    Saregama acquires music rights of Tamil movies

    MUMBAI: Right after its comeback into the Hindi film music acquisition business after a six-year gap, Saregama India has acquired the music rights of the two upcoming Tamil movies. A romantic comedy KIK-Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru and a period drama film Maaveeran Kittu.

    KIK stars GV Prakash, RJ Balaji, Anandhi and Niki Galrani. The other movie, written and directed by Suseenthiran, Maaveeran Kittu stars Vishnu Vishal and Sri Divya in lead roles. Music for the film has been scored by Imman with Yugabharathi’s lyrics for the songs.

    Saregama India MD Vikram Mehra said,“South India is a very important market for us, and we see a lot of exciting music coming from here. We are thrilled to work on these two projects and are looking forward to make more announcements in the coming year.”

    MUMBAI: Saregama India has inked a two-movie deal with Pen Movies. With this agreement, Saregama has acquired the music rights of upcoming Bollywood releases of Pen which includes Kahaani 2 — Durga Rani Singh, featuring Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal.Kahaani 2 is slated for a release on 2 December.

    This strategic partnership sees Saregama’s return to film music acquisition after a six-year gap.

    “Saregama was always going to get back to film music. It’s our legacy, part of our DNA. We were waiting for the right time and the right partnership which we found with Jayantibhai Gada and Pen Movies,” said Saregama India managing director Vikram Mehra.

    Gada added, “We at Pen are extremely proud to be associated with Saregama, the pioneering music label in India. I feel the platform that Saregama will give to Kahaani 2 — Durga Rani Singh will help the film immensely. I also thank Saregama for giving some great Bengali music for the film, which I’m sure the audience will love to hear.”

    Saregama launches new digital tool for B2B partners

    MUMBAI: Music label Saregama India has launched a digital initiative for its B2B partners across sectors like advertising, film production and television companies. 

     

    The new B2B tool called ‘Song Selector’ will allow users to search appropriate songs as per their needs from Saregama’s repertoire of 117,000+ strong catalogue for embedding.

     

    The tool will be available to the creative team of agencies as well as their affiliated production houses.

     

    Saregama India managing director Vikram Mehra said, “Our new initiative – Song Selector – is a single license window, which will ensure all our partners an easy process of selecting songs from our vast repertoire.”

     

    Saregama’s music library comprises various genres starting from Indian classical, ghazal, bhajan, Qawwali to folk music.

     

    With the help of the B2B tool, users can now easily discover the right content, by the name of the song, theme as well as mood.

    Saregama ropes in Troy Lobo as VP – sales & marketing

    MUMBAI: Saregama India has roped in Troy Lobo as vice present – sales and marketing. With over two decades of experience in sales and affiliated marketing, he was previously Turner South Asia executive director, where he was responsible for network and content distribution.

     

    Lobo is the latest hire at Saregama, after Rajesh Beri and Siddharth Anand were hired as senior creatives earlier this month when the company ramped up its television content management team.

     

    Saregama managing director Vikram Mehra said, “We are very pleased to have Troy head our marketing and sales function across all verticals at Saregama. His vast experience in telecom and television sector will further strengthen to build Saregama an end-to-end music and entertainment company of tomorrow.”

    MUMBAI: As part of its growth strategy, the music company and also the entertainment arm of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, Saregama has ramped up its television content management team. It has appointed two senior creative people, namely Rajesh Beri and Siddharth Anand.

     

    Saregama MD Vikram Mehra commented, “Saregama is very serious about creating good quality content for television and with Beri and Anand, two industry veterans, on board we hope to achieve greater highs in the coming time.”

     

    Beri features in the Limca Books of Records for writing the maximum number of episodes of any serial and the only writer in the country to write 1,328 episodes, story, screen play, dialogues and lyrics for one serial solely. He has more than 45 serials to his credit, telecast across all the major national channels like Star Plus, Sony, DD, Zee TV to name a few.

     

    Anand comes on board with a degree in film making from Hampshire College in Massachusetts. With directorial projects like Zinda on Sony, Hello Pratibha on Zee TV, Shastri Sisters on Colors, he has established himself as one of the finest directors in the television world.

    Tata Sky strengthens its top brass

    MUMBAI: Direct to Home (DTH) operator Tata Sky has strengthened its top level management team. The company has brought on board Pallavi Puri as chief commercial officer (CCO) for commercial function and Malay Dikshit for communication function. After the exit of Tata Sky CCO Vikram Mehra, the post was vacant, since August 2014.

     

    Confirming about the development to Indiantelevision.com Tata Sky CEO Harit Nagpal says, “We have appointed people in his place. We have Pallavi Puri who has come on board for commercial functions and Malay Dikshit who has joined us for communication function.”

     

    Mehra had quit the company in August last year. He then moved on to Saregama as its managing director. Puri is an alumnus of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. She began her career with Blow Plast in the area of product marketing. She then joined Hutchinson Max Telecom. Her previous stint was with Vodafone India where she was the VP-VAS. Puri and Dikshit took charge last month.

     

    The appointments come at a time when Tata Sky recently launched its 4K set top box ahead of this year’s ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. This is to ensure that cricket and sports enthusiasts are well in time to own Tata Sky 4K STBs to witness the cricketing extravaganza for the first time in 4K picture quality. The launch plans were unveiled in July last year when Tata Sky showcased the first ever live FIFA World Cup quarter final match in 4K.
