    Shilpa Shetty Kundra launches her own VFX studio – SVS Studio

    Mumbai: Actor Shilpa Shetty has teamed up with VFX industry veteran Sandeep Mane to launch VFX company SVS Studio Pvt Ltd. Mane will lead the company as managing director.

    With a career spanning 15 years in the field of VFX, Sandeep Mane brings a vast amount of experience along with a very talented senior team under his umbrella. He has worked on blockbuster films such as “Baahubali 2,” “Bajirao Mastani,” “Padmaavat,” “Simmba,” “Dangal,” “Housefull 3,” “Golmaal Again” and many more. Before joining SVS, Mane has worked for companies such as Prime Focus, NY Vfxwaala, and Anibrain.

    “I am excited to venture into the VFX industry, being a part of the film industry, I understand the importance of good VFX. It can make or break a movie,” said founder-chairman Shilpa Shetty Kundra. “Our focus is on providing production houses in India and across the globe with world-class quality VFX.”

    SVS Studio is located in the heart of the film industry in Andheri West, Mumbai India.

    “The AVGC industry is booming. We plan to create more employment, train and develop skills and invest in new-age technology to stay ahead of the ever-evolving VFX industry providing production houses with end-to-end solutions,” said Sandeep Mane.

    Netflix to acquire virtual production studio Scanline VFX

    Mumbai: Netflix has announced its plans to acquire virtual production studio Scanline VFX. The company is responsible for the visual effects in Netflix series like “Cowboy Bebop,” “Stranger Things,” and “Blood Red Sky.”

    The company expects to complete the acquisition by the end of first quarter 2022 subject to regulatory approvals. 

    Founded in 1989, Scanline is led by Stephan Trojansky, a VFX supervisor whose proprietary fluid rendering system ‘Flowline’ won an Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 2008. The company has offices in Vancouver, Montreal, Los Angeles, London, Munich, Stuttgart, and Seoul.

    The company is working on VFX effects for upcoming Netflix content including “Don’t Look Up,” “The Gray Man,” “Slumberland,” “The Adam Project,” and “Stranger Things 4.”

    “Netflix will invest in Scanline’s pipeline, infrastructure and workforce and continue to support the pioneering work that Scanline’s Eyeline Studios is doing in virtual production to push the boundaries of what is visibly possible,” said Netflix vice president of studio operations Amy Reinhard.

    Apart from Netflix content, Scanline has done ground-breaking work on series like “Game of Thrones” to films like “Godzilla vs Kong” and “Zack Snyder’s Justice League.” “Going forward, the company will continue to operate as a standalone business and work with their variety of clients,” said Reinhard.

    Netflix will continue to rely on other VFX studios around the world “to ensure that our creators have access to the world’s most innovative tech,” said Reinhard.

    YRF launches in-house VFX studio; Pankaj Khandpur named creative director

    MUMBAI: YRF Studios has launched its independent visual effects (VFX) division called yFX.

    yFX has roped in Pankaj Khandpur as creative director. Khandpur was previously with VFX company Tata Elxsi – Visual Computing Labs as creative director.

    The first film under the yFX division will be Yash Raj Films’ Salman Khan – Anushka Sharma starrer Sultan.

    YRF Studios vice president and Yash Raj Films finance and business affairs Akshaye Widhani said, “The Indian film industry is pushing the envelope with every film and visual effects will play a bigger part than ever before in Indian cinema. Like Hollywood films, Indian films too will become an event by itself, which means more effects and larger than life imagery. This state of the art facility will be housed in YRF Studios making YRF a fully integrated studio in every sense of the word.”

    Khandpur added, “With yFX, the Indian visual effects industry finally comes of age! Visual effects will now be treated on par with all the other critical departments in filmmaking, contributing to the process from day one: from the ideation of the script itself, all the way through to final world-class execution, thanks to our experienced, skilled and passionate team of designers, supervisors and artists.

    Excel Home Entertainment to launch ‘Life of Pi’ on 3D Blu-Ray & DVD

    MUMBAI: Home entertainment company Excel Home Entertainment will soon launch the Oscar winning "Life of Pi" on DVD, Blu-Ray and 3D in India.

    The movie is an adventure drama film based on Yann Martel‘s novel of the same name; directed by Oscar winning Director Ang Lee starring Irfan Khan, Tabu and debutant Suraj Sharma in the lead role. The movie has won four Academy awards in the categories best director, best cinematography, best visual effects and best original score.

    Excel Home Entertainment MD Muslim Kapasi said, "Other than a great plot, the movie has some outstanding performances. The fact that the movie has an Indian connect with an international touch makes it a huge hit among the Indian audience. Ang Lee‘s cinematic brilliance – Life of Pi has many Indians longing for a copy of the DVD and Blu-Ray. We are also offering the 3D version of the Blu-Ray.   • Eggfirst wins Maya Digital’s creative biz

    MUMBAI: Mumbai-based advertising agency Eggfirst has been awarded Maya Digital‘s In-Studio (MIST) training programme creative mandate.

    The campaign is scheduled to launch in a few weeks from now with a media mix that predominantly involves print and radio.

    Maya Digital is an animation and VFX studio in India. The mandate requires the agency to drive the training programme‘s creative campaign.

    According to a joint press statement from the brand and agency, Eggfirst‘s bull‘s-eye strategic solution clinched it for them. Eggfirst identified MIST‘s in-studio training that allows students to learn on the job, as a key selling point, converting it into the core communication strategy.

    MIST studio ops head Aruna Kumar said, “There are several animation training institutes out there with good credentials and reputation. But what differentiates MIST is the opportunity to work on live projects of Maya Digital Studio. That‘s what gets students a true beginning into careers on live real work.
