    Star India urges employees to contribute to Uttarakhand relief

    MUMBAI: After shooting exclusive promos with lead actors of its shows to promote the cause of providing relief to those affected by disaster in Uttarakhand and asking viewers to send in their donations, Star India has gone further and urged its employees to get philanthropic.

    Star India CEO Uday Shankar requests its employees to contribute a day’s salary for Uttarakhand relief fund

    According to sources, Star India CEO Uday Shankar sent an email (a copy of which is with indiantelevision.com) to Star India employees requesting them to contribute at least a day’s salary or more to the relief fund for the victims. In the email Shankar says that the company will match the contribution made by the employees and the sum collected will be used towards relief operations.

    “As responsible citizens and more importantly as employees of a company that has a deep connect with millions of Indians, Star extends the support in whatever way they can,” the Star India CEO says in the email. “Towards this, Star India is launching an effort to provide some solace to the thousands who have been affected by this disaster.”

    LIFF postponed following Uttarakhand human tragedy

    NEW DELHI: The 2nd Ladakh International Film Festival (LIFF) scheduled to be held nextmonth has been postponed due to the massive human tragedy in Uttarakhand caused by floods and landslide.

    LIFF Festival director Melwyn Chirayath told indiantelevision.com that the festival is now likely to be held in September.

    He said: “We stand in solidarity with the victims and their family in their period of grief and mourning. It seems grossly inappropriate to go ahead with LIFF under such tragic circumstances.”

    He noted that while Leh, which is also a part of the Himalayan region, had been largely unaffected by the inclement weather, the Festival was being postponed as a precautionary measure.

    “After consulting with the local government, we will announce the new dates of the festival. All other details of the festival remain the same,” he added.

    Earlier, it had been announced that a total of 115 films from fifteen countries will be screened at the Festival.

    The films will be screened in five screens in Leh, according to Chirayath who said the festival will be inaugurated by Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah and the awards on the closing day will be given away by Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari.

    The jury for LIFF 2013 will be headed by well known actor/director Aparna Sen while members are Paul Smaczny (Emmy winner), Mathew Robbins (Palm d‘Or), Vimukhti Jayasundara (Palm d‘Or), Alireza Shahrokhi (Iran) & Teri McLuhan (Canada).

    In addition, there will be a retrospective on lyricist-filmmaker Gulzaar by director/producer Vishal Bharadwaj who had got his first major break in the former‘s ‘Maachis‘.

    There is a section celebrating women through some of the finest women oriented films made in India.

    A major highlight is the green carpet premiere at LIFF 2013 of Teri Mc Luhan‘s documentary ‘Frontier Gandhi‘, on the forgotten freedom fighter, nationalist and peace advocate Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan. There will also be a special children‘s section curated by Amole Gupte, chairperson of the Children‘s Film Society, India, which will feature six children‘s films.

    Zee News wins the ECI National Media Award on Voters’ Education

    NEW DELHI: Zee News has won the National Media Award on Voter Education of the Election Commission of India for its outstanding campaign towards creating voters’ awareness in the Assembly elections (January-March) 2012, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

    The Hindi daily ‘Amar Ujala’ has also been selected for a Special Award for its remarkable contribution towards voter education and awareness in the aforementioned elections.

    This follows a decision taken by the Commission and announced during a Media Convention on 23 January 2012 that the Media House with the best campaign on Voter Education and Awareness would be awarded.

    The Award would be presented during the 3rd National Voters’ Day on 25 January 2013 at New Delhi.

    The Commission has now decided to constitute separate awards for electronic and print media for all the forthcoming elections.

    MUMBAI: Wave Cinemas, promoted by film distributor Ponty Chadha, has launched its first multiplex in Haridwar (Uttarakhand) at Pentagon Mall.

    Having three screens with a total capacity of 864 seats, the plex promises to provide exceptional digital film watching experience to cinegoers with high-end seats and a kids zone. Pricing is also economical with ticket prices ranging from Rs 100 (Monday-Thursday) to Rs 130 (Friday- Sunday).

    Commented manager of the multiplex Yogesh Raizada, “With this launch, Wave Cinemas now has seven multiplexes. The other six are based in Delhi, Ghaziabad , Noida, Lucknow, Moradabad and Ludhiana.”
