    Fox Star India appoints Shikha Kapur as chief marketing officer

    MUMBAI: Fox Star India has announced the appointment of Shikha Kapur as chief marketing officer, who will additionally head syndication as well.

     

    In her new role, Kapur will be marketing the entire studio portfolio across Hollywood, Bollywood and Tamil. She will be reporting to Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh and will join on 15 May. 

     

    With more than a decade of experience in having marketed over 100 films and winning multiple awards, Kapur has conceptualised the marketing campaigns for Chennai Express, Rowdy Rathore, Barfi!, Raajneeti,  Rang De Basanti and many more.

     

    She has also been responsible for the campaigns of movies like Dev.D, No one Killed Jessica, Kai Po Che, ABCD, Delhi Belly, Peepli Live, Fashion and Kaminey.  One of the main architects behind the creation of the UTV Motion Pictures brand, Kapur has created a niche for herself in the Hindi film industry. 

     

    Prior to joining Fox Star India, Kapur was heading marketing for studios, broadcasting and the interactive business at Disney India and served as the vice president of the company.

    FoxStar India opens cuckoo to solid start

    MUMBAI: FoxStar Studios’ Cuckoo has opened strong in its opening weekend making it the highest grossing opening for a Tamil film without a big star cast in the last five years. Co-produced with The Next Big Film, Cuckoo is the fourth hit for Fox Star in the Tamil market. 

     

    Previous hits include Raja Rani, Vathikuchi and Engaeyum Eppothum (US grosses waiting for Dmitry). Cuckoo is a heartwarming love story between a blind couple.  

     

    Director Raju Murugan said: “I am grateful to the fraternity and the audiences for such a warm reception to the film. I could have never imagined this love and affection and such a huge success at the box office, for a film that was being directed by a debutant and did not boast of any big star power. I am thankful to Fox Star Studios and Next Big Films for showing faith in me and in my two powerhouse performers – Dinesh and Malavika, for coming up one of with the most memorable performances of 2014!” 

     

    Cuckoo is also Fox Star Studios first film post its successful three film deal with A R Murugadoss. And Murugadoss will be directing a Hindi film – Holiday – for the studio next. 

     

    Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh added: “With Cuckoo, we, along with our co producers, The Next Big Film, have been able to demonstrate that content really is the king at the box office. With Raja Rani and now Cuckoo, we have given the industry two new talented directors, Atlee and Raju. With four back to back hits under our belt, three of which were in joint production with one of the giants of Tamil cinema, A R Murugadoss, we are now looking forward to some exciting times ahead, as our next Mundasuppati, in partnership with Thirukumaran Entertainment, gets ready for a release soon.” 

     

    Next up for Fox Star is its Hindi release Hawaa Hawaai directed by Amole Gupte (post Stanley Ka Dabba’s criticial and commercial success) slated for a release on 9 May.   

     

    Having considerably scaled up in the Hindi film market, Fox Star recently announced a four film deal with Vishesh films (on the back of Raaz 3, Jannat 2 and Murder 3‘s success) and has forged alliances with Pooja Entertainment and Films, Phantom Films, Illuminati Films and Endemol India.   

     

    Fox International Productions president Sanford Panitch said: “Fox Star India continues to use its strength in choosing projects, distribution and marketing of both Hollywood and Indian films, and in sustaining lasting partnerships to great results.”

    Film & Television Producers Guild of India re-elects Mukesh Bhatt as president

    MUMBAI: The Film & Television Producers Guild of India (‘Guild’) has re-elected Mukesh Bhatt as its president. The appointment was announced in the first meeting of the newly constituted Guild Council of Management.

    The other office bearers of the ‘Guild’ management team were also re-elected – namely Dheeraj Kumar, Ashutosh Gowariker, Vipul Shah and Siddharth Roy Kapur as vice presidents and Manish Goswami and Ashim Samanta as treasurers.

    Ratan Jain, Vijay Singh and N P Singh were elected as new members in the Guild Council of Management for the year 2013-14 whilst Rajkumar Kohli was nominated by the Council as a co-opted member. Veteran council member and ex-president of Guild Amit Khanna was honoured by the council on being accorded the privilege of a permanent member of council of management.

    Kulmeet Makkar will continue to manage the affairs of the Film & Television Producers Guild of India as its CEO.

    In the opening speech at the Guild AGM, Bhatt, in the course of apprising the members about various initiatives of Guild during the past 12 months said, “We have made a conscious attempt to radically change the overall image and make-up of the Guild with the ultimate endeavor to build ‘Guild’ – not only in the eyes of the government and fellow trade associations/stakeholders but more significantly to earn goodwill amongst the Guild’s most prized assets – our esteemed Guild members. I am pleased that we have brought in an assured outlook in our delivery mechanism approach to all concerned individuals/entities and the effects are very much visible.”

    MUMBAI: Amol Gupte‘s 2011 directorial venture, Stanley Ka Dabba is all set to make its debut in newer international markets. This comes as a great achievement for Fox Studios and Amol Gupte who are geared up for the movie‘s release in Japan on 29 June this year. Stanley ka Dabba which sees Amol‘s son, Partho Gupte playing the lead has already traveled across fifteen international markets, from America, Europe to Far East.

    Fox Star Studios’ Epic gets 5th biggest animation film opening in India

    NEW DELHI: ‘EPIC‘ has garnered the fifth biggest animation opening for India for Fox Star, who earlier saw a tremendous run of their prehistoric fun family film ‘The Croods‘.

    Released in India a week ahead of its international release, Epic has opened to Rs 3.6 crore gross box office in India (Rs 2.52 crore net) despite a crowded box office with simultaneous releases of high profile Hollywood releases such Amitabh Bachchan‘s ‘The Great Gatsby‘ and Mira Nair‘s ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist‘ whose figures are far behind those of Epic.

    This is the 5th biggest animation opening in India after Ice Age 4, Kung Fu Panda 2, Madagascar 3 and The Croods. Boosted by critical and popular acclaim, the stunning 3D comedy-fantasy adventure has triggered a phenomenal word of mouth for its family content and visual banquet.

    Mahesh Babu seeks right of Jolly LLB in Tamil and Telugu

    MUMBAI: Just two weeks since its release, the Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi-starrer Jolly LLB has found a prospective buyer in Telugu star Mahesh Babu.

    The actor-producer is said to have met the producers, Fox Star Studios, for the rights to remake the film in Telugu and Tamil thus making the Subhash Kapoor-helmed film one of the few Hindi films in recent times which could be remade by a south-based producer.

    Speaking to indiantelevision.com Fox Star Studios‘s CEO Vijay Singh said, "We are in talks for the remake rights of Jolly LLB in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. This is perhaps the first Hindi film the remake rights of which is being sought in all three languages within two weeks of release. At this stage, we can say we are extremely pleased with the way things are shaping up."

    MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios, India is gearing up to release Murder 3, their joint venture with Vishesh Films on 15 February, next year.

    Avers Fox Star Studios India CEO Vijay Singh, "We are very excited to announce that Murder 3 is up for 15 February release. Murder 1 and 2 had made a splash at the box office and with the third offering we aim to raise the bar. We are very happy to associate with Vishesh Films yet again and hope to recreate the Raaz 3 magic."

    Taking a step forward in their successful partnership forward, Fox Star Studios and Vishesh Films had joined hands once again to produce the third installment of the Murder franchise. The film also happens to mark the directorial debut of producer Mukesh Bhatt‘s son Vishesh Bhatt.

    Talking about the film‘s release, producer Mukesh Bhatt says," Murder 3 will release a day after Valentine‘s Day next year and we are very eager to see how the audiences lap up the latest film in the Murder franchise…the film is especially close to me since my son Vishesh makes his directorial debut with it."

    While their last joint venture Raaz 3 set a benchmark in the horror genre, the producers with Murder 3 this time around promise to thrill audiences with the Randeep Hooda, Aditi Rao Hydari starrer that tells the tale of the unraveling of a mysterious disappearance, all told in true Bhatt style.

    MUMBAI: During his recent visit to India, Chairman and CEO- 20th Century Fox James N Gianopulos visited Mahesh Bhatt to observe his production house‘s operations.

    So taken aback was James that both resolved to work on more films together after the recent Raaz 3. Comments Mahesh Bhatt, "It (20th Century Fox) is the biggest body in international cinema. We had a three-film deal with the production house. We are sure to work on one more project with him in the future."

    Speaking about this deal, Mahesh Bhatt said that his company had a three-film deal with them.

    Bhatt has also gone ahead and announced that once the third installment of Murder is released next year, he would work with Fox for two big projects which are to be announced next year. "These are not international projects. It will be made in Hindi but serve the global audience," he adds.

    Adds Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh, "The association with the Bhatts goes a long way. We have done some stellar work together. James and our president Sanford Panitch want to cement our long standing equation."

    Mumbai: With the grand success of their joint venture with Vishesh Films in Raaz 3, Fox Star Studios has set a record of sorts having given five back-to-back successes in Raaz 3, Bol Bachchan, Jannat 2,Titanic 3D and Ice Age 4 in the period of the last five months, a feat that no other film studio has achieved this year.

    With Bol Bachchan, Fox Star announced its grand entry into the 100 cr club while Raaz 3 went on to become the biggest horror film to date.

    In the Hollywood space, Ice age 4 achieved the No. 1 opening for any animation film in India while Titanic in 3D was the 2nd biggest grosser for a re-released film in India.

    Fox Star Studios‘ CEO Vijay Singh said, “We are scaling up to (making) eight to nine Bollywood films per year.     MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios and Vishesh Films have teamed up for their next thriller Murder 3 that marks the directorial debut of producer Mukesh Bhatt‘s son Vishesh Bhatt.

    They have also announced that the film would release a day after Valentine‘s Day next year.
    Murder 3 starring Randeep Hooda and Aditi Rao Hydari tells the tale of the unraveling of a mysterious disappearance. Shooting of the film is already underway in South Africa.
