    Jack Hudson to play title role in ‘Ben Hur’

    NEW DELHI: Jack Hudson has landed the role of the Biblical character Judah in MGM and Paramount Pictures remake of the 1959 classic Ben Hur that had gone on to become a box office hit.

     

    Timur Bekmambetov, who earlier made Wanted is directing the classic. Scripted by the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave scribe John Ridley and Keith Clarke, the film is expected to be released on 26 February 2016.

     

    The film is based on Lew Wallace’s 1880 novel ‘Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ’, and follows a falsely accused nobleman who survives years of slavery to take vengeance on his best friend who betrayed him. It was also made in 1925 as a silent film.

     

    Huston is best known for his role in HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as Richard Harrow and recently signed on to co-star in the adaptation of Pride Prejudice and Zombies.

     

    Paramount Pictures has already seen success from this genre with the movie Noah, Darren Aronofsky’s take on the story of Noah’s Arc starring Russell Crowe. That film grossed $359 million worldwide, including more than $100 million domestically.

     

    Fox and Chernin have just wrapped production on their latest film Exodus: Gods and Kings about Moses, which is slated to release in December and stars Christian Bale. The studio is also developing a King David film produced by Ridley Scott. 

     

    The 1959 Ben-Hur was directed by William Wyler, produced by Sam Zimbalist for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and starring Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins, Hugh Griffith and Haya Harareet.  It had the largest budget at $15.175 million and the largest sets built for any film produced at the time. This was followed by a $14.7 million marketing effort. It was the fastest-grossing as well as the highest grossing film of 1959, in the process becoming the second-highest grossing film in history at the time after Gone with the Wind. It won a record 11 Academy Awards.

     for his wicked roles in films such as Wanted,SinghamDabangg 2 and Policegiri.

    Prakash, who primarily started his career with southern films, has also produced and directed several films there.

    He is quite pleased with the way his career is shaping up. With lot of action films coming up, he has definitely got a place there. 

    He is planning to remake a version of Zanjeer, where he plays the role of Teja, a gang-leader. The original role was played by Ajit in the 1973 blockbuster

    Prakash, 48, played the role of a strict Army officer in the recently-released Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

    MUMBAI: Three years after the release and subsequent success of Wanted, producer Boney Kapoor will once again team up with director Prabhu Deva and Salman Khan for its sequel Wanted 2.

    It is said that Kapoor has already intimated Khan of the project. Though the actor has agreed to do the film, his only pre-condition is that the second part of the franchise should be original. Accordingly, an original script is being penned.

    It is well-known that Wanted was a remake of Puri Jagannath‘s Telugu hit Pokiri, but Khan doesn‘t want to touch South Indian remakes as of now. So, after Sajid Nadidwala‘s Kick (a remake of a Telugu film) and Sohail Khan‘s Mental (remake of Stalin), the Dabangg star doesn‘t want to work in remakes any more.

    In fact, Sohail Khan was keen to do a South Indian remake with the older Khan. But the latter preferred Sher Khan. Likewise No Entry was a remake of South Indian film. But its sequel No Entry Mein Entry is an original script.

    MUMBAI: In a major swoop that was conducted by Super Cassettes Industries on 19 July in the Lokhandwala area of Andheri, its raiding team led by Leon Joseph and D.K.Naik confiscated over 1880 CDs, DVDs, MP3s of films like Wanted, Ready, Double Dhamaal, Buddhah Hoga Tera Baap, Delhi Belly and Zindagi Na Mileage Dobara among others.


    The raid was conducted by the police staff from Oshiwara Police Station, Mumbai, under the supervision of D.C.P. Zone- IX, K.M.M. Prasanna, Sr. P.I. Shri D.K. Raghuwansi, PSI Shri Raut, and two Police Staff.


    The accused, Sanjay Bapi Das, has been arrested for further remand and has been booked under the section of the Copyright Act, vide FIR no:- C.R. No- 362/11 and the property confiscated is valued at Rs 218,500. The accused were remanded to Police custody for seven days.
