  • Nat Geo Digital Media appoints content operations V-P

    MUMBAI: Betsy Scolnik has joined National Geographic Digital Media as vice president of content operations. She reports to Digital Media President Chris McAndrews.
     
     

    “The VP content operations role is designed to help Digital Media achieve success in emerging, fast-growth media markets through the effective and efficient utilization of National Geographic content,” said McAndrews. “Betsy will take a leadership position in content development efforts for the Nationalgeographic.com Web site and in Digital Media’s initiatives in the wireless, video game, broadband and education markets.”
     
     

    Prior to joining National Geographic, Scolnik worked at AOL for four years. From 2003 she served as vice president and general manager entertainment for AOL Europe based at AOL’s U.S. and European operations in Dulles, Va., and London, England. Most recently, she was a key player in the development and execution of AOL’s highly successful “Live 8” series of concerts.

    Previously, Scolnik worked for StarMedia network, then the largest Spanish- and Portuguese-language Internet media company, where she ran business development and programming for the StarMedia services across South America and Europe.

  • Zee’s Mohan Kapoor joins Sahara as V-P corporate

    MUMBAI: Zee Telefilms vice-president in-house programming Mohan Kapoor has quit. Kapoor has joined Sahara India Media Entertainment as vice-president Corporate Affairs.

    In his new role, Kapoor will be assisting Sahara India Media Entertainment MD Shailendra Singh for all the group initiatives. “I will be facilitating Singh’s ideas and helping him in the areas of idea generation, processing and execution,” says Kapoor.
     
    At Zee , Kapoor’s responsibility was mainly to design software for on-ground activities. The key projects he was associated with at Zee included the Zee Cine Awards 2004 and 2005.

    Speaking on his move from Zee to Sahara, Kapoor offers, “This is basically a move for better prospects. At Zee, all the senior positions are filled and in fact I wanted to handle more responsibilities. At Sahara, I will be playing a bigger role since Sahara has major plans in the movie and event segments.”
     
     

    Before jumping onto the corporate bandwagon, Kapoor had been pursuing a career in acting. He has acted in serials Kaahin Kissii Roz and Kittie Party. Kapoor’s significant break in television was with a game show called Saap Seedi.

    MUMBAI: Indiantelevision.com continues to gather accolades. At the 3rd Indira Awards for Marketing Excellence, which were presented at a glittering ceremony in Pune on Sunday, India’s premiere television services portal was feted for Excellence in Brand Building.

    The Indira Awards for Marketing Excellence aim to award and applaud some of the best marketing and advertising talent in the country and is in its third year. It has been instituted by ‘A’ List business school – the Indira Group of Institutes, Pune. Along with Indiantelevision.com founder and CEO Anil Wanvari, five others received Excellence in Brand Building awards for 2003.

    They were Bhaskar Parikh, V-P, Zandu Pharmaceuticals Work Ltd, KC Mehra, MD, Forbes Gokak Ltd., Adarsh Gupta, executive director, Liberty Shoes Ltd., S K Jhunjhunwala, MD, La Opala Glass Ltd. and Satish Kumar, CEO, Henkel (FA).

    Among the other awards that were handed out on the night included Excellence in Social Marketing, Highly recalled Brand Award, CEO of the Year, Brand Leadership and Innovative Marketing Professional Of the Year. There was a News Channel of the Year award as well that was received on behalf of G Krishnan, Aaj Tak CEO.

    There were some big names in advertising present as well. The Outstanding Contribution to the Advertising Industry award went to Ravi Deshpande, president, Lemon Communications Pvt Ltd, the Award for Social Marketing and Awareness to YK Sapru, founder, Cancer Patients Aids Association, Lifetime Achievement Award to Alyque Padamsee, CEO, AP Associates, and the Creative Professional of the Year to Prasoon Joshi, national creative director, McCann – Erickson (India) Ltd.

    Nirvik Singh, CEO, Grey Worldwide won for Outstanding Professional of the Year while Arun Kumar, GM – Marketing Kurlon received the Excellence in Brand Building award.

  • Koshy joins ESS as associate director ad sales

    MUMBAI: There is a new hiring in ad sales at ESPN Star Sports.
    Vijay Koshy officially joins duty on Monday as associate director, heading sales in the west and south.
    Koshy was formerly an assistant V-P with Star India, heading ad sales for Channel [V] in the western region. Under former head of ad sales Raj Nayak, Koshy also used to head the CRM (customer relationship management) division which was formed to act as a support service to separate functions.
    Prior to his stint at Star, Koshy used to work with several ad agencies including Lintas (now Lowe).
