    Here’s a look at some of its marquee properties for the year.

    This November, fans will be treated to a musical extravaganza like none other with the launch of Times of Music which features the who’s who of the music world as a part of the show – including Vishal-Shekhar, Bappi Lahiri, Salim-Sulaiman, Pyarelal-ji, Amit Trivedi, Rajesh Roshan, Agnee, Euphoria, Indian Ocean, Shantanu Moitra and Amaal Malik just to name a few. This series heroes a never-seen-before concept where each episode features two legends – veteran composers and new age artistes – performing their renditions of each other’s most celebrated songs.

    An ode to Indian weddings and the shaadi season is an MX Original Series ‘Shaadi Fit’ that traces the journey of 4 young couples who are put through an intensive journey to turn into the best shape of their lives physically, mentally and emotionally for their wedding day.

    Investing in regional content across genres and languages, MX Player adds ‘Ek Thi Begum’ and ‘Samantar’ to its Marathi slate. The former is a thrilling revenge drama where a woman, pushed to the brink emerges as a dominant force to avenge her lost husband while ‘Samantar’ is another ambitious regional project featuring the superstar of Marathi cinema – Swapnil Joshi in the lead. The brand is also dabbling with 2 Bhojpuri shows – ‘Madhuri Talkies’ and ‘Runaway Lugaai’, while the Tamil slate brings you the most awaited series by National Award-Winning Director – Gautham Vasudev Menon – ‘Queen’.

The new collection of shows includes Film Companion with Anupama Chopra and #NoFilter Neha hosted by Neha Dhupia. Additionally, Raghu Dixit, internationally acclaimed Indian Indie musician & music director, joins Saavn’s Artist-in-Residence (AiR) program. These exciting announcements follow the launch of Saavn’s Original Programming in April 2016, which marked the evolution of India’s largest music streaming service into a multimedia entertainment streaming platform.

    Starting August 11th, Saavn Originals will premiereFilm Companion with Anupama Chopra. In addition to movie reviews, Film Companion will feature interviews with A-list film stars, as well an in-depth look at what’s worth watching in India’s ever-growing movie scene. “I’m very excited to be on Saavn,” said Anupama Chopra, “I’ve never done a long form audio show before and this is both an exciting and challenging opportunity. I hope to learn and grow with Saavn.”

    In Film Companion’s special premiere episode, Anupama talks to the who’s who of Bollywood music in a power-packed panel including music director duo Vishal-Shekhar, well-known Indian film composer, musician, singer and lyricist Amit Trivedi, and the famous music composer and a guitarist, Ehsaan Noorani, on the changing landscape and future of Bollywood and the music industry. Following this premiere, Film Companion with Anupama Chopra will stream twice weekly every Thursday and Friday on Saavn.

    #NoFilter promises to shock, awe, and delight Saavn’s 18 million listeners starting mid-September.

    MUMBAI: Percept Pictures has launched its new Musical Short Film on the contentious LGBTQ subject matter. “Just Begun” is an interesting journey of a young female couple as they embark on life together, with the journey transporting the viewer through flashes of reminiscence. The objective of the film is to convey the concept of Love in its purest form, break preconceived barriers, encourage liberation and support humanitarianism, with an ecstatic music track. The film makers claim to deal with an extremely sensitive issue, yet tackles it in the most tranquil and contemporary style with an aim to reach out to the vast global audience.

    Produced and directed by Percept Pictures, this short film continues to add to their repertoire of achievements following in the footsteps of their award winning short film (aids+b)2 which won the Best Film award at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2016.

    Percept Pictures chief operating officer Danny Mamik said, “We were quite disturbed by the shootings in Orlando and wanted to do our bit to showcase our support for the LGBTQ community through a platform that could reach out to the masses. While brainstorming we came up with the idea of “LOVE IS THE OLDEST RELIGION”, and I was quite surprised to realize that there is no phrase coined like that till date. The phrase is so true and so apt for our world right now.”

    He further added, “Once we cracked the core concept, the execution and treatment of the video just flowed. The main thought that we want to communicate is that it doesn’t matter who you are or what your choices are, as long as there is Love, there should be no judgement.”

    Percept Pictures also announced the launch of its YouTube page, “Indian Chronicles”. This channel will serve as a dedicated platform to enable the youth to express themselves. Over the past year Percept Pictures has become a nurturing ground for young aspiring creative talent and ‘Indian Chronicles’ will offer an opportunity and platform for young budding creative talents across our country to showcase their skills and voice their opinions in a creative manner across any topic that is close to their heart.   

    The content of the channel will be three fold, viz:

    –  Topical, Real stories
    –  A platform to showcase Talent – any person, anywhere in India who has talent can showcase their skills on Indian Chronicles

    ‘Bang Bang’ releases ‘Meherbaan’- its new romantic song

    MUMBAI: After the first hit ‘Tu Meri’, Bang Bang is all set to woo the audience by its newly-released romantic track ‘Meherbaan.’

    Shot in Greece, the track shows a sizzling chemistry between the Greek God of Bollywood Hrithik Roshan, and Bollywood diva Katrina Kaif.

    Penned by Anvita Dutt and composed by Vishal-Shekhar, ‘Meherbaan’ has been sung by Ash King, Shilpa Rao and Shekhar Ravijani.

    After the teaser and Tu Meri song went viral, the new romantic number ‘Meherbaan’ has also been trending right on top on Twitter since its release.

    Bang Bang is an action-thriller based on the Hollywoog film Knight and Day starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. Along with Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, the movie also stars Danny Denzongpa and Jaaved Jaffrey in pivotal roles. With Hrithik as Rajveer and Katrina as Harleen, the film promises ‘flyiing bullets.’

    Directed by Sidharth Anand and produced by Fox Star Studios, Bang Bang is scheduled to release this Gandhi Jayanti (2 October ) alongside Vishal Bharadwaj’s Haider, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s ‘Hamlet,’ starring Shahid Kapoor, Tabu, Kay Kay Menon and Shraddha Kapoor.

    After setting the screen on fire with their first appearance together in Zoya Akhtar’s Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif come back with their electrifying chemistry. Let’s see if they works their magic this time too.

    ‘Indiawaale’: Happy New Year’s latest launch

    MUMBAI: After creating waves with its grand trailer, the Happy New Year team launched its theme song Indiawaale on 2 September.  Featuring the entire cast of the movie, the song is typical Farah Khan affair – grand and opulent.

    Penned by lyricist Irshad Kamil, Indiawaale has been composed by musical duo Vishal-Shekhar. The track is sung by Vishal Dadlani, KK, Shankar Mahadevan and Neeti Mohan.

    Excited about Indiawaale’s release, Shah Rukh Khan tweeted, “The first song will see the light of the world today from HNY, “Indiawaale.” Hope it entertains you all. Life is the dancer & you are the dance.”

    Talking to the media about the song release, director Farah Khan said, “Indiawaale is the first-of-its-kind song. A dance anthem for sure! It gives you goose bumps and also forces you to get up and dance. It was truly the most difficult song to crack as not only I but Vishal-Shekhar and Irshad Bhai (Kamil) had to think of today’s patriotism and make a song around that. Today what we feel for our country is so different from the sentiments of the ’70s and ’80s. It’s really a song that encapsulates all that makes us uniquely Indiawaale.”

    “I am so excited for everyone to hear the full song because we feel that ‘Indiawaale’ is a dance anthem that can be heard and danced to in a disco, stadium or a stage. It is a song for everyone!” said Shekhar Ravjiani prior to the release of the song at an event.

    Shah Rukh Khan’s much hyped film; Happy New Year is all set to hit the movie screens this Diwali, on 24 October. The movie will see the team of Farah Khan-Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone reunite after the 2007 blockbuster Om Shaanti Om. The key cast of HNY also includes Abhishek Bachchan, Sonu Sood, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff and Vivaan Shah.

    Happy New Year is produced by Red Chillies Entertainments and distributed by Yash Raj Films worldwide. The movie is slated to hit theatres this Diwali in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages.

    MUMBAI: It’s set to change the indie scene in India. The announcement of the launch of the ambitious indie channel – Pepsi MTV Indies from the Viacom 18 group was made amid much fanfare last month. However, the launch date was kept a secret. Now, MTV India EVP & Business Head Aditya Swamy reveals that the channel may go on air pretty soon.

     

    On the sidelines of the launch of MTV Films on Saturday, Swamy revealed: “The test run for Pepsi MTV Indies started on Monday, 3 March and will continue for the next two weeks.”

     

    Continuing further, he said that in all probability the channel should reach the audiences by the weekend starting 15 March.

     

    The feed for the channel is being beamed off from the satellite Measat 3. Swamy informs that all the operators are on board for the distribution of the channel. However, he didn’t reveal the pricing of the channel.

     

    Talking about the content, Swamy stated that there are plans to use Pepsi MTV Indies as platform to discover independent artists, find their unique sounds, their independent music and their expose it to the mainstream audience of MTV. “For example, you will find Vishal Dadlani’s Pentagram on Pepsi MTV Indies, but the music of Vishal-Shekhar will be on MTV. Similarly, you will find The Raghu Dixit Project on Pepsi MTV Indies, but you’ll hear the compositions of Raghu Dixit for Bewakoofiyaan on MTV,” he said.

    South Indian films dubbed in Hindi more popular than English

    MUMBAI: Sony MAX and Sony MIX executive vice president and business head Neeraj Vyas was the Guest Editor of the day at Indiantelevision.com today.

    During his interaction with journalists at Indiantelevision.com, Vyas talked about what he thinks about broadcast journalism. His complaint was that journalists do less of research-based writing and are more interested in the financial details of the broadcasting business.

    While dwelling on the businesses he heads, Vyas talks about how Sony MIX has tried to make the music channel musical from being a trade channel, on the preparations for Indian Premier League (IPL) season 7 and the preferences of Indian audiences for the film genre.

    Following are the comments made by Vyas on films, music and IPL:

    There is a channel dedicated to English movies dubbed in Hindi — UTV Action. If you look at the other channels — Sony MAX, Zee Cinema, Star Gold, & Pictures and Movies OK, almost 25-30 per cent of everybody’s FPC in a week comprises south Indian films dubbed in Hindi. South Indian dubs are a very integral reality of composition of every Hindi movie channel. There was reluctance from advertisers initially. Indians completely enjoy south Indian cinema.  They might not know who is Nagarjuna or who Ravi Teja is but they love the action. They love the way the action is choreographed. They love the fact that there are no songs. They like the feel of the characters because they are larger than life.

    They like the plots in south Indian films because they feel some of the plots are better than Hindi movie plots. Its vendetta, its revenge, it’s about the common man rising. These are the plots that work across.

    The language of Indian cinema does not change just because the film is made in the south or made in Mumbai or Hyderabad. Most of the films dubbed are Telugu films which are over the top. Tamil films are by and large understated. Telugu films have blood and gore and all that. Indian viewer does not mind.

    The characters are bound differently because of language reasons, geographical reasons. Otherwise Indian films are Indian films. Viewership tilts towards the male.

    Hindi movie channels are skewed towards male. Unless you have Chennai Express which is very universal. If I have to give you some south Indian parallel is Telugu film Magadheera. We promoted it as a proper Hindi film blockbuster. It gave me a rating of 2 in the first screening. That cuts through all TGs and massive special effects.

    International dubbed movies are not staple diet, but can be served as a surprise and can be a good break from the regular.

    MUSIC:

    We went and bought more music and put more variety than anybody else.  The other call we took was that whatever we do we should be musical. We will not have movies like some channels do. We will not have animated characters. Whatever we do will be music. We have got something like Solos. Singer comes and sings two lines.  These are things that we did and after digitisation we got shelf space. We saw 13 weeks in a row we were the number one channel. But for that we did a lot of sacrifice. We reduced advertising time. Against 30 minutes I was doing 15-20 minutes.

    We started with 12 million viewers and today we have 55 million viewers.

    Indian Premier League

    The second edition was done in South Africa, but at that time the scale at which IPL was hosted wasn’t as big as it is today. Everything today has changed. So the campaign has to be bigger.

    This season, if done outside India, will be very critical in terms of revenue as well. IPL for us is like a huge ‘Mela’. The ‘Mela’ gets prominence and written about because it happens in our city. If it happens outside India, it also impacts advertising, since the advertiser loses the buzz. It also has an impact on the rating. If IPL happens in South Africa, they will ensure that the match is aired in India at 8 pm. This time there will be only 60 games, because there is one team less.

    IPL Campaigns

    We need to up the entertainment quotient. There has to be a call of action. These two states always have to go hand in hand. It needs to be engaging, entertaining and fun-filled. It needs to be riveting; it needs to cut through different kinds of loops. Can’t be very male dominated, can’t be very male–centric, can’t be very female centric, can’t be very children centric. So, it’s a tough brief, not a very easy brief; because these guys are used to very focused briefs. I say, “this is my TG, these are the values of my brand, this is what it needs to be and these are the values that need to come through my communication. So, the consumer knows that I’m buying this for this.

    On Farah Khan

    Farah brought her own style and because of the fact that she’s a director and actor, made it easier for her to get into the zone of her character. She knew the tone and tenor of what we needed. She has changed the entire paradigm of the campaign. Then we roped in Vishal – Shekhar, who she is very close with. So it became a huge family gathering. We also got Rajeev Sethi, the director of Keroscene Films is also a childhood friend of ours.

    The 2014 campaign has no real people, they’re all models. Especially because our campaign is emotion based. One wrong reaction about what the character is feeling and the whole 30 second ad can go for a toss. That is why we spend a lot of time in casting. I personally am a stickler for casting!

    This year, we are doing five 30-40 seconders and one 60 seconder and again there will be an anthem that’s been composed again by Vishal Shekhar. We’ll also have an Extra Innings music video shot on that with the actors and the commentators. So, it all comes together as a package.

    So, this year we have the same girls and boys back for IPL.

    Sony Music carries out marketing innovation for ‘Gori Tere Pyaar Mein’

    MUMBAI: Known for its marketing innovations with every release, Sony Music introduced a first of its kind concept for Dharma Productions’ Gori Tere Pyaar Mein. A special video teaser featuring Kareena Kapoor who will be introducing the brand new song Tooh will be launched on Gaana.com on 8 October where in every time a user logs on to the website, they will get to listen and view the teaser.

    Commenting on the same, Sony Music India marketing director Sanujeet Bhujabal said, “The film and its music has huge anticipation in the minds of the fans and they are waiting for the songs and the look of the film with bated breath. Keeping the same in mind, we decided to create a special unit where in we release a song and video teaser on Gaana.com prior to the release of the song. We are confident this build will be appreciated by the fans across the globe.”

    In the past Sony Music had created multimedia roadblocks for Student of the Year, Jannat 2, Shootout at Wadala, Raanjhaana, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, across all the digital and music platforms.
    Composed by the multi-talented music director duo, Vishal-Shekhar – who has also worked on Punit Malhotra’s I Hate Luv Story – have created a truly memorable music that merges with the theme of the film.
