    Cameras roll on ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’

    MUMBAI: Filming is underway on Warner Bros Pictures’ ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, an adventure from director Zack Snyder, starring Henry Cavill in the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

     

    The film also stars Gal Gadot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, with Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane returning from ‘Man of Steel’, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter in a role newly created for the film.

     

    It is written by Chris Terrio from a screenplay by David S. Goyer.  Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

     

    The film will be mostly shot at Michigan Motion Picture Studios and on location in and around Detroit, Michigan; Illinois; Africa; and the South Pacific.

    ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ climbs to more than $800 million worldwide

    BURBANK: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug has crossed $800 million at the worldwide box office, with markets still to open. The film, a production of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), has thus far grossed an estimated $242.2 million domestically and $566 million internationally, for a worldwide estimated total of $808.2 million to date.

     

    The joint announcement was made today by Gary Barber, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios; Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Operating Officer, New Line Cinema; Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures; Dan Fellman, President of Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures; and Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, President of International Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

     

    “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” is the second film in Oscar®-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson’s epic “The Hobbit” Trilogy, based on the timeless novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. The first film, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” was released on December 14, 2012, and went on to become a billion dollar success at the worldwide box office. Now in its fourth week in release, the film remains in the top five in the U.S. and continues to ranked #1 internationally across 62 territories, with China releasing February 21, followed by Japan on February 28.

     

    In making the announcement, Fellman said, “Peter Jackson has once again proven to be the perfect guide for an adventure through Middle-earth. As ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ continues to delight audiences in the New Year, we congratulate him and everyone involved in the film on another box office milestone.”

    Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf the Grey, with Martin Freeman in the central role of Bilbo Baggins, and Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield. The international ensemble cast is led by Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Stephen Fry, Ken Stott, James Nesbitt, and Orlando Bloom as Legolas.     The screenplay for “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro based on the novel by J.R.R. Tolkien. Jackson also produced the film, together with Carolynne Cunningham, Zane Weiner and Fran Walsh. The executive producers are Alan Horn, Toby Emmerich, Ken Kamins and Carolyn Blackwood, with Philippa Boyens and Eileen Moran serving as co-producers.

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros Pictures is set to release their new film, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, on 3 February.

    The sequel to the first digital 3D film Journey to the Center of the Earth released in 2008, begins when seventeen-year-old Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) receives a coded distress signal from a mysterious island where no island should exist.

    Unable to stop him from tracking the signal to its source, Sean’s new stepfather, Hank (The Rock – Dwayne Johnson), joins the quest that will take them first to the South Pacific and then to a place few people have ever seen – or lived to tell about. It’s a place of stunning beauty, strange and threatening life forms, volcanoes, mountains of gold and more than one astonishing secret.

    Together with Gabato (Luis Guzmán), the only helicopter pilot willing to risk the trip, and Gabato’s beautiful, strong-willed daughter Kailani (Vanessa Hudgens), they set out to find the island, rescue its lone human inhabitant and escape before seismic shockwaves force the island underwater and bury its treasures forever.

    The film also stars Michael Caine as Sean’s grandfather Alexander, the stranded traveler they’re seeking, and Kristin Davis as Sean’s mother, Liz.

    Shot in 3D, the film has been directed by Brad Peyton. The Film will be released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu across India. It will also be released in IMAX theatres worldwide.

    Warner Bros. to release J Edgar on 20 January

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures will release Leonardo DiCaprio starrer J. Edgar on 20 January.

    Directed by Clint Eastwood, the film explores the personal and public life and relationships of a man who could distort the truth as easily as he upheld it during a life devoted to his own idea of justice.

    Edgar Hoover was one of the most powerful men in America. As head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for nearly 50 years, he would stop at nothing to protect his country. Through eight presidents and three wars, Hoover waged battle against threats, often bending the rules to keep his countrymen safe. He was a man who placed great value on secrets and was as guarded in his private life as he was in his public one, allowing only a small and protective inner circle into his confidence.

    The film also stars Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Josh Lucas and Judi Dench.

    J. Edgar has been produced by Eastwood, Brian Grazer and Robert Lorenz, with Tim Moore and Erica Huggins serving as executive producers.

    Warner Bros India unveils 2012 line-up

    MUMBAI: This is the time when production houses declare their line-up of releases for the coming year.

    Following that of Sony Picture, Warner Bros Pictures India has announced its movie-line of 2012.

    The production house will release 15 films next year. It will start with the release of J Edgar on 20 January and will follow it up with Journey2: The Mysterious Island in 3D on 3 February, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close on 17 February.

    The releases of the next two months will begin with Wrath Of The Titans in 3D that will release on 30 March to be followed by The Lucky One that will take a bow in cinema houses on 20 April.

    Release in the month of May and June include Dark Shadows on 11 May, Rock of Ages on 1 June and Jack The Giant Killer on 15 June. While The Dark Knight Rises releases on 20 July, 24 August will see the release of Rivals.

    September will have two releases, Appartition and Argo on 7 and 14 September respectively, the month of October and November will have one release each month. Gangster Squad will release on 19 October and Gravity (3D) on 23 November.

    The last month December, that rounds up the year‘s slate has two releases. While The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (3D) will release on 14 December, The Great Gatsby (3D) will release on Christmas Day 25 December.
    The last release of Warner Bros this year will be Sherlock Holmes 2 that will release on December 30.

    Amitabh Bachchan set to make Hollywood debut

    MUMBAI: For the first time in his 40-year career, Amitabh Bachchan will be making his Hollywood debut with Baz Luhrmann‘s The Great Gatsby that will have Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire in lead roles.

    “Amitabh, who is lovingly called Big B in the Indian film industry, is the latest to join the cast of the romantic drama, along with Scottish-Australian actress Isla Fisher. He will play the role of Meyer Wolfsheim,” said an official statement from Warner Bros Pictures.

    The $125 million project is a 3D adaptation of the classic F Scott Fitzgerald novel of the same name. The principal photography of the movie began this week in Sydney.

    “Fitzgerald loved the movies and was a passionate believer in the power of cinema. The Great Gatsby has been adapted for the screen no less than four times. Fitzgerald‘s story defies time and geography. The vision and the goal of our remarkable cast and creative is to do justice to the deftness of Fitzgerald‘s telling, and illuminate its big ideas and humanity. This is our challenge and our adventure,” said Luhrmann.

    Others who can be seen in the film are Joel Edgerton, Carey Mulligan and debutante Elizabeth Debicki.

    The film will be distributed in 3D and 2D by Warner Bros Pictures and in certain territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

    PVR partners Warner Bros to launch Harry Potter film festival


    MUMBAI: Multiplex major PVR Cinemas has entered into an exclusive partnership with Warner Bros Pictures for a Harry Potter Film Festival in India.


    The seven-day festival, scheduled from 7 – 13 July, will bring back the nostalgia of all the Harry Potter movies across three cities – Gurgaon (PVR Ambience Mall), Mumbai (PVR Phoenix Mill) and Bangalore (PVR Forum Mall), the company said.


    The tickets will be priced at the lowest band in the respective cinemas. Festival passes for the entire seven movies will also be available for all Harry Potter fans. The festival will culminate with the premiere of the latest release of the series – Harry Potter Deathly Hollows Part II on Wednesday, 13 July at PVR Priya New Delhi and PVR Cinemas in Bangalore and Chennai.
