    UTV releasing Paan Singh Tomar on 2 March

    MUMBAI: UTV is readying to release Tigmanshu Dulia’s Paan Singh Tomar on 2 March. The film has been lying in the cans for two years.

    Starring Irrfan Khan and Mahie Gill, the film is based on the life of athlete Paan Singh, a subedar in the army who turns a dacoit. Khan plays the dacoit while Gill plays his wife.

    It is said that Dhulia researched on the subject for two years before he visited Singh’s village in Bhind while Khan trained rigorously with steeplechase coaches.

    Shot on actual locations in Chambal and Roorkee, the film has been produced by UTV Motion Pictures.

    Incidentally, the film premiered at the British Film Institute London Festival in 2010.

    UTV denies buying rights of Dabaang 2

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has rubbished rumours going around in trade circles about it purchasing the rights of the sequel to Salman Khan-Sonakshi Sinha starrer Dabangg 2.

    Refuting all talk that the production house has picked up the rights of the Salman Khan film for Rs 1.40 billion including the print and advertising costs, UTV Motion Pictures has denied it totally and issued a statement.

    “There have been irresponsible reports in certain sections of the media that UTV has bought the rights for Dabangg 2 for Rs 1.40 billion, despite us clearly denying this. We would like to clarify that UTV has not purchased the rights of the movie in question. We have been very open about announcing our new projects and communicated them to the media and will continue to do so. We hope this puts all speculations to rest, ” reads an official statement from UTV Motion Pictures.

    The 2010 action film was directed by Abhinav Kashyap and produced by Arbaaz under the Arbaaz Khan Productions.

    To be directed by producer Arbaaz Khan himself, Dabaang-2 would see the appearance of our ex-cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in a guest role. Ganguly will reprise the character of a player and the proposed name of the character that he would be playing is called Daddu Singh.

    The sequel is expected to go on floors in March and the film has been scheduled to release during Christmas this year.

    UTV set to release Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu on 10 Feb

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures and Dharma Productions are all set to release their joint venture movie, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, on 10 February.

    The film, starring Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, is a light hearted, tragicomedy about a guy in his mid twenties, going through a breakdown in his personal as well as work life.

    Rahul Kapoor (Imran Khan), 26, loses his job as an architect in Vegas and by a twist of fate he meets Riana Braganza (Kareena Kapoor), a quick-witted hairstylist who is everything he isn‘t.

    Normally, stars promote their films in as many locations as possible before release, but Imran Khan is doing it with a twist. He has decided to bring along all his fans with him through the power of video and YouTube.

    The leading man will travel to Dubai, New York and the UK as well as 5 to 6 Indian cities after which he will document his journey and upload it on UTV’s and Dharma Productions‘ YouTube accounts to give his fans back home a taste of what it means to live life as a high-profile jet-setting Bollywood star.

    UTV to release Guzaarish in Latin America in Feb

    MUMBAI: Continuing its endeavour to open new international markets for Indian cinema, UTV Motion Pictures is all set to release Guzaarish in Peru (Latin America) in February.

    With this exercise, UTV Motion Pictures becomes one of the first studios in India to enter Latin America.

    Guzaarish continues to be a film widely picked up by non-traditional international markets, besides the traditional ones.

    Says UTV Motion Pictures senior vice president, International distribution and syndication Amrita Pandey, “Latin America as a new market is a focus for us. The Indian population is limited in Peru, which makes it even more significant an achievement to have managed a release for the film there.

    We‘re looking forward to the Guzaarish release in Peru. There have been enquiries on Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu from the region. We hope the Spanish trailers for Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu will pave the way for day-and-date release of new movies in the near future. We are also talking to a leading European distributor to have Guzaarish released in France. This will be a first-time ever Bollywood acquisition from France.”

    Directed by veteran director- producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali and co-produced by SLB Pictures and UTV Motion Pictures, Guzaarish, released on 19 November 2010, was appreciated by critics from across the world.

    In another first, UTV is also releasing the Spanish trailer of UTV Motion Pictures and Dharma Productions’ Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu across theatres in Peru. Directed by Shakun Batra, the film has Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. The film has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Karan Johar.

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has announced that their Anurag Basu-directed film Barfi! will release on 13 July.

    Barfi! is the story of a cute and shrewd young man whom the girls love while the cops hate him. He can’t speak but is always talked about. His naughty antics will make you scream but he will never listen because he is deaf. Barfi! is all set to usher the Chalu Chaplin of India.

    Barfi! stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileyana in the lead. The film music is composed by Pritam.

    UTV has a slate of films lined up this year that include Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, Barfi!, Rowdy Rathore, Heroine, Joker and many more.

    Tere Naal Pyar Ho Gaya is an endearing tale of how unusual circumstances bring people together and change their lives forever.

    Miny, a free-spirited tomboy, instantly wins your heart with her bubbly personality and charming giggles. She has what it takes to make her an extremely eligible bachelorette in the eyes of many local boys…a passport to Canada.
     
    Her father, Bhatti, runs an autorickshaw business and is hell-bent to marry her off to Sunny, a brash and aimless boy, whose sole purpose in life is to spend his wealthy father‘s money.

    But this couple is clearly a mismatch for Sunny does not have what it takes to win Miny‘s heart…ambition. Does Miny find someone else?

    Directed by Mandeep Kumar, the film has Ritesh Deshmukh and Genelia D‘ Souza who are coming together after seven years as lead pair.

    Media2win bags UTV Motion Pictures’ digital mandate

    MUMBAI: The full service agency Media2win has won the digital account of UTV Motion Pictures following multi agency pitch.

    Media2win will be responsible for handling the creative ideas, social media, digital media planning and buying, search, mobile and other innovative solutions for the film production house.

    UTV Motion Pictures Sr VP marketing Shikha Kapur said, “Going forward, we see the digital space as one of the most important mediums to market our movies. The interactivity that the digital medium offers is a superb opportunity for us to engage our audience right from the very beginning of a film campaign.”

    Further she added that Media2win impressed the company with their analytical approach to the business. “What clinched the deal for Media2win was that this analysis didn‘t compromise the creativity that our product requires, especially in the dynamic nature of the digital domain,” concluded Kapur.

    Media2win COO Namrata Balwani added, “The investment into movie marketing on the digital media has grown tremendously in India. The rise of social media and sharing oriented behaviour provides a great opportunity to think creatively.”

    UTV to release six films in 2012

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has released the slate of movies that it is to release in 2012.


    To start off, the company will release Ek Main Aur Ek Tu, its co-production with Dharma Productions on 10 February.


    The film being directed by Shakun Batra and starring Kareena Kapoor and Imraan Khan, is a light hearted, tragicomedy about a guy in his mid twenties going through a breakdown in his personal as well as work life. Rahul Kapoor loses his job as an architect in Vegas and by a twist of fate he meets Riana Braganza, a quick-witted hairstylist who is everything he isn‘t. Will this friendship with her turn to love?
     
    Following in May would be Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, a co-production of UTV Spotboy and Anurag Kashyap directed by Sameer Sharma. The film starring Kunal Kapoor and Huma Qureshi celebrates the lovable quirks of a Punjabi joint family with its inherent humour, drama, confusion, emotion, and the secret recipe for a famous chicken curry Chicken Khurana that forms the crux of the plot.


    Releasing on 15 June will be Rowdy Rathore, a joint venture of UTV Motion Pictures and SLB Productions. The film, directed by Prabhudeva, starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, is a remake of Vikramarkudu, the superhit Telugu film which was also remade in Tamil as Siruthai. The film will see Kumar returning to his original action avatar.


    Following in July is Barfii, a UTV Motion Pictures product, directed by Anurag Basu. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Ileyana.


    Then there is the Shirish Kunder-directed Joker 3D that releases on 30 August. The film, a co-production of UTV Motion Pictures, Three‘s Company and Hari Om Productions and Shirish Kunder, stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha. Akshay Kumar returns to his hometown, a place that‘s so remote and crazy that it‘s not even on the map. And then what follows puts this forgotten little town not just on the country‘s map, but makes it the focus of the entire globe! Aliens!


    And the last film on the slate is the Madhur Bhandarkar-directed Heroine. The film, a UTV Motion Pictures and Bhandarkar Entertainment product and starring Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, is based on the life and times of a superstar heroine from the dream factory we call ‘Bollywood‘. The film is an entertaining, daring, emotional, shocking, glamorous, scandalous behind the scenes account of the reality behind the world of glitz and glamour that our film stars inhabit.

    UTV signs Rajkumar Gupta and Emraan Hashmi for Ghanchakkar

    MUMBAI: Continuing its association with director Rajkumar Gupta, UTV Motion Pictures has signed the director to helm their forthcoming film Ghanchakkar while it has also signed Emraan Hashmi to play a stellar role in the film.

    UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said, “After two back-to-back hits Aamir and No One Killed Jessica, we are thrilled to announce our next film Ghanchakkar with Rajkumar Gupta. What makes this even more exciting is that we will be working with Emraan Hashmi for the first time in the film.”

    Hashmi plays the title character in Ghanchakkar, that of a suave safe-cracker who likes the finer things in life. He decides to pull off one last heist which leads to unexpected confusion and chaos. The question is does he get out of it without losing it and who is conning whom?
     
    This is Hashmi‘s first film with UTV Motion Pictures. Hashmi said, “It‘s great to be associated with UTV and Rajkumar Gupta. Ghanchakkar is one of the best scripts I‘ve heard in recent times. Commercial, edgy and very entertaining, I am sure this one‘s going to be a landmark film in my career.”

    Of his third film with UTV, director Gupta said, “Ghanchakkar is a quasi-realistic urban comedy/thriller highlighting the absurdity of certain real human situations. Very excited to have Emraan on board and glad to be taking forward my association with Ronnie and his amazing team at UTV after Aamir and No One Killed Jessica. We made the audience cry in Aamir and No One Killed Jessica and with Ghanchakkar we‘re going to make them laugh.”

    UTV Motion Pictures readies for release of Vettai

    MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures and Thirrupathi Brothers are readying to release their first co-production Vettai in January next year in time of Pongal, the harvest festival of South India.

    The film revolves around two brothers settled in Thoothukudi, with the elder one working as a police officer.

    While Madhavan plays Thiurmurthy the police officer, Arya plays his younger brother.

    A carefree Arya later takes on the action avatar as circumstances force him to do so. This makes for a racy entertainer.

    Sameera Reddy plays Madhavan‘s wife and Amala Paul as her sister with whom Arya falls in love with.

    The film has been directed by N Lingusamy, who is known to have consistently delivered super hits like Anandam, Run, Sandakozhi, Bheema and Paiyya.

    UTV, which is distributing, marketing and syndicating the film worldwide, has already commenced booking cinemas for the Pongal release.
