  • CNBC 24-hours via MOD in Taiwan

    MUMBAI: Business and finane channel CNBC is now available as a 24-hour television service in Taiwan, through ChungHwa Telecom’s Multimedia-On-Demand (MOD) platform, which currently has more than 100,000 subscribers.
    CNBC Asia Pacific senior VP sales and marketing Gregg Creevey says, “This initiative provides ChungHwa Telecom with an excellent way of adding more value to their channel packages on their Mod platform. For CNBC, this is an important strategic partnership which represents a positive move towards the Northeast Asian markets, and is a reflection of CNBC’s appeal and relevance to a dynamic and vibrant market like Taiwan.”
    ChungHwa MultiMedia president Wayne Tang says, “Our partnership with CNBC puts ChungHwa Telecom in an even stronger position to offer unique content to domestic viewers allowing us to attract more customers by offering a greater variety of services. The growth of MOD highlights how new consumer technologies, including digital television, are coming on line fast in Taiwan.   • Amrita Sindhu is Fremantle Media VP sales home entertainment for Asia

    MUMBAI: FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide (FLW), the licensing division of format creator FremantleMedia, has announced the appointment of Amrita Sindhu as VP, sales for home entertainment in Asia. Edith Goh is licensing director in the Asia Pacific region for FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide.

    In a newly created position, Sindhu will be charged with managing FremantleMedia’s current home entertainment catalogue in Asia and maximising opportunities for the company’s deep proprietary library. She will be based in Singapore and will report directly to FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide senior VP Home Entertainment & Archive Sales. Sindhu will also be responsible for acquiring ommercially viable home entertainment properties and will develop the company’s other proprietary brands such as Idols, Jamie Oliver and others into home video.

    Kalhan said, “With this appointment we now have an extremely experienced executive on the ground who can assist our existing distributors and further strengthen our business in Asia. I am really pleased to announce Amrita’s appointment and am confident that she will play a vital role in the division’s growth strategy.”

    Goh meanwhile willidentify, develop and oversee FremantleMedia’s relationships with advertisers and sponsors as well as the development of advertiser-funded programming in the region. Additionally, Goh will manage the company’s licensing business in Asia across consumer products, telephony and voting, interactive and wireless. She will be based in Singapore and will report to FremantleMedia Licensing Worldwide VP licensing Asia Pacific Jon Penn.

    Penn commented, “This newly created role will be integral to our Asia-Pacific ancillary rights operation in further strengthening and extending the profile of FremantleMedia and our brands within the region. We are really excited to have Edith on board and we are confident that, with her talent and wealth of experience within the media industry, she will be a fantastic asset to the team.”

  • BVITV – Japan promotes Harry Tanaka to VP sales

    MUMBAI: Disney’s Buena Vista International Television Japan (BVITV-J) has promoted Harry Tanaka to vice president, sales, as announced today, Walt Disney Television International Japan Senior VP and M D Paul Candland to whom he will report.

    In his new role, Tanaka will manage the day-to-day sales operations of BVITV-J to maximize opportunities for the business, in particular the transformation to direct free television distribution in this market, informs an official release.

    Commenting on the appointment Candland said, “Harry has been a key contributor in the growth of Disney’s TV business in Japan. His background, combined with his experience with us over the past four years, has uniquely prepared him for this position. In his new post at BVITV-J, he’ll continue to bring the best of our content to viewers all over Japan.”

    Tanaka joined The Walt Disney Company in November 2002 as a lead legal counsel, supporting both the Disney Channel and BVITV businesses in Japan. A four-year employee of The Walt Disney Company, Tanaka was promoted to Executive Director, Business Development in 2005. Heading up that group, he has been responsible for extending distribution of Disney’s content to both new and existing platforms.

  • SAB TV VP sales (South) Madhusudan to join Maa TV

    BANGALORE: SAB TV’s Bangalore based VP Sales Madhusudan is migrating to the Telugu channel Maa TV as marketing & sales head. He will be joining the network in the second week of April.
     

    Madhusudan will leave SAB TV on 31 March.
     
     

    Speaking to indiantelevision.com, he scotched rumors about Maa TV sale. He said that this was just testing the waters, probably an exercise to find the value of the channel.
