channel will also have Superboy which premiered on American television in 1988. In this, fans join Clark during his college-years at Shuster University. The mild-mannered journalism student battles his arch-nemesis, Lex Luther, while trying to sweep Lana Lang off her feet. The Superboy series introduces “Superman” arch-villains Metallo and Bizzaro.

    MUMBAI: US internet service provider AOL and Warner have announced that ‘In2TV’ which claims to be the largest offering of television series available online for free, has launched two new channels.

    Gone But Not Forgotten TV showcases shows that have been cancelled. Get Real TV is a reality TV channel offering some of the most sought-after unscripted, relationship and court series in this arena. ‘In2TV’ also adds twelve new series including many episodes that have never aired on television and more than a dozen new video features.

    Gone But Not Forgotten TV has got in its line up recently aired series. These short-lived shows can be seen with never-before-seen episodes, clips, trivia and games. Wanda Sykes stars in Wanda at Large. This is a sitcom about an outspoken comedian-turned-news reporter that aired a couple of years ago.

    Michael Richards, who starred in Seinfeld returned to television with The Michael Richards Show. He played a bumbling detective. The sitcom was Richards’ debut project post Seinfeld and In2TV is premiering the never-broadcast original pilot episode.

    Center of the Universe stars John Goodman as a father raising a family despite his extended brood’s mettlesome antics. Jean Smart, Ed Asner, and Olympia Dukakis also star in this 2005 sitcom. One of the shows that Get Real TV will air is ElimiDate. This is a survival dating show. The Will is a cut-throat reality competition accentuating the love and greed in every family.

    McDonald’s and Warner Home Video introduce new live action home entertainment DVDs

    MUMBAI: Children will be entertained and inspired to achieve happy active lives as McDonald’s and Warner Home Video (WHV) unveil two live-action home entertainment specials, with McKids Adventures Volume 1: Get Up and Go with Ronald and McKids Adventures Volume 2: Treasure Hunt with Ronald. Both will be available on 15 August 2006 and will be available globally.

    Produced in association with Dic Entertainment, the worldwide licensor for the McKids brand, The McKids Adventures DVD specials are part of McDonald’s active lifestyle campaign which promotes physical activity.

    In each DVD, Ronald McDonald leads a group of children through various adventures that entertain, engage and inspire while providing opportunities for singing and dancing along the way. Volume 1 and 2 will be sold separately and each will retail at $14.98.

    “We are pleased to be able to offer parents high-quality videos that not only educate and entertain children, but also encourage them at an early age to develop an active lifestyle. Ronald McDonald is loved and admired by kids around the world. Children look up to him as a wonderful role model and he’s the ideal personality to star in this DVD series,” said Warner Home Video vice president kids and sports marketing Dorinda Marticorena.

    The DVDs are packed with original music videos which are sure to get kids up on their feet and participating in the fun.

    WHV will promote the debut of McKids Adventures Volume 1: Get Up and Go with Ronald and McKids Adventures Volume 2: Treasure Hunt with Ronald with a broad consumer advertising campaign that encompasses national television and print media outlets. McKids Adventures will be trailered on all WHV Kids Summer and Fall DVD releases as well as in select McDonald’s restaurants.
