Sooperfly launches kayaking web series ‘Paddle Hard’

MUMBAI: After launching the mountaineering series – Mission Everest 2015 last week, Sooperfly is now gearing up to retell the story of a lone sea expedition with Paddle Hard – an eight episode YouTube web-series starting 10 September, 2015.

The 120 Media Collective’s content creation and distribution arm has partnered the sea-farer and IIT graduate Kaustabh Khade to tell his story of weathering storms and wild creatures at sea.

Sooperfly business head and senior vice president Vishal Nongbet said, “Paddle Hard is in line with our interest supporting fresh and compelling content through bespoke distribution. Kaustubh’s trip to the party capital has all the elements intact; only, we view it from the other side of the beach!”

Accomplishing the challenge in the shortest possible time, the 17 year old seafarer has entered the Limca Book of Records and has dedicated the funds to support underprivileged children and youth.

Khade said, “Magic Bus uses sports to change lives, which is what motivated me to work with them. Engaging with anyone, child or adult, through sports helps cross many boundaries over the long term that can prove otherwise difficult to surmount.”

Khade was inspired by Magic Bus, which aims to take children out of poverty through a programme of mentoring and coaching. He associated with the NGO to help these children by raising funds for Magic Bus India.

Magic Bus founder and executive chairman Matthew Spacie added, “We are extremely delighted to have Kaustubh take this challenge in support of the lakhs of children whose lives we are part of. Together, we hope to create a new generation of economically independent and socially aware citizens who are fully equipped to participate in shaping their country’s future.”

Sooperfly launches ‘Mission Everest’ web series

MUMBAI: Sooperfly has launched a new web series on YouTube that captures the adventure and tribulations of the two young mountaineers, Samir Patham and Sauraj Jhingan through Mission Everest 2015.

Sooperfly, which is a joint venture between India’s The 120 Media Collective and UK based Diagonal View, has created the web series from concept to finish and will manage Mission Everest, which documents real-life experiences.

Sooperfly business head and senior vice president Vishal Nongbet said, “At Sooperfly, we support fresh narratives and share compelling content through custom distribution. Mission Everest follows Samir and Sauraj – two youngsters who chose to help rather than flee in the wake of a crisis. It is a narrative that appeals to fellow youth on a medium that is most accessed by them.”

About a month into their 29,030-feet climb, on 25 April, a massive avalanche triggered by a 7.8 earthquake tore through Everest Base Camp, Nepal, leaving in its wake, 19 dead and over 60 casualties.

“We emerged from the avalanche to witness a trail of destruction. The quake had claimed our camp as well. We were confronted with the choice of retreating from the valley to safety or staying back and helping,” Sauraj adds.

“We decided to do the unconventional, leaving our day jobs and following our dream to climb Mount Everest. After two years of preparation and giving it our all, the biggest tragedy in the history of mountaineering hit us. Sooperfly helped us tell our story as it happened,” recounts Samir, one of the two qualified mountaineers, with wide trekking and climbing experience, featured on Mission Everest.

The 120 Media Collective overhauls senior management team

MUMBAI: The 120 Media Collective, a digitally-inclined company that creates and distributes content for audiences and brands across multiple platforms, has made two senior appointments.

While Shilpa Ambre has joined as chief financial officer for The 120 Media Collective, Vishal Nongbet has been roped in as Sooperfly senior vice president and business head.

Both Ambre and Nongbet will be based in Mumbai and will report to The 120 Media Collective founder and CEO Roopak Saluja.

Ambre will be responsible for all finance, legal affairs and investor relations of The 120 Media Collective and its sub brands – Jack in the Box Worldwide, Sniper, Bang Bang Films and Sooperfly.

Nongbet, on the other hand, has been entrusted with building the Sooperfly team and business and running day-to-day operations including content, distribution and monetization across APAC.

Additionally, Bang Bang Films senior producer Chahna Rupani has been promoted to Sniper executive producer and will primarily be responsible for driving revenues and growth, while ensuring excellence and efficiencies for both commercials and content production.

“The company has undergone a metamorphosis of sorts over the past three years, from being a combined entity of a production company and a social media agency to one that is pushing the boundaries and blurring the lines between communications, entertainment and technology. As we embark on an ambitious growth plan over the next 36 months, bolstering our leadership team with top talent is essential. Keeping the company adequately funded and observing the highest standards of compliance and governance will be key and having someone of Shilpa’s experience and capability overseeing things is of paramount importance,” said Saluja.

Commenting on Nongbet’s appointment, Saluja said, “Our goal with Sooperfly is clearly to capitalize on all that we’ve built up over the past eight plus years- chief among which are our ability to create compelling content and our credibility with brands- to give ourselves a competitive advantage in the digital video space. Only someone of Vishal’s breadth and depth of media experience, which arms him with a profound understanding of mobile and content monetization, can make a success of this.”

Ambre opined, “I am very excited to join the strong and accomplished team at The 120 Media Collective and I’m looking forward to leveraging my experience to support the rapidly growing business operations of the Company and its stakeholders.”

“While the last two decades have been all about the democratisation of content, there has never been a better time than now for advertisers to engage their audiences via owned rather than paid or earned media. Sooperfly will be looking at harnessing the immense talent in the space, building content brands direct to audiences, and finding that sweet spot between content creators and advertisers,” added Nongbet.
