Star Sports to air #SelectDugoutDebate on IPL 2021 finale

Mumbai: Star Sports brings back #SelectDugoutDebate for its fourth edition with new teams and a previous winner and Dugout expert Brett Lee as the adjudicator. The one-hour special will be aired on 14 October, starting at 7 p.m.

The experts of the game will put their minds together to predict the winner of the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL). The show will be aired on Star Sports Select 1, Star Sports 1, Star Sports 2, and Disney+ Hotstar.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) boys Scott Styris, Abhinav Mukund, and S Badrinath form ‘Team Scotty’ who will go up against Dugout panelists Graeme Swann, Brian Lara, and Ajit Agarkar from ‘Team Swanny’ for pride, glory, never-ending banter, and ultimate bragging rights. “I look forward to defending my title. We won last year because we easily proved why Mumbai Indians would beat Delhi Capitals, which they did. Swann is taking over from Brett Lee and hopefully, his team provides a greater challenge,” said Styris.

The debate follows a unique T20 format, with four segments: Powerplay, Middle overs, Death Overs, and a Bonus Round: Super Over – each of these modern greats and legends will speak for ‘their finalist team’ to score points. The Dugout experts will present their case on their respective teams and why they believe their team is going to win the IPL. The teams will dive deep into the wealth of analytical data available to them at Star Sports and look to highlight the strengths and weaknesses of both the finalists of Vivo IPL 2021.

“Once more the #SelectDugoutDebate is here. I yearn for strong opposition but will have to make do with Scott. The dugout debate is bigger than the IPL itself,” said Graeme Swann.

Star Sports launches Vivo IPL 2021 resumption campaign

Mumbai: Star Sports has drawn parallels between Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 and a blockbuster film in its latest advertising campaign called #AsliPictureAbhiBaakiHai featuring cricketer MS Dhoni in a filmy avatar.

Conceptualised by the creative team at Star Sports, the ad film tells viewers that the second half of the tournament, airing from 19 September, is unmissable. The remaining 31 matches will be played over 27 days in the United Arab Emirates.

“There is a great deal of anticipation for the resumption of VIVO IPL 2021,” said Star and Disney India, head – sports, Sanjog Gupta. “Teams and players typically up the ante on the field, play top cricket and are at their competitive best in the final weeks of VIVO IPL, which means fans can look forward to higher intensity, impossible heroics and nail-biting finishes in the month-long spectacle. And this is the proposition of our campaign – #AsliPictureAbhiBaakiHai. That, like a blockbuster, there are many twists and turns, highs and lows, thrills and spills in store. So, whether you watched the first ‘half’ or not, the second half from September 19 is unmissable. Star and Disney India is also committed to continue delivering the most engaging and immersive broadcast of the tournament across TV and digital platforms. Multiple regional feeds, world class presentation, enhanced viewing experiences and technology innovations will delight millions of viewers.”

The TVC campaign will be released in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam and will reach a national audience.

New Delhi: It's that time of the year again, which cricket fans have been waiting for with bated breath. The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is here and the excitement is palpable. Radio channel Big FM has partnered with the IPL team Rajasthan Royals for the second consecutive year as its official radio partner.

The second wave of Covid2019 cases continues to pose a challenge and once again, all the matches will be played in empty stadiums, with no enthusiastic fans to cheer their favourite teams. Big FM has announced that it intends to broadcast the stadium experience and ensure that fans can enjoy the revelry from the comforts of their home.

As a part of the association, Big FM will become Radio Stadium for an hour every day, serving exclusive trivia, conducting exciting contests and quizzes, and hosting an expert panel that will speak on the team and players, and give royal updates on pre or post matches of the Rajasthan Royals team.

The radio network will also give a chance to their listeners to come up with a ‘royal chant’ for team RR. Listeners will be asked to describe each Rajasthan Royal player in a word. Shortlisting 11 words that best describe each player, Big FM will compose a royal chant using them as core lyrics. The chant will be played on the radio network during each match of the team.

Big FM country head product – marketing & THWINK BIG Sunil Kumaran said, “This year, the celebrations are a little different, with fans gearing up to enjoy the matches from their homes. However, we don't want them to miss out on the frenzy, and hence through our campaign, we are presenting a multi-platform immersive and engaging experience that will take the excitement and the entertainment quotient a notch higher.”

The association will allow fans to know more about their favourite RR team players, inside trivia, anecdotes, and fun stories with the Royal Camp, through smart speakers and Android phones. Players will be asked to share stories about teammates, which will be available on the smart assistant in an exclusive format. Big FM will also curate special playlists for some of the top players of the team that match their on-field persona. These playlists will be available on music streaming platforms as the Royal Playlist.

Rajasthan Royals COO Jake Lush McCrum said, “Our fans mean everything to us. With no fans in the stadium, we need to find different ways to bring them as close to the action as possible. Through this partnership with Big FM, we are excited to bring our fans the joy, excitement, anticipation, and entertainment of IPL from the comfort of their homes.”

  • Vivo IPL 2021 returns home, will begin in Chennai from 9 April

Vivo IPL 2021 returns home, will begin in Chennai from 9 April

New Delhi: The stage is finally set for one of the biggest cricketing events to begin. The Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council has announced the schedule for Vivo IPL 2021 to be held in the country from 9 April.

The sporting extravaganza will return home after two years during which the world braved a pandemic and lockdown restrictions were put in place to combat it. The Vivo IPL 2021 will be hosted by Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata, said BCCI honorary secretary Jay Shah on Sunday.

However, all the matches will be played behind closed doors to begin with and a call on allowing spectators will be taken at a later stage of the tournament, added Shah.

The season will kickstart on 9 April in Chennai with a high octane clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. The world’s largest cricket stadium – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the playoffs as well as the final on 30 May. The newly-built stadium that hosted India’s second pink ball fixture at home will witness its first ever IPL.

Each team is set to play at four venues during the league stage. Out of the 56 league matches, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru will host 10 matches each while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host eight games each. All the matches will be played at neutral venues and no team will play at their home venue. All teams will play at four out of six venues during the league stage, said the BCCI.

There will be a total of 11 double headers where six teams will play three afternoon matches and two teams will play two afternoon matches. The afternoon games are slated for a 3:30 pm IST start while the evening games will have a 7:30 pm IST start.

After hosting the tournament safely and successfully in the UAE last year with all safety protocols in place, the BCCI said that it is confident of hosting the IPL at home with health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount. “The fixtures of the tournament have been mapped in a way that every team will travel only three times during the league stage, thus reducing commute and minimising risk,” said Shah.
