Kurt Russell eyes part in Fast 7′

With martial arts superstar Tony Jaa and a brand-new villain joining the new film (as well as Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson reprising their roles), the Fast and Furious franchise is developing into an ensemble cast of action icons in the same vein as the Expendables series. The addition of Russell makes sense then, as his filmography is rife with the same kind of testosterone-driven thrill rides. Ironically, Russell reportedly turned down a role in the original Expendables film.

Regardless, this is certainly a major win for the long-running Fast and Furious series and supports the style new director James Wan (Insidious, The Conjuring) will bring to the films. The filmmaker is taking over for Justin Lin – who directed the last four Fast and Furious adventures – and previously announced that he views the film as a “gritty 70s revenge thriller.” Fast Five previously reinvigorated the franchise by dropping the focus on street racing and including globe-trotting and heist elements. Therefore, Wan’s decision to bring in new blood while tweaking the tone a bit could go a long way to keeping the series fresh.

Vin Diesel in talks to join ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

MUMBAI: Vin Diesel just might be Groot. The Fast and The Furious franchise actor is in negotiations to join Marvel’s newest ensemble tent pole. If it all works out, Vin Diesel would play the tree-like alien in the James Gunn-directed Guardians Of The Galaxy.

Diesel posted a captionless pic of Groot up on his Facebook page. For a while the drawing from the GOTG comic stood as his cover page before being taken down and then disappeared all together from his public timeline.

The Groot character can absorb wood to gain strength and recover from injuries as well as control trees. While hyper-intelligent, the alien seems to only ever say the line “I am Groot” over and over to those who cannot hear his real voice.

Fast and Furious 6 sets the box-office ablaze

MUMBAI: The sixth installment of Universal‘s Fast and Furious franchise races to a whopping $ 35 million (approximately) for Friday, while some Analysts even go about projecting these figures to a massive $ 45 million.

The Vin Diesel high octane starrer Fast 6 premiered on Thursday with a promising opening of $ 6.5 million as against its last installment‘s $ 3.8 million. Given the seasonal period the action flick is estimated to mint around a stout $ 100 million over the four day weekend as against last installment‘s $ 70 million in its three day debut recording to be the franchise‘s best opening.

Warner Bros‘ third installment in the Hangover series records a dismal $ 11.8 million, a sheer disappointment when compared to its previous installment which recorded over $ 31 million during the same period. The Hangover III should finish up in the $60 million range during the four-day weekend down 30 per cent from The Hangover Part II indicating audiences may be tired of the R-rated comedy franchise.

The competitive fire is fueled with Fast 6 selling over 50 per cent tickets than The Hangover III on Fandango.com

Scaling successfully amongst these is the $ 93 million grossing family film ‘Epic‘ by Fox Blue Sky Animation that projected an impressive $ 40 million during its four day weekend. The business of these three propelled a memorial weekend box office weekend surpassing the $273 million benchmark set in 2011.
