    Universal to release Jurrasic Park on 19 July 2013

    MUMBAI: A day after it was reported that Paramount has preponed the release date of the Tom Cruise starrer One Shot from February 2013 to Dec. 21,Universal studios has sprang a surprise when it announced that it was advancing the release of the 3D version of Steven Spielberg‘s 1993 adventure film Jurrasic Park from 19 July, 2013.

    The studio also announced that it would release the Tom Cruise starrer Oblivion from July 10, 2013, to April 26.

    Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) is directing Cruise in Oblivion, a fantasy about a former soldier who is the last person left on Earth after a war with an alien race. When he encounters a crashed spacecraft with a lone survivor, the two set off on an epic adventure.

    One Shot from February 2013 to Dec. 21was boarding the re-release bandwagon and release the 3-D version of Steven Spielberg‘s Jurassic Park on 19 July 19 roughly around the 20th anniversary of the film‘s original debut in theaters on 11 June 11, 1993.

    Universal in plans to celebrate centennial

    MUMBAI: As part of a year-long celebration of the studio‘s centennial,Universal Studios is redesigning both its audio visual and print logos that will be unveiled early in 2012.

    The 100th anniversary campaign will include restoration of some of the studio‘s classic movies, theme park activities and promotions, and engagement with fans through special events and social media initiatives.

    Universal Studios president Ron Meyer announced the broad plans for the centennial celebration in a memo that he sent to the studio‘s employees Tuesday.

    “This is a proud and exciting moment for our company, which celebrates the studio‘s rich history and cultural impact,” Meyer wrote.

    “Throughout Universal‘s hundred years, we‘ve created films that have touched the hearts of millions, and fostered our culture‘s love affair with cinema. Some films have been more successful than others, but all of them have a place in our history.

    The strength of Universal, as with any company, is the talent of its team. We‘re fortunate to have an incredible group of individuals as well as gifted filmmakers who are at the heart of this studio,” he added.

    In 2012, Universal Studios will be honoring its past and celebrating the future.

    Amrita TV launches travelogue

    MUMBAI: Amrita Television, the 24 hour satellite channel announced the launch of its international travel show called “Sundara Bhoomi” (Beautiful Earth)

    Each episode will be anchored by a person who lives in the location .The idea is to provide the viewers with a familiar face ad at the same time a local guide to the locations featured. Anchors on the show include American actress Ashley Richardson, Australian host Kane Robinson and South Indian film star Divya Unni who now resides in the US.

    The show travels to various locations like Universal Studios, Niagara Falls, Swiss Alps, Tokyo, America’s Wild West, Australia and France.

    The show is jointly produced by an international crew from USA, Japan, France and India and will air from 4 February every Sunday at 12 pm as a 30-minute travelogue.

    Amrita TV has a global footprint covering Australia, Middle East, USA, Canada and parts of South Africa and now in UK and Europe. The show addresses both domestic and South Indian immigrant audiences abroad.

    Universal Studios creates mobile division

    MUMBAI: Universal Studios has announced that its consumer products group has created a dedicated division designed to capitalise on the rapidly growing world of mobile entertainment.

    The new division, Universal Mobile Entertainment, will be run from a day to day perspective by Universal veteran Jeremy Laws who has been promoted to senior vice president.

    Under the newly minted division, Laws will oversee all aspects of licensing and promotions in the wireless arena as well as actively pursue and manage licenses from creation to consumption. He will lead a team of sales executives based around the world including the major media markets like Los Angeles, London and Tokyo.

    Laws says, “My goal, and that of my team, will be to ensure that fans of Universal’s films and television programmes will have easy access to a broad range of compelling, high quality
    mobile content on their handsets.”

    Universal Studios adds that it has been aggressive in the mobile content licensing market since 2000 and currently has more than 60 deals worldwide with premiere partners such as I-play, Gameloft, Buongiorno-Vitaminic, Ojom, Indiagames, Player X, (M)Forma and Starwave Mobile.

    Universal expects to see continued, substantial revenue growth in this space during 2006 as it launches 30 games and a comprehensive range of graphics, video clips and voice ringers on all major carriers across the globe from Universal’s
    current and library film and television assets.

    Laws joined Universal Studios Consumer Products Group as executive director in 1999. He has since spearheaded all aspects of licensing in the areas of wireless, broadcast film clips, stills and advertising and has overseen all aspects of Universal’s licensed location-based entertainment attractions worldwide. Laws pioneered an end-to-end online solution for film clip licensing and tripled the revenue of that business.
