  • Star’s Bengali movie channel opens with 154 GRPs

    MUMBAI: Star India‘s Bengali movie channel Jalsha Movies which launched on 16 December made a debut with 154 GRPs in West Bengal, which the broadcaster claims is the biggest ever opening for any channel in the Bengali market since 2008.

    According to Star India president – ad sales and Star Jalsha president and GM Kevin Vaz, the channel‘s superior content coupled with aggressive marketing and distribution contributed to the ratings.

    “The channel is already setting new benchmarks and is redefining the pleasure of watching movies for our audiences within a week of its launch. This is a stepping stone for us and we hope to further live up to the expectations by offering a never before entertainment experience to our viewers,” he said.

    The channel was launched with the television premiere of Bengali superstar Jeet-starrer Awara that clocked 5.3 TVR.

    Jalsha Movies, which has a five-year deal with Bengali production house Shree Venkatesh Films, already has a library of 350 movies under its belt. The deal with Shree Venkatesh will give Jalsha Movies the exclusive right to air all the movies of the banner to be released in next five years.

    Going forward Vaz said that Jalsha Movies will continue to have big movie festivals like Dev festival, Mithun festival and so on.

    “We will also have one or two big movie premieres every month. We are soon premiering Challenge II which is the biggest blockbuster during Diwali in West Bengal market,” Vaz added.

    The free-to-air channel is available on all cable platforms including Manthan, DigiCable and Siti Cable apart from DTH platforms like Tata Sky, Videocon d2h and Airtel digital TV.

    ZeeQ now available on Dish TV and Videocon d2h

    MUMBAI: ZeeQ, the newly launched edutainment channel from Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd, has said it is now available on Dish TV and Videocon d2h direct-to-home platforms.

    Dish TV customers can watch ZeeQ on channel no. 510, while Videocon d2h has put it on channel no. 525 as a paid-for channel.
    The ZeeQ programming slate features programmes like ‘Teenovation’, a show in association with National Innovation Foundation about Children innovators who display brilliance and create utility items for problems they see around them, ‘Wordmatch’, a national Hindi game show, and ‘BrainCafé’, a hang out to learn about science theories, concepts and its applications.

    ZeeQ business head Subhdarshi Tripathy said, “ZeeQ has researched programming content which is produced on the basis of experience of Indian kids. We are committed to provide the unique viewing experience of learning through ZeeQ’s edutainment platform to Indian kids through wider network of Dish TV and Videocon d2h.”

    ZeeQ is the 32nd channel from Zeel, which manages ZeeQ’s broadcast operations, while Zee Learn will look after the content and channel management. Zeel will invest Rs 1 billion in ZeeQ over a period of three years and is eyening a break-even in five years.

    The bi-lingual channel will have 70 per cent content in Hindi and 30 per cent in English. ZeeQ will be a pay channel and have a mix of home produced and acquired content.

    KXIP ropes in Videocon d2h as title sponsor

    NEW DELHI: Kings XI Punjab has announced that Videocon d2h has come on board as the title sponsor of the team for the upcoming season of the IPL.

    The franchise earlier had a partnership with leading airlines company Emirates, which switched allegiance to Deccan Chargers this year as team sponsor.

    As part of the deal, Videocon d2h logo will adorn the front of the team’s jersey. The company believes association with KXIP will provide an opportunity to further strengthen itself in North India.

    KXIP COO Col Arvinder Singh said, “We are hopeful of this association as both the brands, KXIP and Videocon d2h have similar synergies as we both are young, promising and believe in keeping our fans entertained.”

    Videocon d2h CEO Anil Khera said, “North India is a very critical region for Videocon d2h and more so, the Punjab market. Through this association we would like to build strong long term bonds with the extremely cricket crazy & motivated people of Punjab.”

    Incidentally, Videocon Group the parent company of Videocon d2h, has been in the news to buy the team. Videocon had also for the Pune franchise of the IPL but the bidding process was re-conducted, thereby putting paid to its strategy of having an IPL franchise.

    Furthermore, the franchise has roped in US Polo Association, ACC cement, Valvoline Cummins, Prayag, McDowell‘s No 1 and Kingfisher Premium as official team partner.

    Other partners include Luz Cozi as official comfort partner, OCM Suitings as official suiting partner, Godrej Eon as official home appliances partner, Coca-Cola as official beverage partner, Max Healthcare as official medical partner, Big 92.7 FM as radio partner, Punjab Kesari as print partner, and Book My Show as ticketing partner.

    The company had recently signed-on Miroma Sport as official licensing and merchandising partner in a six-year deal worth $50 million.
