    VerSe Innovation raises $805 million in latest funding rounds

    Mumbai: Local language technology platform VerSe Innovation has raised $805 million in the latest funding rounds from marquee global investors Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (Ontario Teachers’), Luxor Capital, Sumeru Ventures and others. VerSe Innovation owns the family of ‘Bharat-focused’ apps namely Josh, Dailyhunt, and PublicVibe.

    Existing investors Sofina Group, Baillie Gifford and others will also participate north of their pro-rata in this round resulting in VerSe Innovation’s valuation reaching ~$ five billion.

    The fresh round of investment follows close on the heels of a $650 million+ fundraise from Siguler Guff, Carlyle Group, Baillie Gifford, Falcon Edge Capital via Alpha Wave Ventures, Glade Brook Capital, Google, and Microsoft and Qatar Investment Authority taking the total capital raised in the past year to ~$1.5 billion.

    The investment will be focused on strengthening the company’s leadership position as the largest, fastest-growing local language AI-driven content platform in the country.  

    VerSe plans on deepening as well as broadening its AI/ML and data science capabilities to further cement its leadership position across all user, engagement and retention metrics, drive deeper monetisation including influencers, e-commerce and live streaming and forays into Web 3.0 experiences across its local language creator base of over 50 million creators as well as its local language content ecosystem which experiences over 80 billion video plays per month.

    Avendus Capital was the exclusive financial advisor to VerSe Innovation on the transaction.

    MUMBAI: News and local language content application, Dailyhunt, has launched Live TV; a free streaming service with 130+ channels to extend its content offering to the latest in news, entertainment, spiritual, movies and music live TV content.

    Live TV will be available in nine languages ranging from Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Punjabi & English. Dailyhunt’s partnership with YuppTV will enrich the video content available through existing partners such as Republic TV, BBC News & ABP News.

    Huawei Technologies opens new facility in India

    MUMBAI: Huawei Technologies India, the Indian arm of the global next generation telecommunications network solutions provider Huawei Technologies, has opened a new facility in Bangalore, to develop optical network products and wireless LAN solutions.

    In particular, the new center will work on Huawei’s new generation Optix series of intelligent optical network products based on cutting edge optical technologies. Huawei’s optical solutions are widely deployed by major service providers for providing IPTV services, Triple Play (high speed Internet, television and voice) services, mobile services and leased line services to their customers, states an official release.

    “Huawei Technologies India has been involved in key technology development, and this expansion will broaden our portfolio with the addition of new domains such as optical solutions and wireless LAN,” says Huawei Technologies India Embedded Solution VP & head Virendra Gupta.

    The new facility to accommodate 180 software engineers will also house team working on Wireless LAN domain related software development catering to the Wireless Switch and Wireless Access Points products, the release adds.

    “Huawei India provides its staff opportunity to work on development of cutting edge technologies, and the new facility will be engaged in the development of cutting edge products/components in wireless LAN domain and Optical domain,” says the company’s COO George Huang.
