    Sun TV to air Nandini on four GEC channels

    MUMBAI: Sun TV Network is set to launch its magnum opus fiction Nandini on all its four south Indian GEC channels, namely — Sun TV, Gemini TV, Udaya TV and Surya TV from 23 January.

    The show is scheduled from Monday – Friday at 8.30 pm time band for Udaya TV while the similar show will be aired at 9pm time slot from Monday to Saturday on Sun TV. On Gemini TV it will aired from Monday to Saturday at 9pm and Monday to Friday on Surya TV.

    Produced and presented by the acclaimed Tamil film director Sundar. C Nandini is a supernatural fiction series.

    Nandini boasts of high end graphics and big scale production values that is sure to provide the viewers a wholesome entertainment.

    The story narrates the life of a family whose life is intertwined by supernatural species.

    The star cast includes Vijayakumar, Nithya Ram, Malavika, Ramesh Pandit, Gayathri Jayaram, Narasinha Raju to name a few.

    BENGALURU: Sun TV Network Limited (Sun TV) announced that it is launching two new shows starting from 20 and 21 March 2016. Super Challenge and Punch Kajjaya will be aired on Udaya TV, the Kannada channel of Sun TV Network. Sun TV Network says that it presents these distinct shows for their its to wrap up the day and their weekend with loads of fun and light moments of life.      

    Super Challenge is a one hour fun filled show will have 10 new celebrities from film and TV industry in every episode. It is a feel good, high decibel, mass market show which the network claims will appeal to entire family and also motivate them to play similar games at home and elsewhere says Sun TV. Super Challenge will be aired every Sunday between 9 and 10 pm.

    Sun TV Network Non-fiction head Aldam Jacob said, “We wanted to offer some uninhibited fun to our audience and stay away from the existing game and reality shows format which makes the participants go through grotesque moments in the name of talent hunts or prize money. Super Challenge revives playtime filled with joyful moments without any hidden agendas or greed. The show revives family bonding time through games and endorses the adage that the family that plays together, stays together.”

    Punch Kajjaya, is a full-fledged comedy genre show where every episode has a new story and a new concept. As a very light hearted refreshing content to wind up the day, it will be aired daily during the week on the 10-1030 pm slot. The story revolves around five characters of a family. A funny and ever romantic dad, stubborn mom, wanna-be scientist son and his beauty parlour owner wife and a Facebook addict daughter of the house all creating moments of hilarity and chaotic fun every day.

    Udaya TV head of programming Sudheendra said, “Punch Kajjaya is a clean comedy intended to make the audience end their day with a smile on their faces. All characters in this show are very relatable. Every day the show will pick up a contemporary issue and dissect it with a comical touch. The show has a nice blend of veterans and new comers in the casting and has all the potential to be a complete family entertainer, where everybody has something to cheer about.”

    MUMBAI: Yupp TV, the Over-The-Top (OTT) platform has recently announced a strategic alliance with Sun Network. With the alliance, YuppTV will launch 10 channels in four regional languages namely Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

     
    The OTT platform will make channels like Surya and Kiran in Malayalam, Sun TV, KTV, Sun Music, Tamil channel Adithya TV, Gemini TV, Gemini Movies & Gemini Comedy in Telugu and Kannada channel Udaya TV for its MENA viewers.

     
    The move will add more content to YuppTV’ s entertainment platter that boasts of over 25,000 hours of video content in its catalogue.

    BARC Week 3: Bhojpuri Cinema claims lead in Bhojpuri GEC genre

    MUMBAI: The third week of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) all India data witnessed Bhojpuri Cinema claiming its leadership position back from Big Magic Ganga, which was the leader in the Bhojpuri GEC genre in week 2. 

     

    On the other hand, other regional channel leaders continued to dominate their respective genres.

     

    Bangala GECs
     

    Star Jalsha remained in the first position with 245951 (‘000s) followed by Zee Bangla in the second place with 147074 (‘000s). Jalsha Movies stayed on the third pole with 66295 (‘000s). Zee Bangla Cinema with 41069 (‘000s) and Colors Bangla with 33826 (‘000s) stood at the fourth and fifth position respectively. 

     

    Bhojpuri GECs

     

    In this week’s data, Bhojpuri Cinema emerged as the number one channel with 20844 (‘000s) followed in the second rung by Big Magic Ganga with 10430 (‘000s), which was in the first slot last week, Dabangg retained its third position with 9327 (‘000s), while Dangal TV with 6703 (‘000s) grabbed the fourth spot. ETV Bihar Jharkhand with 3565 (‘000s) stood in the fifth slot.

     

    Kannada GECs

     

    Colors Kannada retained its leadership position with 298660 (‘000s). Udaya Movies stood at the number two position with 151706 (‘000s) followed by Suvarna with 150918 (‘000s) in third place. While Udaya TV stood in the fourth position with 141511 (‘000s), while Zee Kannada bagged the fifth spot with 137970 (‘000s).

     

    Marathi GECs

     

    In week 3, Zee Marathi maintained its top position with 177406 (‘000s). Colors Marathi grabbed the second slot with 95476 (‘000s) and Zee Talkies stood at number three with 59153 (‘000s). Star Pravah garnered the fourth slot with 45468 (‘000s) and Maiboli was at number five with 22994 (‘000s).

     

    Malayalam GECs

     

    Asianet secured the leadership position in the genre with 375213 (‘000s) followed by Mazhavil Manorama in the second spot with 98950 (‘000s). Following it was Flowers TV with 76016 (‘000s) in the third rung. Asianet Movies came in fourth with 59365 (‘000s), whereas Surya TV with 52931 (‘000s) stood on the fifth berth.

     

    Oriya GECs

     

    Sarthak TV secured the leadership position in the genre with 106117 (‘000s) followed by Tarang TV in the second spot with 53934 (‘000s), while Colors Oriya came third with 20239 (‘000s). Odisha TV bagged the fourth spot with 13923 (‘000s) and Prameya News 7 with 9129 (‘000s) took the fifth berth.

     

    Tamil GECs

    Sun TV retained its leadership position with 969791 (‘000s), while KTV followed in the second position with 282331 (‘000s). Star Vijay stood third with 210192 (‘000s), whereas Polimer with 97732 (‘000s) was in the fourth position. Kalaignar TV bagged the fifth spot with 83628 (‘000s).

     

    Telugu GECs

     

    ETV Telugu emerged as the number one channel in the Telugu GEC genre and grabbed number one position with 400566 (‘000s) followed by Zee Telugu in second place with 388443 (‘000s) and Gemini TV in the third spot with 365872 (‘000s). Maa TV with 352350 (‘000s) bagged the fourth place, while Gemini Movies with 194995 (‘000s) stood at number five.

    Regional TAM: Maa TV sees 65% growth in viewership

    MUMBAI: In the south general entertainment channel (GEC) space, the Malayalam GEC genre has seen a growing trend. The genre rose by nine per cent recording 1,829 GRPs, up from 1,682 GRPs that it had registered in week 29.

     

    In the Malayalam GEC space during week 30 of TAM TV ratings, Asianet garnered a 13 per cent rise in its viewership registering 1,020 GRPs up from 901 GRPs. Surya captured the second position with a seven per cent rise in viewership with 272 GRPs up from 255 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama slipped to third position from its second position last week with 268 GRPs, up from 257 GRPs. 

     

    In the Tamil GEC category, Sun TV registered 1,202 GRPs up from 1,178 GRPs. Vijay TV at the second spot garnered 376 GRPs down from 395 GRPs, whereas Z Tamil at number three managed 129 GRPs. 

     

    Maa TV has been on a growth path, witnessing a gain of 65 per cent in its viewership level in the Telugu GEC genre. The channel marked 599 GRPs, up from 363 GRPs. Z Telugu stood at number two with 565 GRPs, up from 555 GRPs, followed by Gemini, which scored 495 GRPs down from 551 GRPs. 

     

    In the Kannada GEC genre, Udaya TV witnessed a fall of 15 per cent in viewership and scored 410 GRPs down from 482 GRPs. On the other hand, Colors Kannada at number two reported 403 GRPs, up from 402 GRPs. Suvarna stood at number three with 280 GRPs up from 256 GRPs.

    MUMBAI: In the south general entertainment channel (GEC) space, it was the Malayalam GEC genre that saw maximum growth. The genre rose by seven per cent recording 1,682 GRPs, up from 1,568 GRPs that it had registered in week 28.

     

    In week 29 of TAM TV ratings, Asianet garnered around four per cent of its viewership levels registering 901 GRPs, up from 866 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama captured the second position with 257 GRPs, down from 259 GRPs. While, Surya TV garnered 29 per cent of growth recording 255 GRPs, up from 198 GRPs.

     

    To achieve its average threshold level in week 29, Tamil GEC genre observed the second slot in the category. Despite shedding numbers, Sun TV continued to dominate the chart with 1178 GRPs, down from 1201 GRPs. Sun TV’s fall was Vijay TV and Z Tamil’s gain. The channels notes 395 GRPs, up from 341 GRPs and 129 GRPs, up from 125 GRPs at number two and third respectively.

     

    Z Telugu has been on a growing trend and witnessed a rise of eight per cent in viewership levels with a leading position in the Telugu GEC genre. The channel marked 555 GRPs, up from 512 GRPs. Gemini garnered second position from its third spot last week with a rise of 13 per cent in viewership levels. It scored 551 GRPs, up from 489 GRPs followed by ETV with 426 GRPs, up from 402 GRPs at number three.

     

    Kannada GEC genre stood at the bottom most position with 1,441 GRPs, down from 1,445 GRPs. Udaya TV witnessed a minimal rise in viewership and scored 482 GRPs, up from 471 GRPs. On the other hand, Colors Kannada at number two reported 402 GRPs, down from 421 GRPs. Suvarna stood at number three with 256 GRPs, up from 253 GRPs.

    TAM: Kannada GECs sole regional genre to witness rise

    MUMBAI: In week 28 of TAM TV ratings, Kannada was the only general entertainment channel (GEC) genre to witness a six per cent growth in viewership levels compared to last week. 

     

    Udaya TV garnered a rise of 12 per cent with 471 GRPs, up from 421 GRPs. Colors Kannada at number two, observed a growth by five per cent in viewership levels with 421 GRPs, up from 399 GRPs. Suvarna TV maintained its third slot with 253 GRPs, down from 248 GRPs.

     

    All other GECs witnessed a drop in viewership levels. 

     

    Despite shedding numbers and witnessing a six per cent drop in the viewership, Sun TV from the Tamil genre was the top contributor with 1201 GRPs, down from 1277 GRPs. Vijay TV noted a drop of seven per cent drop and registered 341 GRPs, down from 366 GRPs. Z Tamil stood at number three with 125 GRPs, down from 128 GRPs. 

      
    Overall, the Malayalam GEC genre witnessed a drop of five per cent in viewership levels in this week. Asianet was the most affected channel with seven per cent drop in viewership levels. It reported 866 GRPs, down from 928 GRPs. Mazhavil Manorama at number two recorded 259 GRPs, down from 266 GRPs. Lastly, Survya TV observed 198 GRPs, down from 205 GRPs at number three.

     

    The Telugu GEC genre witnessed a drop of four per cent in viewership levels in week 28. Z Telugu witnessed a growth of four per cent in viewership levels and garnered leading position among the Telugu GEC genre. It noted 512 GRPs, up from 493 GRPs. Maa TV secured the second position with a drop of three per cent in viewership levels and registered 494 GRPs, down from 508 GRPs. Gemini dropped to the third spot from its leading position with a seven per cent fall in the viewership and recorded 486 GRPs, down from 521 GRPs.
