    Eddie Redmayne cast in Warner Bros’ wizarding world adventure

    MUMBAI: Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Newt Scamander in Warner Bros. Pictures’ wizarding world adventure Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    Redmayne will play J.K. Rowling’s creation Newt Scamander, the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures president of creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman said, “Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

     

    Making her screenwriting debut on the film, Rowling has developed the character of Scamander and his primer – taken from her Harry Potter series – to further explore the unique wizarding world she has crafted in print and bring it to life on screen.

     

    David Yates, who directed the last four Harry Potter films, will direct Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    “Eddie is a fearless actor, brimming with invention, wit and humanity. I couldn’t be more excited about the prospect of working with him as we start this new adventure in J.K. Rowling’s wonderful world, and I know she feels the same way,” said Yates.

     

    The film is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight Harry Potter features; Rowling; Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films; and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the franchise.

     

    Redmayne won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2014 biopic The Theory of Everything. His stunning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in that film also brought him Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures will release Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 3D and Imax on 18 November, 2016.

    Imax & Warner Bros extend multi-film deal through 2020

    MUMBAI: Imax Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures have entered into a multi-picture agreement to release up to 30 films from the studio’s slate through 2020 as a continuation of the companies’ longstanding partnership.

     

    Under the agreement, Imax will be part of a number of high-profile tentpoles from Warner Bros. Pictures, including The Man from U.N.C.L.E. In the Heart of the SeaBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Tarzan movie, the King Arthur movie, Suicide SquadGeostormFantastic Beasts and Where to Find ThemJungle Book: Origins, and Godzilla 2.

     

    The deal also encompasses a number of upcoming DC tentpoles, as well as future LEGO movies, including The LEGO Movie Sequel.

     

    “We’ve had an incredible partnership with Warner Bros. for more than 10 years, which has helped Imax filmgoers enjoy Warner movies around the world. We’re excited and grateful to extend that partnership,” said Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond.

    ‘Hangover’ director Todd Phillips begins shooting for ‘Arms & the Dudes’

    MUMBAI: Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Arms & the Dudes, starring Oscar nominee Jonah Hill and Miles Teller.

     

    The Hangover trilogy director and Oscar nominee Todd Phillips is directing the film.

     

    Based on a true story, Arms & the Dudes follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a $300 million deal to arm the Afghan Military – a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.

     

    Phillips directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Smilovic, and Stephen C. Chin, based on the Rolling Stone article by Guy Lawson. Phillips and Bradley Cooper, under the banner of their 22nd & Green Productions, and Mark Gordon, under the banner of The Mark Gordon Company, are producing the film. The executive producers are David Siegel and Bryan Zuriff.

     

    Filming began on location in Romania, and shooting is also being accomplished in Las Vegas, Southern California, Miami, and in Morocco.

     

    Arms & the Dudes reunites Phillips with several of his collaborators from The Hangover trilogy, including director of photography Lawrence Sher, production designer Bill Brzeski and editor Jeff Groth. Joining the team is costume designer Michael Kaplan.

     

    The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment company.

    Warner Bros. begins principal photography of ‘The Jungle Book’ movie

    MUMBAI: Principal photography has begun on Warner Bros. Pictures’ new big-screen, 3D adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s beloved classic The Jungle Book, marking the feature film directorial debut of Andy Serkis. Blending live action and performance capture, the film features an impressive roster of stars, including Oscar winners Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett and Oscar nominee Benedict Cumberbatch.

     

    The story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli, raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo and a panther named Bagheera, Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.

     

    The actors performing the roles of the story’s central animal characters are: Benedict Cumberbatch as the tiger – Shere Khan; Cate Blanchett as Kaa – the snake; Christian Bale as the panther – Bagheera; Andy Serkis as Baloo, the bear; Peter Mullan as the leader of the wolf pack, Akela; Tom Hollander as the scavenging hyena – Tabaqui; Naomie Harris as Nisha, the female wolf, who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; Eddie Marsan as Nisha’s mate – Vihaan; and Jack Reynor as Mowgli’s Brother Wolf. On the human side, young actor Rohan Chand will play the boy raised by wolves – Mowgli.

     

    The film is being produced by Steve Kloves, who wrote seven of the Harry Potter films, and Jonathan Cavendish, with Nikki Penny serving as executive producer. The screenplay is by Callie Kloves, based on the stories by Kipling.

     

    Among those collaborating with Serkis behind the scenes are production designer Gary Freeman, Oscar-winning editor Mark Sanger and Oscar-winning costume designer Alexandra Byrne.

     

    The film is slated for release on 6 October, 2017.

    ‘American Sniper’ becomes highest-grossing film of 2014

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ American Sniper has surpassed two more major milestones, emerging as the top-grossing domestic release of 2014. The film has also surpassed half a billion dollars worldwide, and still climbing. 

     

    To date, the film has grossed an estimated $337.2 million at the domestic box office, and still counting, making it the highest-grossing film in director Clint Eastwood’s long and illustrious career. Among its many other records, American Sniper is also the number one war movie of all time and the top-grossing film in the career of Bradley Cooper, who earned his third consecutive Oscar nomination, for his portrayal of the film’s title character, Chris Kyle.

     

    In addition to its North American success, American Sniper is drawing large numbers of moviegoers overseas, where it is currently in release in 57 markets. The film, to date, has earned an estimated $163 million at the international box office, for an extraordinary worldwide total of $500.2 million and rising.

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Oscar-nominated blockbuster American Sniper continues to make cinema history, crossing $300 million at the North American box office.

     

    Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper and Sienna Miller, American Sniper has continued to fill conventional and IMAX theatres nationwide. It is now the top-grossing war movie of all time, Bradley Cooper’s biggest live-action feature ever, and the second-highest-grossing R-rated drama ever. In addition, it is the first Warner Bros. non-franchise film, only the seventh Warner Bros. release of any kind, and one of only 50 films in cinema history to achieve this milestone domestically.

    American Sniper, from a screenplay written by Jason Hall, is based on the book by Chris Kyle, with Jim DeFelice and Scott McEwen.

     

    The movie has earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Cooper), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Jason Hall). In addition, Eastwood was honored by his peers with his fourth Directors Guild of America Award nomination and also won the National Board of Review Award for Best Director. The film’s other honors include a Producers Guild of America Award nomination, a Writers Guild of America Award nomination, and a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Village Roadshow Pictures’ Oscar-nominated movie American Sniper has surpassed $200 million at the North American box office on only its tenth day in wide release.

     

    Following its record-breaking first weekend in wide release, the Clint Eastwood-directed film has continued to fill conventional and IMAX theatres nationwide. American Sniper took in an estimated $64.4 million this past weekend, representing the smallest percentage drop ever for a film that opened at more than $85 million, including both three and four-day weekends, and bringing the domestic gross to $200.1 million and climbing. The movie is now, domestically, the highest-grossing film in Eastwood’s long career, and it is on track to become his top-grossing film worldwide.

     

    Warner Bros.     BENGALURU:  Paramount Pictures (Paramount) and Warner Bros Pictures (WB) critically acclaimed film Interstellar has surpassed US$ 621 million (about Rs 3900 crore) at the worldwide box office to date says Viacom.

     

    Further, the movie has surpassed US$100 million (about Rs 620 crore) in Imax Theatres worldwide since its release on 5 November, marking the fourth time an Imax film has crossed the US$100 million threshold.

     

    Continuing the legacy begun by Nolan and his use of the 15 perf 65mm Imax cameras in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, more than an hour of Interstellar was shot using Imax cameras. Exclusively in Imax theatres, these sequences expand to fill the entire screen and deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity and provide audiences with a truly cinematic and immersive experience.     MUMBAI: An all-star roster of actors has joined Warner Bros. Pictures’ new action adventure ‘Suicide Squad’, bringing DC Comics’ super villain team to the big screen under the direction of David Ayer (‘Fury’).  The announcement was made today by Warner Bros. Pictures creative development and worldwide production president Greg Silverman.

     

    The film will star two-time Oscar nominee Will Smith (‘The Pursuit of Happyness’, ‘Ali’, upcoming ‘Focus’) as Deadshot; Tom Hardy (‘The Dark Knight Rises’, upcoming ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’) as Rick Flagg; Margot Robbie (‘The Wolf of Wall Street’, upcoming ‘Focus’, the ‘Tarzan’ movie) as Harley Quinn; Oscar winner Jared Leto (‘Dallas Buyers Club’, ‘Alexander’) as the Joker; Jai Courtney (‘Divergent’, upcoming ‘The Water Diviner’) as Boomerang; and Cara Delevingne (‘Anna Karenina’, upcoming ‘Pan’) as Enchantress.

     

    In making the announcement, Silverman said, “The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one.  David Ayer returns to the studio where he wrote ‘Training Day’ and brings his incredible ability to craft multidimensional villains to this iconic DC property with a cast of longtime Warner collaborators Will Smith and Tom Hardy, and other new and returning favorites: Margot, Jared, Jai and Cara.  We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

     

     Ayer is also writing the script for ‘Suicide Squad’, which is being produced by Charles Roven (‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy, upcoming ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’) and Richard Suckle (‘American Hustle’).  Zack Snyder, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson and Geoff Johns are serving as executive producers.

     

     The film is slated for release on 5 August 2016.
